There isn't much to write home about regarding Gray Owl. It's a nice quiet little shop with lots of seating in a space that kind of reminds me of a flea market or antique shop with tons of furniture from the 70s and before. The menu is decent and expect to receive your beverage in some homestyle glassware if you are dining in. We aren't talking exact measurements and consistency at all that other shops offer (which is kind of weird given how precise some coffee lovers are with their timing, weights, and ratios for brew). I ordered a cold brew with soy and it was refreshing but I didn't really care for the mason jar. The coffee was decently strong (had a nice earthy rich flavor) but it just wasn't very comfortable to drink out of. If you're looking for a nice quiet place to enjoy some nostalgia and descent brew - this might be the place for you but if you want a more updated environment you might keep driving. The service is good. The coffee is good. The food is good. What else do you need? There's something unique about their coffee that I can't quite articulate. It's the flavor. It has a but of an herby aftertaste, but it's yummy. I always get the vanilla soy latte. I tried the Chai latte, but it was too spicy for me. Not hot spicy, but literally too many spices. I'll stick to my go to. You can't walk in without buying one of their delicious baked goods. I always go for the muffins. They change the flavor every day and they are baked in house. Their quiche is also to die for, but it's easy to miss because the options are written on a teeny tiny chalk board. The atmosphere is a great place to hang out, and it's much better than commercial chain coffee shops. read more

What is it with adorable coffee houses not having whipped cream! This must be a sin not to have whipped cream. The coffee is excellent. They have very good beans. I did like the ambience and the decor. I'd have wanted more flavors. They have lavender, vanilla, caramel, hazelnut, peppermint and sugar-free vanilla. The staff has always been quite nice when I've been there, and the decorations and seating are very aesthetically pleasing. When I was in Norman for school I didn't really get to try a lot of coffee shops in the area, I guess because my love for coffee didn't happened until after college. But its better late than never right? Anyway, I met a couple of friends here this past weekend. I got a vanilla ice latte. The price for it was similar to other local coffee shops. Service I have to admit was not the friendliest, the guy who took my order didn't bother to smile, just really straight to the point. Well thank goodness, the coffee made up for the cold service. It was served in a mason type jar. The coffee had a nice aroma, no burnt tasting, with a good vanilla flavor added in that isn't too sweet. The place has decent amount of seats. I come here all of the time out of necessity. It's the only boutique coffee shop in Norman that I know of. I order 3-5 lattes here each week (not because they are good but because they are available) and the one time I forget to order my drink the way I like it, they refuse to remake my beverage. Any other coffee shop I have EVER been to, if you don't like your coffee, they will remake it. NOT HERE FOLKS. Stopped by for a quick drink on Saturday afternoon before heading to an OU graduation. On the recommendation of my cousin I got the three-three-three tea; I can't exactly remember which three types of tea were in it, but peppermint was one of them, and it had a cool, fresh taste that I enjoyed. The baristas behind the counter were very nice, especially when we asked for milk to pour into our tea. I tried my cousin's lavender cookie and it was very nice and chewy. So i know it's not technically in OKC, but Gray Owl is by far top 3 best coffee shops in OKC, and here's why: The atmosphere: It has that perfect small town, college vibe that every coffee shop (In My Opinion) should have. The decor in there by far one of my all time favorites, and I have seen some nice coffee shops across the country. It's never loud in there, so its a great place to go study for school, hang out with friends, or even just a quick 5 minute stop N go for coffee. The coffee: The coffee has been great every time I've been there. it's consistent, and it's never too hot or too cold. One thing i love here is the flavor of their coffee you can really taste the beans that they use.. when you can taste their beans even in a latte, then that's saying something. The Location: I love the location of this place, though i would prefer there to be more parking along the stripe, but its not that big of a deal. Overall, this place is a must stop by if your in Norman, Ok or even just passing through. Biiiig Cirque coffee fan. I visited this coffee shop about 3 years ago and had such an isolating experience that I didn't go back until last week. Honestly, it was the exact same. I feel like unless you look a certain way, like the cute crocheted cardigans or embroidered hats, you will get side-eyed by every employee and customer in the facility. It's a bit dark, but that's the vibe. The furniture is cute, as are the decorations. The set-up is inconvenient, as it's almost all large seating/larger tables with 1 person sitting at them. Through no fault of the customers, it immediately just feels like there is no space for you. The pastries look good though I did not try them. Interesting flavors, as should be expected (e.g. cardamom peach). The baristas will make no effort to welcome you or engage despite being the only customer in line. They will make your drink quickly to get you out of there, which is nice because you will want to leave. But you will also want to go back, because Cirque coffee is good. 1 star for speed, 2 stars for Cirque coffee. read more

