I was discharged from the hospital 3 days after giving birth. We were told my son had a great latch and was getting plenty of colostrum- despite his drastic weight loss and a few instances of low blood sugar. At his one week check up, I was told my milk was taking a bit longer to come in, but to just keep doing what we were doing- constantly feeding. After several days of no sleep for my husband and me, we decided that things had to change. We reached out to Shari and she was able to come to the house the next afternoon. Shari spent several hours with us- weighing my son before and after a feeding, watching how my son nursed, checking his latch and ultimately determining the root of our nursing issues. Before leaving our home, Shari set us up with a manageable game-plan. We were so happy that within 24 hours things were turning around for us. Shari was there for me in my time of need. She was really helpful and compassionate when I went through difficulties with latching and breast feeding. She walked me through a bunch of feeding positions and tweaked them to work with my body. She took the time to watch me over and over again until I could get a good latch. She always responded very quickly and had lots of solutions to offer. She helped me build my milk supply when it was low, and gave me lots of other solutions for breast feeding difficulties I had. She was supportive of my decisions and very kind when I felt frustrated. I felt extremely cared for and supported and grateful to have a such a knowledgeable and compassionate lactation consultant. Shari is more than incredible. I had less than satisfactory lactation help at Rose Hospital when I delivered and discovered my baby had a lip tie and tongue tie and saw Dr. Witkoff of Colorado Tongue Tie and he recommended Shari to help with fixing my baby's latch. I called Shari the day I got home from the procedure and she was available to come the very next morning at 9:30am! Since I am autoimmune and due to COVID, she agreed to meet me outside on my porch. She taught me so much about the latch, baby's cues, my milk supply, my pump, how to weigh baby before and after the feeding. She even brought her professional scale to weigh baby and tell me how much he took. She is kind, caring, incredibly knowledgable and just a fantastic educated lactation consultant. Sheri has been a crucial lifeline during my pandemic 4th trimester. We struggled with oversupply, engorgement, mastisis, clogged ducts, weight gain concerns, baby gas pains, and likely colic in the first two months. Shari was wonderful to work with. As a new mom, I was not expecting how hard breastfeeding can be. I had many challenges and ended up needing to supplement with formula a few days after coming home from the hospital. This was not how I envisioned breastfeeding going. I was lucky enough to find Shari early on. She came to my home and was professional, knowledgeable and empathic to my situation. She gave me hope that we could turn things around and I am happy to say we did! After a few in home visits we were exclusively breastfeeding as I had envisioned and it was finally enjoyable! Sharie gave me a double dose of education and encouragement Babes was 6 weeks. She was unlatching and shrieking. I was concerned babes wasn't getting enough and couldn't figure out what the problem was. I called Sharie on the recommendation of a friend with a newborn. Sharie came in with a full blown infant scale! Within 30 minutes we could see how much babes was taking in on a regular feed--which was majorly reassuring. By the time Sharie left I knew that babes was getting enough, I was equipped with new techniques for helping everyone be comfortable, and I had her number to continue troubleshooting over the coming weeks. Shari was a lifesaver! I'm a first time mom and couldn't get my son to latch without a shield, plus the hospital I birthed in recommended I pump in addition to feeding to ensure proper supply. As a result, I was seriously oversupplied and didn't know how to stop the feed and pump cycle without resulting in breast infections.. plus I still couldn't get my baby to latch! Shari is a Godsend! My son was born with jaundice and was incredibly sleepy (which impacted my supply). Resources were very limited due to COVID which led me to Shari. She took a ton of time with us and worked with us to get his weight up and my supply up. It took triple feeding and close to a month but Shari was there through it all. I had a terrible time nursing my first child and struggled through 6 months before I quit. I never even thought to reach out to a lactation specialist because the hospital specialists were not helpful at all for me.
