Many programs for children which is nice. Free tech time appointments so you can work with a librarian to answer questions. During the winter they tend fires in their reading rooms. Fires books and…read moreweddings The Cape Porpoise Library is a small community library located in the Cape Porpoise section of the town of Kennebunkport. A small, one room library, it is actually part of an old building called Atlantic Hall. Atlantic Hall was an old fire house built around 1914 but when the new fire station was completed across the street in 1959, Atlantic Hall became available for local and private events. Lots of parties, weddings, celebrates, concerts and even lobster bakes have been held in the hall. The library is small but definitely full of charm and history. Not a whole lot of books or materials but the larger and far more useful Kennebunkport town library is located only a short distance away. The library is just one room but has a lovely ambiance with old and new photos, comfy places to sit and lots of cute and interesting stuff kind of scattered about. Not a huge or stunning library but one that is definitely unique. This place is an anachronism, a library that reflects how things use to be. You can get a book, use a computer and even have a lobster bake, attend a party, or get married upstairs. Just the way people have done for a long time.

There's a lot of chairs and tables by windows so you can get some natural sunlight while you read or work. The second floor has a lot of maps and information about Portsmouth which is nice if you're unfamiliar with the area. The staff is very friendly and help. I've been coming to this library ever since I was in elementary school. It has always been…read moresufficient for the small town of Wells. They are always staying updated and often getting new books. The place became much nicer and felt less crammed with the renovations and addition in 2018. The dedicated children's section is often having activities such as an after-school Lego and Rubik's Cube club on Fridays. The new quiet study room in the addition also expands the adult section and makes the space feel more open. There is something for everyone at this library!

Stones clocks and…read moreowls The Ogunquit Library is a relatively small building that was dedicated and built in 1897. As with most libraries of the time it was constructed with private money. I love old libraries and love old libraries made out of old stones the best. This entire building is made out of local field stones. Incredibly stunning to look at. I spent some time just walking around the lovely building admiring the work and textures of the library. Of course having lovely gardens outside the library doesn't exactly hurt the experience. But the library is more than just a lovely building made from cool stones and surround by beautiful flowers. Although that would probably be enough for me to give it five stars. However to make things even better the inside of the library is lovely too. All kinds of cool things are inside; great old pictures, stuffed owls, huge grandfather clocks, lovely ceilings, rocking chairs and even a small model of the library. It even has books, periodicals and computers but you can find those at any library. This library is definitely something special, both on the inside and out. Maine has a whole lot of very cool libraries but this one is really, really one of the most stunning.

It's also made of stone, but the style is more Tudor and the inside is larger. This library is relatively small, but it's well laid out, elegant in design and functional. It was built in 1897. You can read its history on the library website. It gladdened my heart just to sit inside it. I checked the shelves of books for sale, a relatively small collection left over from the book sale, according to the librarian, a cordial young woman w/ an English accent who grew up in London, but didn't find a copy of "A Gentleman in Moscow". There are the usual computers and shelves and shelves of books. The library is open from 9-12 and 2-5 daily, except Sundays. In the winter it's closed Sunday, Monday and holidays.
