I've been here for two appointments for some hand issues I've been having…read more Unfortunately, I am not impressed by the wait time. It took me over 45 minutes to see a doctor for a morning appointment. The waiting room was getting pretty packed by the time I got into a room, too. However, I really like Chris Dillon, a PA there. He is gentle and thorough and takes the time to answer all your questions. I've had to follow-up on some claims not being sent to the correct address, but so far, they have been very responsive.

When I attempted to pre-register online the system told me that the birthdate I entered did not match what they had in their system and would not let me proceed. I called the office and told them about the issue, verifying my birthdate for them. The next day they called and said they had fixed the problem and to try again. I did, but the problem remained. So, the day of my appointment I arrived 25 minutes early to fill in the paperwork. I then proceeded to wait for my 10:30 appointment. At about 11:00 I was taken into an exam room and told the doctor was finishing up with his last patient and would be in shortly. And so I waited some more. After waiting for more than a full hour, I decided that we could no longer wait. I informed the staff we were leaving and asked them for my copay to be returned. At that point, I was told (again) that the doctor was finishing up and could see me soon. No thank you! I understand that "emergencies" can come up during the day's appointments, but I have decided that my time is as important as any doctor's time, and I will not wait for longer than an hour to see anyone. So doctors, fix your scheduling systems, and do what it takes to show your patients that you value them and their time. As an addendum, I was waiting with my husband, who runs his own engineering firm, and if he were to show up over an hour late for his appointments with clients, that would be a complete lack of professionalism. They may have great doctors at The Hand Center, but they are not the only game in town. I now have an appointment with another highly regarded orthopedic practice.

She's a great doctor and I couldn't recommend her enough. From the moment I walked in, I was treated by the service desk with kindness and respect. I was the last patient of the day but you would have thought they were waiting for me all day. Clearly, the employees are treated well and this must be a great place to work if everyone was this engaged. I came in with a year of severe heel pain and was awaiting the worst. Dr. Vander Poel came in and could not have had a better bedside manner. She quickly found what was wrong and it was a simple solution involving exercises and stretching. Following her direction, I was pain free in two days! I feel 10 years younger. If you have foot pain, come here. If you have to drive from elsewhere in the state, do it. They are that good.

I had an ACL replaced in my right knee and my husband had one rotator cuff surgerically repaired by…read moreDr. Dugdale. My husband followed Dr. Dugdale's orders on recovery ( which Dr. said was absolutely necessary for positive outcome) and has regained full use of that arm. My husband fell and hurt his other shoulder. For that particular injury, Dr. Dugdale did not recommend surgery, but PT instead. My husband did the PT at appmts/home and has regained full usage of that shoulder/arm as well. I too have full usage of my knee as a result of the surgery. Dr.Dugdale is an excellent surgeon and really knows his stuff. I wouldn't have any orthopedic surgery done without consulting with him first getting his recommendation and if deemed necessary then would request him to do the surgery.

I had what turned out to be a torn meniscus which caused intermittent pain. Dr. Dugdale suggested…read morethat arthroscopic surgery was optional but, since I had a planned vacation which involved a lot of walking three months later, I elected to have the surgery. What the X-Ray (and radiologist's report) said was that I also had mild arthritis. And the surgery had a risk of inflaming the arthritis. I don't recall Dr. Dugdale mentioning that risk, all I recall was a generic list that would apply to any surgery. But, regardless, following the surgery, I was in constant pain well beyond the expected recovery period and DR. Dugdale decided it wasn't an orthopedic problem and sent me back to my primary care physician. I eventually went to a different orthopedist (in a different practice) who ordered a new MRI and found the arthritis had, indeed, flared up. The reason I won't return to Dugdale again is the way I was dismissed as not having an orthopedic problem when, indeed, I did - and not one that was difficult to diagnose or particularly unlikely under those conditions, if he'd taken the time. I hobbled through vacation, as a result.

Dr. Shields is low-key and…read moreeasy-going in his approach, he's a good listener, and he even has a sense of humor (which seems to us important if quite rare for any doc). Our foot problem was worrisome but wasn't a major task to repair: it required removing a hard callus and doing some difficult trim work, and it was accomplished quickly and thoroughly and professionally. We came away satisfied - even happy? - with our treatment. We'll be back again in two months. Dr. Sheilds has for decades had a successful surgical office in Florida before returning to New England to be closer to family. His wife is the office manager, and she has the same pleasant demeanor. So, if you have some issues with your feet - which we don't wish on anyone - you should be comfortable starting with this practice here in Litchfield.

I cannot tell you how patient everyone was with me from Kelly Hernandez, the lead surgical assistant to Donna, the x-ray technician all the way to Dr. Kennon himself. Mike, his PA was also highly competent. Everyone was proficient in their area and also extremely kind when answering what I'm sure were my silly questions. Dr. Kennon went out of his way to explain what would happen on the day of surgery and even called me the night before surgery. The surgery itself was highly successful. I feel 10 years younger with my new knee. I would recommend Dr. Kennon without caveat. He and his staff are truly a rare find.

From my very first consultation through my hip replacement surgery and recovery, Dr. Kennon demonstrated exceptional skill, professionalism, and compassion.
