After a brief discussion with Bryan Norton, he suggested drafting a demand letter "for $1500-2000" and send it to a person I was in a dispute with. He didn't know the details of the case, and seemed more anxious to send a letter that any legit lawyer would charge $300 for rather than hearing what the case was actually about. You know you're dealing with a shady person when they are chomping at the bit to charge you exorbitant fees for something they don't know anything about and don't even want to spend the time to learn about. I would never recommend this hack of a lawyer, and find it hard to believe there are enough fools in the world to keep a guy like this employed.

I have learned that these matters are a specialty; you can run through money like water AND get poor if not even downright damaging advice if you do not find the right person. In elder law, it also really helps to have a heart. The person I dealt with at Idaho Estate Planning is Mark Wight who is the president of this firm. I cannot speak highly enough of Mr. Wight's thoroughness (he briefly quoted law to me rather than giving an opinion about which I was left to wonder how much art and how much science I was hearing), depth of knowledge in his field of specialization plus honesty and heart. He even told me when I could write a certain letter myself! If you have aging parents, get a lawyer YEARS ahead if you can- there is so much more than the drawing up of wills and much needs to be planned for so far in advance. This at equally important whether you fear your folks may run low on cash OR if there is an inheritance anticipated. Do not "just talk to the family lawyer". Specialization in elder law is crucial for these matters. Mr Wight is an expert- with character- that I recommend to the highest degree possible.

Hiring Krista was the worst decision I made in my divorce. She allowed Mandatory Disclosures from…read morethe opposing side to be 6 weeks past due before ever saying a word. She allowed my ex to enter my home on two separate occasions, against a court order, and did nothing to put a stop to it. She allowed my ex to max out our credit card and knowingly leave me in a completely financial crisis, and took no action against him. I tried to fire her before trial based on all of these facts, along with over 32 unanswered emails in a few month timeframe. She not only lied in her affidavit, stating that the reason for her withdrawal was because communication between client and attorney had broken down and that I wasn't paying my bill (which was paid in full at that time), but then she also didn't show up for the hearing and instead sent someone else in her place who had zero knowledge of our case. The judge subsequently denied the request for her withdrawal, forcing me to keep working with her. She looked me in the eye at our next interaction and said, "have you found someone else yet, because I know you don't want me representing you?" She knew my ex hadn't complied with Discovery requests but waited until a week before trial and then filed a Motion to Vacate and Reset the trial date, which the judge denied and stated, "Ms. Thiry, if you knew all of this Discovery was missing, shouldn't you have filed a Motion to Compel at some point?" Her reply, "Well, I was hopeful we could work it out between the parties, but here we are." Along with denying the Motion, the judge then allowed the opposing side to turn in an additional 1,000 pages of documents 5 days prior to trial. I ended up accepting a horrendous settlement in attorney-assisted mediation the day before trial because I was more terrified of having her represent me than I was of taking an awful deal and at least being done with her. I personally know a few other people that have had very similar experiences with her and I've had the situation reviewed by a couple of other attorneys and they've suggested that they believe I should sue her, but finding an attorney that is willing to go after another has been unsuccessful. Krista seriously failed me in my divorce and I would very strongly recommend against anyone hiring her!
