What a great place to get your farm fresh products -- meat, dairy, bread and pastries, etc... The owners of the farm are very responsive both in person and via email. Have been coming here on weekends for about 4 years to purchase boxes of meat, eggs, bread and other treats. I only wish I lived closer to be able to participate in their milk share, but I'm too far away to be coming to pick up milk every week or every other week. I also love to walk around the visit the animals when I come to get my supplies to cover me for a couple of months. My favorites include all types of beef, pork products and sausage. We've ordered and gotten Thanksgiving Turkey's here and they were delicious. I've learned to always put my trust in local farms and farmers. Plus you are supporting the local Virginia farming industry and that is a good thing. Give this place a try, you won't regret it. Its more expensive than going to the local grocery store, but the quality of their meats is fantastic. Its the way meat should be and is worth every dollar! read more

Best beef, pork, lamb and chicken products we have ever purchased! We stopped buying meat products from the grocery stores after we found this farm. The owners are very welcomy and very knowledgeable in regards to their products. We ended up buying a second fridge so that we could buy large quantities at a time so we save some $$. They do have few option of purchasing large quantities with a discounted price which is very convenient. Oh boy, but the taste of their products cannot be compared to anything you would find in any grocery store. Outstanding family run farm. The meat selection here is amazing. The grass fed beef and pasture raised pork and lamb are healthier and have way more flavor than anything you will get at the supermarket. They make killer sausages here as well. They also regularly have duck eggs that are worth a try. Farm store is open Saturday 10-5 and Sunday 11-5. It is a short drive to Old 690 brewery or Hillsborough Vineyards so you can do a beer or wine run to pair with the meats you buy. read more

We just recently moved to the Hillsboro area, and I love exploring the many farms in the area. Chicama Run is a great example of a family farm operation dedicated to providing healthy local meat and dairy options. The steaks are from pasture-fed cattle and they taste awesome. We grilled several for New Year's Eve dinner and everyone commented on the cut and flavor. We've also sampled the pork sausage--excellent--and the yogurt (good, but I prefer it thicker). The free range chickens provide tasty eggs with a nice dark yolk. Finally, I proudly presented my husband with my first attempt at BBQ spare ribs from the farm and he loved the taste and texture. I plan to purchase a cow share next month to enjoy access to the benefits of raw milk from one of the farm's four dairy cows. A visit to the farm/farm store means greeting all of the farm cats and goats and chickens, and I imagine that it would be a fun time for those with kids. I found the prices to be fair and the owners to be friendly and open and enthusiastic about their farm. We will be regulars for sure! read more

Fan-freaking-tastic. Just starting to realize the benefit of eating/buying locally, and opting for raw/grass-fed when possible. I enjoy my hair, teeth, skin and nails remaining perpetually in a "mid-twenties" state, thank you. Meat prices are doable, especially considering it's a "know your farmer" situation, and the livestock are treated well, fed well, and cared for in a manner such that nuturitional benefits are passed on to the consumer of the meat. Additionally, free-range eggs from chickens that are pastured are said to be much healthier and higher in nutrients and beneficial fat-soluable vitamins than regular "organic" "free-range" eggs from the grocery store. Bonus- I discovered recently Chicama Run offers group buys on the exceptional GreenPasture Fermented od-Liver/Butter Oil products. I know, I know, "Cod liver oil, wtf??" would be the automatic sentiment I'd expect from anyone under the age of 90, but seriously, do some research- the health benefits (to teeth and skin especially) are insane. They offer free butter and cheese-making classes sometimes, can't wait to check one out. SHHH! Don't tell anyone, but I heard you can engage in "rent-a-cow" activities here, wherein you purchase a "share" of a cow, and can pick up raw milk on a monthly basis. Considering the infamous regulations that have been placed on the sale/purchase/transport of raw dairy products by the federal Milk Gestapo, this could be a good option for those interesting in trying the whole-health benefits of raw milk. read more

This local farm is amazing! I've had eggs, steaks, and multiple types of bacon from their farm and absolutely loved the quality. It also made me feel great knowing that the meat came from a humane and family-owned farm. On top of that my mother and cousin have been multiple times and had some prepared foods that they said were divine! The menu gets changed frequently and I'm excited to return and try a meal of my own! In addition I've noticed that most or all of the farm's milk is claimed every week by customers putting it on hold for pick up, so there has got to be something about it. If I weren't lactose intolerant then I would definitely give it a whirl. read more

Eat local! Love this place. A true family owned and run farm. We have been doing the meat CSA for pork and beef for a few years now. While I am there I pick up tea, fresh eggs, local honey, and butter. Fresh and delicious you can absolutely taste the difference. My husband and I love buying our meat from Chicama Run. Just signed up for our third year in the meat csa and we are happy to drive once a month from Haymarket to pick it up. We couldn't be more pleased with the quality of meat and the friendly service. I always stock up on chickens and eggs when we go to pick up our csa because the quality just can't be found elsewhere in the area. Also, if they have bone-in pork chops you have to get them. Nothing can compare! In our last csa pickup we got an amazing bone-in ribeye and I actually remembered to take a picture of it. My only complaint would be that I always feel like the unpaved road is hell on my tires but I haven't actually had any issues with it. read more

