Well, there are two words that describe this place - customer service. The thing is that I ended up here at lunch time, on the day that the final State of Origin match was going to be played. Needless to say that I was definitely not the only person in the pub. Yet, despite the hecktic nature of the place, the staff just seemed to handle it without breaking a sweat. Now that impressed me. Had lunch at the Boatshed, the most formal of the dining places at the Regatta. Nice setting, was about 80% full on a public holiday, luckily we had booked (2 hrs earlier). I had the small eye fillet, medium rare, with the chips and a tiny bowl of salad. This is a steakhouse, and the beef was very nice, albeit a bit too salty for me. The other steaks on our table, Nolan's Sirloin medium, the Banksia 500 gram rump rare, and the Wagyu medium rare were nowhere as salty and were assessed as "excellent". read more

I've been told about the iconic Regatta Hotel for quite some time and visited for the first time this past weekend. The place is really nice and I would say rather on the upper end of the spectrum. I don't know what it looked like before so I can't comment on that but it feels modern, chic, and you can tell there's been a hefty renovation! There was plenty of space for us to dance, drink, and mingle. We wanted to check out the Walrus Club but were a bit busy exploring the other sections so we will have to save it for next time. If you do want to head to the Walrus Club, you can't take your drinks from the Regatta. I'd like to come back during the day or early evening and check out the balcony area. This is a great place with a big group of people. They can handle large groups as the venue definitely has the space and capacity. I would definitely go back again! read more

Now this wasn't my first trip to the Regatta, I was here prob 15+yrs ago, it's a great old historic total Queenslander building, so that is amazing. The food was eh, had the Waygu burger and it was ok but a bit overcooked. Prob would do the fish and chips if I did it again. Although the starters, the squid/calamari was the best thing we ate that time by far! Can't recommend this enough. The beer was good, so if you need a drink, its a great spot. Unfortunately at the moment The Regatta isn't getting to live up to its reputation as a Wednesday night icon or a great place for a weekend beer. When I was fresh out of school The Regatta was the place to go on a Wednesday night. Everyone I knew would be there to have a drink, some banter, and a great time. The floods last year hit it pretty hard though, and right now it's undergoing massive reconstruction so it can comeback revived, refreshed, and ready for a whole new generation of school-leavers. In its glory days it was easy to get to if you had access to the Citycat, and it was a nice change of pace when you needed a break from the city or the valley nightlife. Don't fret though, because upstairs on the veranda, The Regatta is still open with a full public bar, and serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner 7 days a week. It's a great location just beside the river with spectacular views and a riverside breeze that makes so much difference. Now let's not get it twisted, I am talking about the dinner area, next to the beer garden. It is really nice. I thought it was nice a few years ago, but they've renovated the Boatshed again and it is really nice. Classy yet not so exxy. It is your city 5 star romantic dimly lit dining but in Toowong and not as much burnt out of your money pocket. The share plates are really nice, although the pork belly 'crackling' came out in sprinkles and a lit soggy which wasn't great. The tomato cabrese was really nice too. We shared the signature steak, which comes out on a massive chopping board and 3 sides related to Mexico plus a baked potato (or your choice of chips). 2 share plates and a main, with 2 cocktails, a lemon lime and bitters and 2 free espresso martinis for some reason set my hubby and I back $80 bucks... which for a date night with this experience, was awesome. Because for the same experience in a fancy city place, at least $200 it would have cost. Taste good, romantic setting, great service, great food, clean... love it. Will be back. read more

We were running late today so we popped into the Regatta for a very late lunch early tea. We ordered a cpl of drinks, two pizzas and sliders from the court yard. Excellent atmosphere about the surroundings. Had a cpl sips of my drink and our order had arrived. Food was tasty and well presented considering we were dining outside normal hours. The new look Regatta (refurbed after the 2011 floods) is, I suspect, a little swankier than Brisbane remembers the Regatta ever being. As many reviewers have noted it is no longer that place for students but rather a genuinely grand place to say to friend, "Let's meet at the Regatta for a few drinks." And this we did on a Sunny Saturday afternoon. There's a new kaliber of Regatta customer. They're a little more high brow, know how to hold their drink and isn't the place to get right rotten drunk. The ground floor bar is now open and amongst the exposed brick, white subway tiles and designer light fixtures it is indeed a cut above past versions. In a very relaxed environment we sipped the afternoon away from the Regatta's full bar (the boys beer, and even a few tipples on Sailor Jerry Rums with Coke and Lime - don't knock it til you've tried it) and not once over the course of many hours were we made feel like we had to move on or were taking up space as the bar filled with prep-tastic revellers. I'd highly recommend the new food menu, as well. The steak sandwich was fresh and although it took longer than expected to arrive to our table it was well worth the wait. The wedges we later ordered came to the table in a mini "deep fry" basket and many of our group noted they wanted them for home. Oh and did I mention there is now a breakfast menu? On the breakfast service: although I'm yet to try the Regatta's breakfast, on several occasions I've walked past around 7:30/8:00am to find the Regatta ground floor bustling with pre-work coffees, early morning business meetings and the curious. They must be doing something right and I take my hat off to this Regatta: Reincarnated. read more

