As a new patient, I had scheduled an appointment with Dr. Mastella to discuss the surgical treatment of a trigger finger. When I attempted to pre-register online the system told me that the birthdate I entered did not match what they had in their system and would not let me proceed. I called the office and told them about the issue, verifying my birthdate for them. The next day they called and said they had fixed the problem and to try again. I did, but the problem remained. So, the day of my appointment I arrived 25 minutes early to fill in the paperwork. I then proceeded to wait for my 10:30 appointment. At about 11:00 I was taken into an exam room and told the doctor was finishing up with his last patient and would be in shortly. And so I waited some more. After waiting for more than a full hour, I decided that we could no longer wait. I informed the staff we were leaving and asked them for my copay to be returned. At that point, I was told (again) that the doctor was finishing up and could see me soon. No thank you! I understand that "emergencies" can come up during the day's appointments, but I have decided that my time is as important as any doctor's time, and I will not wait for longer than an hour to see anyone. So doctors, fix your scheduling systems, and do what it takes to show your patients that you value them and their time. As an addendum, I was waiting with my husband, who runs his own engineering firm, and if he were to show up over an hour late for his appointments with clients, that would be a complete lack of professionalism. They may have great doctors at The Hand Center, but they are not the only game in town. I now have an appointment with another highly regarded orthopedic practice. read more

Only complaint is with getting release to work form on time. Workers Comp. Will not release you to work with out the note. 3 surgeries and 3 nightmares try to get a release form. This office needs a better system to get these out ASAP with out the patient having to call 3 or 4 times to say "you still have not sent this to me." Hate to say this, but I will not longer us this company for any future needs. They know about this issue and still do not address it. Bad business practice. read more

Doctor Mastella had a terrible attitude. You can tell he doesn't like what he does. Doesn't even know what he's doing. The exercises he had me do made my wrist even worse and now I need an x-ray. My wrist should have been healed by now but I have had this injury for over a year. I went to see a chiropractor and he said that he has no use for this place. read more

This place actually has a marketing manager! That should tell you all you need to know. The docs are factory workers, they do not respond to messages, and in my case, the care wasn't good either. They obviously do not value their patients. I think they just push through as many patients as possible to maximize profit. This is corporate medicine at its very worst. I've been here for two appointments for some hand issues I've been having. Unfortunately, I am not impressed by the wait time. It took me over 45 minutes to see a doctor for a morning appointment. The waiting room was getting pretty packed by the time I got into a room, too. However, I really like Chris Dillon, a PA there. He is gentle and thorough and takes the time to answer all your questions. I've had to follow-up on some claims not being sent to the correct address, but so far, they have been very responsive. read more

I needed an appointment, so I called them (I'd seen them a while ago, but my wrist was hurting again.) Stuck on hold; message keeps telling me to make an appt online. So I did, and found one for that afternoon. Got a confirmation text. Showed up, checked in, paid my copay. Had waited a half hour (20 minutes past my appointment time) when a person came over and called me. I got up to head in to my appointment, only to be told that I was NOT allowed to meet with the doctor with whom I had the appointment because I had seen somebody else last time and it was "office policy" that I had to stick with the same doctor, who was in surgery that day. NOW you tell me? They kept repeating the 'office policy' BS and refused to let me keep the appointment I had made and they had accepted AND checked me in for. Infuriating. read more

I have been to many doctors in my life, but no one has ever given me such a thorough professional exam as Dr Masella has done every time I've been there. He performed two surgeries on my right arm and hand with excellent outcomes for both areas. Not only is he a very top doctor but he's also a real gentleman and his staff are also very kind helpful and caring. I have to drive 45 miles each way to see him and it's worth every mile. read more

I had a 12:45 appt with Dr. mastella he came into to see me at 1:50 !! No apology or reason ( very poor first impression ) after a thorough exam he said there wasn't anything he could do for me , m granted I had carpal tunnel and dequervains surgery from orthopedic associates two years earlier with no change to my ability to write or type without pain/ discomfort. I felt rushed and at a loss as to what to do. I realize , as the PA from O. A. said " we're not God" this is my issue but I was not reassured by Dr. mastella, office staff was great. read more

Dr. Putnam took wonderful care of my carpal tunnel. I suffered with numbness for many years but was often looked over due to my age. Dr. Putnam listened and took her time checking my symptoms before we discussed and scheduled surgery. Surgery was easily scheduled and went very smoothly. read more

Great doctors, PAs and therapists but trying to schedule surgery is an absolute nightmare. People need to answer phones and if they can't they need to return calls promptly, not by the end of the day. The lady that schedules is nice and all but impossible to get hold of in a reasonable fashion. read more

Will never be going back here, went in for an issue with my hand and I saw a PA that knew absolutely nothing. His advice was just to slap a splint on my hand and it'll be fine. And proceeded to charge me 60$ for his "medical advice". Turns out I need surgery after seeing another doctor that actually cares about there patients. read more

I had a partial amputation of the long finger over the summer of 18'. When I met Dr. Piorkowski for the first appointment he was clean cut and presented himself well. He explained to me the parts of the finger that had been damaged and the nerves that would be effected forever. He had drawn me a sketch of what parts of my finger he had to remove and explained why. At the end of the first visit I knew I was in good hands and felt very comfortable he was going to do an amazing job after all this was going to be my first surgery and nervous to have the procedure done at all. The surgery went exceptionally well, he did everything he said he was going to. 7 months later my finger looks amazing for the trauma it suffered in the bandsaw. I could not have asked for a better surgeon this is why I am rating him 5 stars read more

I had a consult appointment a week ago yesterday for my right index finger . I was seen by a PA who seems rushed . The took x rays , which were not shown to me nor explained , just was told they recommend a pin be placed to straighten out my finger. Ok then , went out to the waiting room and was told someone would call me later that day to go over things and schedule surgery .... I'm still waiting for that call. No thanks , felt ignored. I'll be seeking a second and hopefully more through opinion . read more

I was very fortunate to have Dr. Piorkowski attend my hand injury. He was extremely professional, courteous, competent, and caring. He came in the middle of the night to take care of my injury and followed up very often. I never had to wait more than 10 minutes. The staff is friendly and competent. Love, Love, Love, The Hand Center. I can not say enough about this place. My son broke 2 fingers, I was originally going to bring him to a walk in, but some ladies at my work suggested The Hand Center. From the moment I called they were polite, efficient and so courteous. I was very impressed with how little waiting we had to do, between getting into a room to the x-ray portion to seeing the Dr. Dillon, who can I just say is fabulous. We then were directed to their on site orthopedic area where Ms. Lois made my son a customized splint right there. This place is like a 1 stop shop. Should I or anyone I know need a hand specialist, I will be sure to direct them to The Hand Center. Just Fabulous!!! read more

Dr. Watson took care of carpal tunnel on both of my hands and I can't believe how well it went. I was in and out efficiently and my recovery was quick. I was back digging trenches within a week. He and the anesthesiologist were awesome! read more

Dr. Piorkowski is an excellent doctor/surgeon. I highly recommend him and this company in general. I came to him three months after I broke my humerus. My elbow couldn't move past 90 degrees and my shoulder was very stiff. He performed a complicated surgery and the results were satisfying. I am still recovering, but without him and his team I highly doubt the surgery would have been as successful. read more
