I had to bring my constant companion Shyla in yesterday after health issues forced me to put her down. The level of care and compassion we received was the best. Shy always panics at the vet and they offered to euthanize her in the car. I was given extra time with her and not rushed. When the time came Shyla left this world on her favorite blanket in my arms while I scratched her ears. She never knew and that means so much to me. I have been through this before and seen vets cold and heartless, forcing a dog to wear a muzzle or rushing without compassion. Unfortunately I was forced with a horrible situation. My mom was being evicted and had to put her aggressive dog down and get older cat.I was told I could use a fund for people who can't afford to humanly put there animals down. But because we couldn't take the body's due to the ground still being frozen i got charged $500 !!! That my mom definitely didn't have nor did I .how horrible to lose an animal be homeless and they get charged a crazy amount. read more

I have never in my life been asked to leave a waiting room and have to stand outside ( no chair or bench) because my dog is crying because she is in pain. I understand that trying to fit us in but really???? I'm standing outside being bit up by mosquitos while we wait. And very hot too. Very poor customer service. If this wasn't an emergency I would not come here . When I move permanently up here they will not get my business. read more

Had to have our beloved dog euthanized while on vacation. Had no idea where to go, these guys were open on Sat AM, so they were our only option. Exceptional experience with Dr Craig and all staff, even tho such a traumatic experience for us. Liked Dr Craig better than our regular vet of 30 years at home. I only see these guys under the most unpleasant of circumstances--my best little friends are feeling lousy. The warmth, knowledge, experience, and compassion of the staff here make those problems go away quickly. I can only speak for the dogs and cats, but mine have been treated well, handled gently, and seem genuinely at ease with the staff. I've had direct interaction with Drs. Mesack, Powning, and Craig. All jewels. The techs and support staff are terrific as well. I hope everyone else's outcomes with the staff here are as great as mine have been. read more

Today was the worst experience Ive had with a vets establishment. I'm looking at it as a blessing as it shows this place cares very little for peoples pets. Figured I would share my experience with Grayling Hospital for Animals in hopes to prevent other folks going through what I experienced. Basically without saying it, they told me through their actions that they don't care if my dog lives or dies. And I'm a cash paying customer. Here it goes... I had plans to breed Max and Ava. My two dogs. Unfortunately, I made an appointment to have Ava spayed after discovering she had hip dysplasia and torn CCL due to her bone structure. I paid for the knee surgery which wasnt cheap and have to give her supplements to ease her dysplasia situation through Oakwood In TC. I went with the decision to have Ava spayed as I did not want to pass on that heart breaking hereditary issues for someone to experience that pain and emotional situation that I encountered. I called Grayling Hospital for Animals to schedule her spayed appointment back in Novemeber or December. I ask the lady if she needed to have blood work done and the response I got was they will do it the day of the appointment which was today along with giving me a quote for everything. This was a call that took place months ago. As I waited for this appointment to get Ava spayed she had some issues that made me have to rush her to the animal emergency room in TC. The emergency vet told me she had liquid on the horns of her uterus and though an emergency spayed wasn't necessary at this time, Ava would need to be spayed soon. I informed them I already had an appointment with Grayling Hospital for Animals on Feb 3rd. They said that should work but I wouldnt delay the spayed much longer then this. Fast forward to Last week I get a text message about a reminder that Ava has an appointment the following day for Grayling Hospital for Animals. I call to inquire about this appointment and get a quote as well as being told its optional to have an IV in Ava as she is put under for her surgery. Seems sketchy as I would think any person or animal being put under would already have an IV in them. The IV was an additional $85 or something as well as bring a stool sample with no guidance besides just that...I had not set this appointment and had asked in the initial conversation with this establishment if Ava would need a appointment for bloodwork. Now being notified this appointment and less than 24 hours for bloodwork after I was told no need for this appointment. So I had to make arrangements to get Ava to her appointment. I show up for this appointment with also a stool sample collected from the night before in a plastic bag. This establishment says they cant use the stool sample as it had been frozen. Well didnt know I was suppose to bring it inside and let it chill in my house all night. Strike two...as no guidance was given about the stool sample. After getting Ava back and go to to pay my bill and its more then what they quoted me over the phone. Strike three at this point...the tech tells me they forgot to tell me about the OSHA fee. Ok whatever at this point... Thats was last week. Today I show up to Avas appointment for her spayed and the tech comes out to my truck and asked me if I brought my paperwork....I asked her what I was suppose to bring? She said shot records and whatever else I may have. I told her I was unaware of this and she tells me they called the night before and also they can't do the surgery without these documents. So I've waited over two months for this appointment and again no guidance provided that I needed to bring something and sprung on me on the day of the appointment and being told they can't do the surgery without the papers. I vented my frustration to the tech walking her through the whole process and explain my dogs needs as she was just in the emergency room in Traverse City and needs this spayed. The tech retrieves the vet who comes out to my truck Dr Christa Maxwell comes out and I calmly explain Avas situation along with my experience so far with trying to get her spayed through this establishment. I made the comment that after this is over that I will probably no longer bring my dogs back as this has been poorly handled. Dr Christa Maxwell immediately says that she would not feel comfortable spayeding Ava as I am already frustrated with how this has been handled along with an elevated count in one of her kidneys but Dr Maxwell already knew about this before this appointment as Dr Chista Maxwell had left a message on my phone stating that she planned to do a test on Ava before she started the spayed on Feb 3rd. So the only new factor was that I had explained the discrepancies of how this was being handled and I felt like because I said I would discontinue using them after Ava needed a potentially life saving spayed, this vet said they would not do the spayed because I wouldn't continue to use them and that they had alre read more

Last night my dads dog had an encounter with a porcupine and she was left with about 11-15 quills that needed to be removed. First thing in the morning we called around and decided to go with GHFA because they were referred by the animal shelter where the dog was purchased. When my dad arrived at GHFP they told him to leave the dog for further assessment, but would call him with an accurate quote before starting the procedure. They called and said it would cost $165-, and my dad gave the "ok". When he went to pick up his dog, the employee said they had to talk to the doctor before running his card through. She came back and told my dad that he owes $246.30!!!!! Wtf? The agreement was $165-!!! He had to pay because the procedure was complete. We will never be back. Buyer beware! This place has a business ethic that is way off key! I don't want anyone else to get ripped off. read more

Very caring compassionate staff. They do a great job of explaining all the options to treat my pet.

This is by far THE best place to take your little (or big) animal family member. The doctors and assistants are so kind and loving to our babies and to us humans. While visiting Grayling with our 16 year old beagle, Fred, two weeks ago, our beagle began having seizures which ultimately lasted throughout the night. Despite our attempts to calm and comfort him, he eventually became unconscious from exhaustion. We visited the clinic unannounced as soon as they opened and asked that they humanely put him down. Despite the fact this was our very first visit, the staff and veterinarian were extremely caring and compassionate. They complied with our wishes and could not have been more kind to Fred and us in his final moments. We cannot thank the staff enough for their professionalism and support. read more