Great food and a stunning atmosphere. My family and I came here for my 22nd birthday, we arrived mid afternoon so we had no issues with seating. There's a really great selection of food and beverages, from pizzas to truffle fries, all delish! Majority of the night, I stuck to white wine (too much of it hehe) but later on I was offered a cocktail, I don't remember what it was called but I know it was the first one on the left side of the menu, it was pretty horrible. It tasted like play dough ... I couldn't finish it, rare for me haha. I've had good experiences with both breakfast and dinner at the Regatta. Their wood-fired pizza is fantastic, my favourite being the vegetarian pizza with Haloumi. I could easily finish a whole one (or two) to myself. Breakfast is reasonably priced, delicious and their coffee is good. Not superb, but better than what else is available in that area. It's super rowdy on a Thurs-Sunday night, so if you want sit-down, go to the Boat Shed (attached), but if you're happy eating through the bustle of whatever sports are going on inside and out, then it's a nice option. Big ups to the folks at The Regatta. I like what they've done! Dined at The Boathouse on the Easter longweekend and had a great lunch. The restaurant dining area is well done. If you had dined here pre-2011-floods area, the area was hot to sit in and not terribly comfortable on a Queensland summers day. Now though It's also well air-conditioned and it's a great spot. The menu was great with a good variety of mains, including seafood options and a variety of steak cuts. The accompanying wine options were great too. I recommend a lunch at The Boathouse. read more

Definitely worth getting re-aquainted with this icon since it's first class renovation! We got there at about 5pm on Valentine's evening. The restaurant opens at 5.30pm. Luckily the manager found a table for us. Our waitress was fantastic! The food is brilliant - especially the oysters. read more

The main bar and street cafe at the Regatta Hotel have reopened and the place looks great! Regular patrons and stingy students may be a bit dissapointed that the feel of the hotel is much fancier and upperclass now. It's a great place to hang out on weekends-all open and chilled with great food from the cafe available from the bar as well. Rather than somewhere to get drunk on Wednesday nights, the new bar is somewhere to catch up with friends and enjoy a drink in a relaxed, classy environment. The $10 million rennovation isn't totally finished though, with a beer garden and the new Boatshed still to come. read more

Came here for some drinks and a bite back on a Wednesday night. The tennis games were on, and the mood was alright. The service was OK, the beer selection was better. With indoor and outdoor seating, They're ready for any weather. The pork tacos were so tasty- I hadn't expected much. And the dumplings were small, but still filled us up. The Regatta Hotel is slowly starting to get back to its former self but unfortunately it will still be a while because of the severe damage it received due to the floods. When you walk upstairs there is glass covering the area where the old bar and kitchen use to be and you can see first hand how much damage the floods actually caused and it stands as an eery reminder. You can still go to the bar that was on a higher level and is still open and sitting on the balcony is quite nice specially for after work drinks because you do get a good view of the Brisbane river. The times that i have been there it seemed to be the spot for some quiet beers and it never got too packed which is some times nice. It will definitely be interesting to go back and see what they have done with the place once the renovations are done. read more

I have many fond memories of Wednesday nights at the Regatta, drinking with my uni buddies in the beer garden, grabbing a free sausage (they haven't done this for a while), dancing til my shoes broke, and occasionally flirting with some sexy stranger. I remember the funky bathrooms that you could see out into the beer garden from, the time my friend smashed the glass front doors by accident and I remember the courtesy van that would drive us home at the end of the night. Unfortunately the Regatta was severely damaged during the floods at the beginning of the year and while most places seemed to have recovered, the Gat is still looking worse for wear. I am curious to see whether they will try and restore it to its former glory or go for a whole new look. You can still go to the upstairs bar, which is actually kind of nice as you look out over the Brisbane River. Still The Regatta is just not what it used to be but I will wait eagerly to see its return. read more

