This year was different, and I needed a room for New Years Eve and booked at Oranje. Checking into the hotel was easy and I was offered an Ollie Bollen (Dutch Donut), before heading up to my room. They won me over by giving me deep fried dough, but then the room it self was actually quite nice as well. I had an upgraded room with a balcony which was great for viewing the last of the fireworks when I made it back to the hotel. It was a great room, with friendly staff at an affordable price. I would definitely stay here again.

Our room was up two flights of stairs, but that seems typical for European hotels. Separate shower and toilet, but there is a sink in the room. There was breakfast provided, which included fruit and hard boiled eggs, in addition to the typical assortment of cheese, bread and meat. There is a nice bar in the lobby, which is the perfect place for a drink after exploring the town. I would recommend staying here if you need a room in Leuwarden!

Alas, you are in Friesland, a place renowned for its natural beauty, clean streets and authentically quaint Frisian lifestyle. I found myself jogging in the area till late hours and feeling very safe. At a certain hour (12-1am) there is nothing going on. However, it's a great place to stay if you are visiting a friend in Friesland.
