Low Quality Care is the Rule rather than the Exception…read more This particular facility is one that uses temporary stays (e.g. for people discharged from hospitals who still require a bit of temporary assistance before returning immediately to their homes) to "lure" in new residents. In my experience, Walker Methodist will house these temporary residents on the nicest floor with the best and most attentive staff, and the most pleasant surroundings. The food is better than elsewhere in the building, too. However, don't be fooled by this, please. Instead do your due diligence before agreeing to allow your loved one to move here permanently. Specifically, I recommend you drop in unannounced and tour the floors on which the permanent residents actually live. You will most likely witness inattentive staff, and you will quickly realize the overall quality of the physical environment itself is quite poor compared to the temporary floor that Walker Methodist uses as a showcase to try to "trick" people into committing their grandparents to live in the building permanently. Please go visit all the floors first and chat with some of the current permanent residents BEFORE you make a mistake by placing your grandparent here.

Why do we have to search for medical or doctor's and or care facility reviews and ratings? Or stupidly pay health grades? Dumb. Is it that immune to critique? Hum, I am dosing away a star to Walker today-- not because of the direct care- ( the people who really take care of people--) but because I am so bugged by their paper pushers Administrative staff. Not because of their awesome pastoral staff, and not because of their mostly awesome nurses and NAR's, but because there are high paid people that work there pushing paper, pushing folders, files-- that walk by residents in need. I am in shock on such a hot day when it's so obvious the weather is affecting folks on the dementia unit, and they are all dehydrated and thirsty, and the NAR's ( for those that don't know I think it stands for Nurses Assistant Registered) are multi-tasking, helping 3-4-5 people at a time, and a higher paid lazy bureaucrat paper pusher walks by and won't lift a finger to help any of the dementia unit people get a glass of water. 90% of the residents whos MA ( MA does mean alot of their social security checks go 100% to MA to pay a long term care facility) can't even reach for a glass of water themselves. So much for humanity, so much for losing touch with who is the reason you even have your job--stup' paper pusher. Small -- gifts of giving that matter-- are the real staff, the lower paid, real workers-- the RN's and NAR's that take the time to help people that really need help.

We lucked out in choosing Home Instead to take care of our 90 year old mother. (she was 87 at the…read moretime). Their services are phenomenal, starting with the first call. Mom was in rehab and about to be released. She refused to let anyone in the family take care of her because she didn't want to be a "burden". Home Instead came to the rehab facility within hours of my call and it was smooth sailing after that. Their patient coordinator, office staff, care givers, and especially the owner, John Stuck have been so attentive we'd think we are their only client. John has been to see mom several times and each time it just brightens her day (he is quite personable). We have never had a problem with their services and whenever I call with a change, etc, their response time is lightening fast and handled as though we are family to them. They also have a pay scale to match the clients needs. We are currently on the companion care plan and when mom starts to decline, we can move up a notch to the personal care plan, etc. And mom likes the variety of care givers each day. She has the same 3-4 that rotate (24/7) and she never gets bored. Since mom never wants to leave her home, now she won't have to - because of Home Instead, she can stay home as long as she wants. She is living on her terms which has kept all of us sane. When the time comes that you ever need this type of care, save yourself a lot of time and call Home Instead first - you won't be disappointed.