We have visited the farm every weekend for 3+ years and absolutely love it. Joe and Dana are the best. We have a milk share and get amazing beef and pork products each week. Eggs, both chicken and duck, the blue ones are my favorite. Our thanksgiving turkey has come from the farm. We are able to get yummy bread and in the summer we pick up fresh produce. It's a good feeling to know the food we feed our family was humanely raised locally. I know I am getting quality, good tasting food from Chicama Run. We are regular customers now for the past couple years. For health reasons we wanted to start trying to eat better, fresher foods. Our family has enjoyed everything that we have purchased at Chicama Run. The fresh eggs are excellent and very noticeably different, better and bigger than anything you get in the grocery store. The steaks and meats are fabulous. We love the chuck roasts. The hamburger is great. If you have any doubts I recommend going and picking up a few items. Cook them up and notice the difference you see between cooking their food items and similar food items you buy at the grocery store. There really is no comparison. read more

This is one of the reasons I love living in Upper Loudoun County. There are many farms like this but this is one of the better ones. I found about them via the internet and FB and went down last weekend. The store is nicely laid out and the meat is all clearly available and packaged. They take credit cards! I bought some wonderful extra large fresh eggs, grass fed angus steak and hamburger meat (aka ground beef) as well as some venison jerky. All the meat was wonderful and priced right for what it is. They also have a large selection of bread on the weekends that they get from a bakery in Sterling. The place is very seasonal so expect chickens and turkeys and lamb when in season. They have a cow share program where you can pick up raw milk (must be a member of the program as it is illegal to sell raw milk in VA) and programs to purchase 1/4, 1/2, or whole steers. The owner was very nice and explained how things work and that all the animals except the steers are on the property. Huge but friendly white dog aptly named Monster wanders around outside looking for someone to pet him. Kids love coming out here and i will going back every weekend to get those eggs and some more meat! read more

Great family farm who really cares about their product as well as their customers. Have become a big fan of their steaks which while being a little more expensive than the grocery, tastes so great I need less to satisfy my need for beef. Flavor is king with their beef. It is also the only place I will purchase liver which I bring out of state for my parents as I know that nothing |"inappropriate" is fed to their animals. I also pick up at least one variety of sausage each trip as well. Always good to visit on a day they have the grill going as a cook to order burger or sausage makes a nice snack. Lastly, they bring in some great bread on weekends so that is a bonus. Follow them on facebook as the owners really put some interesting news in their postings each week. We've tried the high end butcher shop in Middleburg and the one in McLean. Wholefoods and Wegmans, although not as tasty as the high end butcher shops, they are still good, reasonably priced and convenient. However, none compares to the meat at Chicama.....so far. The quality/taste of the meat is a notch or two higher than the high end butcher shops but with Costco prices (when comparing the sirloin). The sirlion/delmonico steaks are incredible and the ground beef will make you a gourmet chef. The chili, hambugers, meatballs, etc. taste significantly better when cooked with their ground beef. You also got to try their thick-thick cut pork belly but you got to get their before we do because we always buyout their entire stock. Don't be turned off by their farm garage operation, it's all good. We've been eating their meat for a year and even ordered a 1/2 a cow. read more

Went in with some friends to purchase a whole hog. Specified the cuts we wanted via vendor-supplied forms and picked up the meat today. Very disappointed in the cut quality. Vendor made several mistakes from our order sheet and we did not get the two pork butts we wanted, instead (presumably) getting it in the many pounds of ground pork we did not want. Ordered two racks of baby backs and received cheater racks (9 bones) instead of properly cut racks (12-14 bones). Ham steaks are cut too large. Bellies are cut too small to make preparing a cure worth the effort. OTOH the pork chops are great. Still, 50 lbs of meat came out to $300, which is IMO not worth the trouble. Honestly, I feel like the vendor was happy to bilk the city folk. Very doubtful I'll buy from this vendor again, and even more doubtful that I'll recommend them. read more

2017 DISAPPOINTMENT! We've been purchasing our family Thanksgiving Turkey from the previous owner (Chicama Run) for about 4 years. This year, we ordered a 15-20 lbs turkey. What we "received" was a 7.8 lbs turkey and a useless apology, which left us scrambling to come up with the extra turkey for our family and guest. Time to find a new farm! read more

We've been visiting Chicama Run for almost 4years now. We get a monthly pick up of meat through their CSA. Joe and Dana do such a great job, their kids too. This is a working family farm. We need more of these!!! We love cuts that not everyone else likes and they make sure we know when those cuts are on sale! We bought a 1/4 steer from Chicama Run two months ago, and truly we have never eaten so well. We have bought into a steer in the past from other places, and while it's been very good, the steer from Chicama Run is clearly the best beef we have ever experienced. This beef is making me look like some kind of gourmet chef, which has actually led me to be more interested in cooking. I feel good about buying locally from a farm that raises their animals in a healthy and humane manner. The price is mostly better than grocery store meats, and when taking into consideration the incredible Delmonico steaks, NY Strip, and Filet Mignon, the prices really come out a good bit better than even the basic grocers such as Giant, Safeway, Shoppers, etc. So it's not just a good deal from a health and environmental standpoint, it's also a good deal money wise. My husband and I frequent farm markets in New Jersey where we live, so when we were visiting family in Northern Virginia, we decided to try Chicama Run. We were not disappointed! Pulling up to the farm, it is quite clear that the owners take great care and pride in their livestock and products and there can be no doubt that everything is free range. The eggs and bacon did our carbonara justice in a way that supermarket products cannot, and we bought an awesome steak. In addition, they had real, fresh lard which is impossible to find where we live, so we were thrilled. They owners were extremely nice, which was a huge bonus. We convinced our parents to go back for meat and eggs next time they are in the area. We will certainly return next time we are in town. read more

I paid over $1100 for a quarter of beef and this is too expensive. Burgers and steaks are good but the rest (short ribs, soup bones have too much fat). Had a friend who stated the CSA was junk but while I'm happy with the beef, not happy with the price as it's way too high so will go to another farmer next time. read more
