I have never gotten a tattoo before today, so I can't say how this place compares to others, but if…read moreI get another one I'd definitely come back to this place. Everything was super clean and sterile and the people there were very friendly. James did my and my aunts tattoo, and he made us feel very at ease and relaxed. We just got very small, simple tattoos, but they were very well done! 10/10 recommend.

I made an appointment with Daniel based on seeing a tiny bird tattoo on a waitress at a local…read morerestaurant. I wanted something small and was a tattoo virgin, so made an appointment. Daniel was charming, funny, a bit silly, but I liked his style. When we made the appointment, they were supposed to be no bigger than a business card, he said it was definitely doable, but I received a much, much bigger design on both wrists. Again, at 43, I knew nothing about tattoos. I was kind of shocked, trying to just stay calm and cool due to the pain of the tattooing. When finished, I was still in shock. Daniel (who up and left the owner high and dry to go to another studio in Oneonta) told me to come back when they were healed for the second free seating to blacken them in and I did come back, only he wouldn't schedule me. He said it needed more time. He told my young daughter that he didn't like to book non-paying gigs, but I paid up front for everything and of course, tipped. I have been trying to get an appointment for a year and finally gave one last ditch resort to message through Facebook with, "OK, I'm a newbie to the tattoo world, but every seasoned person I talked to said I shouldn't have to hunt down the original artist for my second seating as I already paid for it. I will go somewhere else as the black is so spotty, then review you online wherever I can for just blowing off a client. I needed other work done and will go elsewhere to work with a real professional. I'm on 5 major sites doing recommendations at a senior level and hopefully can spare some others this type of grief. It's just silly on your part because I actually have the cash for other projects and you just don't bother answering or giving me an appointment. Oh well." This was his reply: "I'm out of state. Ill get back to you when I'm back in the shop, sometime next week. Also you could call the shop at any time and schedule an appointment for a touch up. [He told me before just to message, which I did repeatedly for the first few months.] Which is the professional way to do something, not harass and threaten me on Facebook. [He told me to come in, I did, no appointment, he told me to msg, I did, no appt, I waited a month or more between asking.] Sorry for any delays. But for the record I told you I would touch them up about a year or so ago. So please don't give me Sh*t and slander my name (wich is illegal by the way its called defamation of character). So again sorry I didn't get back to you right away, since yesterday. [He himself admits to not giving me an appointment for a year, so not sure why yesterday was brought in] But you have been dragging this on for over a year and expect me to jump at the whim of your convenience and a dollar. That is not fare to me in the least bit. Now I'm going to get back to the 1100 more miles I have to drive to get back home." In the end, another studio did the final seating without charging me for it, but I learned a lesson and will do my research on an artist before allowing them to permanently mark my body.

This was our first time getting a piercing done professionally, rather than the usual childhood experience with piercing guns at mall stores, and Caleb was incredibly kind, patient, and professional throughout the whole process. Caleb took the time to explain everything clearly, including how the piercings would be done and what to expect. He was very precise with placement, even measuring carefully to make sure everything was symmetrical and that we were both happy with how it looked before starting. After the piercings, he went over the aftercare instructions in detail and made sure we understood how to care for them properly. I was honestly more nervous than my daughter, but Caleb's calm and friendly demeanor made the entire experience feel safe, comfortable, and positive. Highly recommend Caleb and this shop, especially for first-timers, teens, or anyone who might be a little anxious. We couldn't have asked for a better experience!

Then, an important occasion came up and I thought, why not memorialize it with a tattoo? Suddenly, the "no" became a "why not?" Then, the next question. Where to have this tat done? Well, if you look it up on Yelp, The Dead Presidents Lounge has rave reviews. So I called up. Next, I was asked to email what I was looking for. The manager took a look at my request and assigned me to an artist named Mel. There are about 10 artists working there. The art that I was asking for was very delicate. It turns out, Mel is awesome but full disclosure, she has a slogan. It's written on a sign in her tattoo room. "Always late but worth the wait." I arrived 15 minutes early. Mel arrived 20 minutes late. No worries. I brought lunch and ate it in the waiting area. I studied all of the sample tattoos on the walls. It was an interesting place with a Hindu vibe. It was explained to me that the business owner is Hindu. When Mel showed up, she arrived in a cheerful burst of energy and she immediately threw herself into the project. She presented me with options. We talked at length. She was very determined to deliver what I was looking for and very understanding. She has mad skills as both an artist and a communicator. She got it. And when she was done, it was perfect. A floral armband with a tiny blue butterfly was designed to look a bit like arm jewelry. The cost was $200. Mel was concerned that I would be in pain but actually it didn't hurt much. She gave me instructions on how to take care of the tattoo so that it doesn't get infected or dry out. As I was getting ready to leave I asked Mel about her thoughts on Asian fantasy animals. She smiled. "So you're already thinking about your next tattoo?" she asked. " I get that a lot." Yup. She got me. After years of putting off getting a tattoo, I may be back soon enough to get a tattoo on my other arm. Thanks, Mel and The Dead Presidents Lounge for your remarkable work.