We lounged on big oval/corner couch in back enjoying our hot drinks while relaxing and chatting away from the hum drum of the day, if only for a little bit. I would recommend this to anyone who loves good coffee and a place to work on homework or read. Not only does gray owl serve incredible coffee but they also homemake pastries everyday. They have cookies, cakes, scones, muffins, bagels and just about everything in between. I love the blueberry scone, Apple butter scone, raspberry muffin, chocolate chip cookie and last the brownies. I also thoroughly enjoyed the atmosphere which is eclectic and quite. Very nice place to study! I love their drip coffee, lattes and hot teas. Went here today on a whim, I was craving something warm to drink, and so was my honey. We got a hot chocolate and vanilla latte. Both were made in a timely manner, and tasted delicious. I could tell my hot chocolate was made with real dark chocolate and not the fake powdered stuff due to the caffeine punch and strong real chocolate flavor, and the vanilla latte was so yummy that my significant other couldn't stop drinking his hot beverage. The place itself seems to be a place where college students come with their apple macbooks and study or do their homework. When we went today, all the tables and couches were filled with people on their portable apple computers drinking their caffeine filled beverages and eating a fresh pastry. We were too full to try any of their yummy baked goods, but I really wanted to try their blueberry muffin, blueberry scone, pumpkin scone, pumpkin bar, sugar cookie, and etc! For the life of me, I cannot remember the last time I had such a good cup of drip coffee. It was so enjoyable that every sip was immediately followed by me making eye contact with Tanya M. and going, "Mmmmmm..." It helped that we were practically parked on I-35 during the post-work rush-hour so that I could do that without being concerned for our safety... Seriously... What a delightful cup of coffee. I've been trying to figure out where they get their coffee from. I noticed that one of the older reviews mentioned that it was Intelligentsia, and then another reviewer mentioned that it's not Intelligentsia anymore. Gray Owl doesn't have a website, and their Facebook page hasn't been much help. If anyone knows, please enlighten me and make a friend for life. However. The price is kinda... "Ehhh." Actually, the price is perfectly reasonable. For what I thought I was going to get. When I noticed that it was $2.00 for a small, I thought that it was not terribly expensive. This is especially true considering that everyone's favorite terrible coffee vendor (i.e. Starbucks) has a small (tall, whatever) beverage for approximately a quarter less. But then I'm informed that Gray Owl's small is 8 ounces. Which, if we were talking about an espresso beverage... Sure, whatever. I understand... Local. Artisan. Profit margins. Et cetera. But $2.00(ish) for 8 ounces of drip coffee is kind of... Mean. And I didn't even get the full 8 ounces by the way... Gray Owl has created this weird conflict in me where I want it, and don't want it at the same time. Once I figure out where the coffee is from, I probably won't be returning. Other aspects of note: The environment and decor is quite nice. As others have mentioned, there's a hipstery vibe, and the bicycles all over the place is a pleasant thematic choice. Staff isn't very welcoming each of the three times I've been in. It seems they have a lot of regulars and for a new girl in town they haven't been very willing to help out with the section on the menu (either with suggestions or explaining what's in some of the items). It's a good place for a meeting (which is why I've been 3 times), mostly quiet and comfortable, but the coffee wasn't impressive. They do have good pumpkin chocolate chip muffins. read more

From the moment you open the door, the door is pretty, I could tell I would like this place. There are bikes hanging from the walls and it has a retro college vibe feel to it. Most importantly the coffee was good too. I got an iced vanilla latte. Not to sweet, just perfect. I didn't try the baked goods, which are made from scratch, and those look scrumptious too. Have you ever heard of those stories where random strangers see someone in need, so they spring into action? Like when an ER nurse stumbles upon some unresponsive person in the street, so they do chest compressions to save that person's life? Well I had a similar experience at Gray Owl Coffee. This visit began like just like every other coffee shop visit. I walked up to the counter and ordered a pour over coffee to go. The barista rang me out and started to make my coffee. While she was still making my coffee, another customer showed up. Thinking she could probably take this order in the time between pours, she started ringing them up. As soon as she does, another person walks in. And another. And another. Soon enough there was a five or six-person line building up, so she has to stay there and ring them all up. I think there was one customer that didn't know what they wanted because the line screeched to a halt. So there I am waiting for my coffee, which is almost done, but the barista at the register is too busy to give the drink to me. Clear across the shop, another employee, we'll call him Heroic Bearded Barista (HBB), turns and sees me waiting. He looks at the pour over station to see the final drops land in the cup. His eyes dart between me and the coffee and he thinks to himself, "that man needs his coffee!" Weaving through customers and vaulting over tables, HBB skillfully makes his way towards the bar.* Upon reaching the bar, he grabbed the cup and heroically called out, "Pour over to go!" I received my drink, gave him my thanks, and took a sip of the coffee. It was a darn good cup of coffee. Expensive, but good. Thanks, HBB. My wife & I go every week, at least once. It's also a place we take people from out of town or if we're meeting with them. The place IS pretty "hipster" & the music can be chill or erratic or even weird, depending on who's got control. I get that the vibe isn't for everyone, but it's probably the most chill coffee place in Norman & definitely has the most unique personality. The coffee isn't bad, but I definitely prefer the espresso drinks. There's a ton of art on the wall for sale & display that rotates regularly, which is fun. In the warmer months, it's nice to sit on the patio outside. Anything they've baked or made & sell is worth buying - ANYTHING. Most cafe food is pretty generic, but they make their own in house & quite often. Go once & see for yourself if it's the kind of place you'd like to hang out. If not, maybe try Michaelangelo's or Stella Nova. Those places can be a bit distracting for me, though. Gray Owl's atmosphere & service will keep me coming back. read more

Went in to get iced coffees to go and it looked like they ran out of iced coffee so they just filled the cups up with a lot of water instead of asking me if I wanted something else. I had never seen iced coffee that watery looking and I tasted it and it tasted like mostly water but the lady who made them just said that's how they're supposed to be and didn't offer to remake or make me anything else. I took it home to my sister who gets their iced coffee often and she said it def wasn't supposed to look that watery. Waste of $8. I like supporting local shops but at least Starbucks will remake drinks right for you and not argue with you about it. read more

I'd already hit my coffee quota for the day by the time I made it here, so no input on that, but the chai was pretty good - very sweet with nice foamy milk.
