I'm pathetic and usually end up either breaking something or slamming more beers than holes I finish out of frustration. When my buddy had his bachelor party here though, I just had to suck it up and hit the links. As much as I hate this game I've gotta give credit to the best place I've ever played at. Pole Creek has three courses all surrounded by Rocky Mountain beauty so even if you're as terrible as I am, the natural surroundings will provide you with a sense of serenity so you don't drive your cart into a water hazard. Outside of the immaculate fairways and greens the staff is incredibly nice. On several occasions a marshal came by to either offer advice or help find a lost ball. (which there was a record number of) He even took a couple of pictures for us which was by far the best shot I was a part of in the round. They rent some really nice Titleist clubs for only about $30 and beers and food are pretty affordable compared to other courses I've ever played. Overall Pole Creek is worth the price of admission just based on the scenery alone. If you're actually a good golfer, I bet you'll love it too.

I was part of a group of 16 golfers (ages 65 to 81) that came from Denver to play Pole Creek on…read moreJuly 28th & 30th. We played other course in the area and has no issue driving on the fairways (except for the Par 3 hokes). However Polecreek is "Cart Path Only". The group also consisted of 3 disabled US Veterans. On the 28th the check-in desk was very cordial. They allowed the 3 disabled Veterans to acquire "Handicap" flags and carts that allowed them to drive at 90 degrees from the cart path onto the fairways to line up and hit their shots then return to the cart path. However, on the 30th the staff and rules changed. Not for the good The staff was disrespectful and had no time to answer questions. When the 3 disabled Veterans tried to get "Handicap" accommodations they were denied. They were told that only golfers with the blue card that hung from their visors. All these Veterans suffered disabilities from their service in Viet Nam. They were asked what their disabilities were. They explained their license plates bore the "Disabled Veteran" and therefore they didn't need the handicap blue card. How does the service by these Veterans and their disabilities get such little respect? Pole Creek needs to do better!

The best ride ever! The actual trail names are Colorado River Trail, The Maze and Janice's Jaunt, all rolled into a great trail system. Word of caution, this is an expert mountain bike trail, but a great all-around hiking trail. The trailhead is just east of the Golf Course and sports the cleanest port-a-potty on the planet. It's so clean, bugs don't want to ruin it. The trail takes you through different wetlands, over two bridges, vistas, rock gardens and a single track with grass so tall, you'll feel like you're in a corn maze, with the sweet sound of a brook to guide you. The trail is well marked, numerous benches are strategically placed and when you come around one corner, the sigh reads "Shhh, Golfers." Then you pop out for a moment to see the stunning view of Grand Lake's Golf Course right before you rip down a rocky section and catch your pedal on a short stubby stump. Did I mention, best ride ever?

The rental process was very simple and they sent us out with the map and a few recommendations. We absolutely loved the 2.5 mile loop trail at the beginning (going clockwise around the loop), but about 1/5th of the way around the loop, the trail and sine age completely disappeared. We did follow snowshoe trails that (we ended up learning) were developed by people who just made their own trail. It was impossible to know which way to go, and crazy enough, we had four bars of service with AT&T while on the mountain, so we called back to the Nordic Center for help, and they recommended we head back towards the Nordic Center the way we came, so we did. It was a little disappointing since we never made it out to the river or to see the bridge, but you can only be disappointed for so long when you're surrounded with such beauty.

We had about 24 golfers out on the course and a bunch more meet us at the clubhouse for lunch after, and from start to finish the staff was prompt, polite, and somehow on top of every single thing. We coordinated everything with Aaron Tulley, who was a total pro. He set us up with longest drive and closest to the pin contests while we were out there, which turned a fun round into a genuinely competitive (loving, mostly) family showdown. Aaron stayed ahead of every detail so we never had to think about logistics, which is exactly what you want a few days before getting married. Then there is the food. The kitchen has been newly redone and it shows, because lunch was incredible, and at a price that made us double-check the bill in a good way. And the views. My God, the views. Getting our flat-as-a-pancake Midwest family out onto a mountain course like this was an absolute top-tier experience. Everyone was smiling the entire time, including the people who had never broken 100 in their lives. Special shoutout to the starter, who got our entire group off the first tee with grace and good humor while we were, let us be honest, deeply hungover and schlepping around pre-round like a herd of confused deer. That is customer service. If you are looking for a stunning, welcoming, well-run course in Estes Park, this is the one. Five stars and a longest drive trophy to the whole staff.

Took level 1 development course with CMS for rock climbing. My guide was Jason Antin, absolutely…read moreamazing experience. The program is well structured and professionally run. Communication was fast and i had zero issues with anything in the program. Jason is absolutely incredible, Humongous knowledge base but beyond that he has a massive amount of experience and is an incredible teacher. Very detail and safety oriented. I did my first 2 multi pitch climbs with him and felt extremely prepared before setting off on the climbs. Jason kept me safe the whole way and coached and thought throughout. I am taking level 2 with them in a couple of days and have no doubt that will be a 10 start experience. My skill level and knowledge base has increased exponentially. I can't recommend CMS and Jason Antin highly enough. If you have an interest in anything outdoor do yourself a favor and take a course with CMS. The best experience hiring a guide i have ever had.

This was a surprisingly decent hostel, and one of the only affordable places I found in Estes park…read morein September! I was able to book a bed in a co-ed shared dorm for like $80 that night and it was pretty decent. They have a nice big parking lot and when I arrived one of the staff came from a nearby cabin and helped me move my bags inside. They have clear instructions about everything inside, it was a smooth check in and checkout. I would def stay again - it was perfect as a single night after a long day of hiking in the national park, and an early morning again hiking in the national park the next day. Decently clean too, and very homely :)