The bar food, Pimms and Sangria jugs are fantastic (though of course not terribly cheap). They have a variety of trendy beers at decent prices, but loose a star because they don't have many (if any) normal/average beers on tap, just the fancy stuff which I'm not always in the mood for. Love the decor, and the bar staff. I've eaten at the restaurant a little while ago. Great food, but average service. Lovely atmosphere. Contrary to previous reviews, they're not serving a 'new clientele'. It's the old students they served before the flood only now we've graduated, got real jobs, a bit more money, and ever so slightly more refined tastes. :) read more

A great place to chill and have a few wines with friends. We went on a Sunday afternoon and throughly enjoyed there rose and beers on tap with a plate of sweet potato wedges and a burger each. The chicken burger was delicious and packed full of a sauce and a large slab of chicken. Came with fries too. Table was always cleared of glassware and service was good and friendly. Outdoor entertainment is pumping with a live singer. Will return! read more

Coming to this place I had high standards by looking at the interior of the restaurant, not to much the exterior I thought it was 'dated'. I ordered a schnitzel for my main meal, the plate was lop sided for whatever reason I don't know, the chips were undercooked, I prefer my chips gold and crisp to the touch, the salad was not tossed prior to putting on my plate which was highly inconvenient, the schnitzel was very hard to cut which was also inconvenient since I have a boil on my arm. Was looking forward to breakfast at Regatta today, but no parking on street and all their carparks were locked. So went somewhere else.

Back at the beginning of 2011 I was travelling up the coast, catching up with friends who'd scattered far and away since the halcyon days of our youth. Last stop on my journey was a long overdue catch up with my bloody legend of a mate Benjamin, who a few years earlier had upped stumps and moved to Brisbane (or, as it has long been affectionately referred to in the Courier-Mail, "Brisrael"). I was working a very stressful job in the media at the time, and I was intent on using my sabbatical to avoid any sort of news stories at all. While I did a pretty good job of regaining my sanity and perspective, it also meant I flew into the city 48 hours before the peak of the most severe flooding in four decades, and didn't realise this until about six hours after I arrived, while I was in casual conversation with one of Ben's hippy housemates. I probably would've registered this information sooner, but I was incredibly disoriented from the humidity, and also because when I arrived at Ben's place in Toowong, he'd just wrapped shooting a promo clip for My Period is Late, a single by local punk outfit The Flangipanis. The next afternoon we went to the Regatta in the early afternoon, because everyone in his house who was working was sent home for the day, before the train lines were washed out. A lot of people in the area didn't get the message and missed the last services out of Toowong, and with Milton Rd closed and nowhere else to go, resigned themselves to spending the afternoon testing the limits of their renal system. My God, people up there just drink and drink and drink like locusts in a cornfield. Whatever though, I'm not one to judge. This place is obviously a local institution, a great view of the (then incredibly flooded) Brisbane River and the (then almost submerged) ferry terminal, as well as the city on the far bank. There's a great selection of beers on tap as well as all the local staples from the nearby brewery. Unfortunately the kitchen was closed while I was there, so I couldn't comment on the local delicacies, but the place gets full marks on vibe. Definitely none of the glass to the face recreational hazards that you get in places like the Valley, nor any of that fey Manic Pixie Dream Girl aesthetic that you see over in West End that gets so tiresome whenever it's ubiquitous. There's an interesting, diverse and friendly crowd there, great for a chat. One weird thing that happened there - they've got a huge TV projection on one wall of the front bar, probably as big as the size of a modest house. They must use it to show the footy at certain times, however when I was there they had the flood coverage from Channel Seven news. When we got there at about 4 in the afternoon, they were just starting to show the flood waters coming through Ipswich from a cameraman in a helicopter, and whenever a car was washed away by the torrent of water, they started hooting and hollering like when Charlton Heston's captors discovered he could talk in Planet of the Apes. Bloody Queenslanders. If I live another 7.6 millenia to the ripe old age of 9595, I'll never get my head around them. * Look it up on YouTube, it's great. I don't know the band from Adam, and it's your usual pop punk fare, but the clip features a great parody of the shower scene in Psycho, stop motion footage of evil tampons and an incredibly gratuitous amount of fake blood. The reason it was disorienting was because after filming finished, he invited everyone to jump into his backyard pool and we all got tucked into the beers while the water slowly turned pink from all the fake blood on peoples' clothes. His housemates were pretty stroppy with him for the rest of the time I was there, but they were pretty good to me. My favourite was this guy who was on leave from the ADF, who'd just come back from a tour of East Timor and told me all these brutal stories about his time in Oruzgan while he kicked my arse in Call of Duty. When he came to the Regatta with us, he didn't talk much, he just sat at the table with his palm pressed on the surface and his fingers splayed, hitting the gaps between his digits with a pocket knife and speeding up his stabbing with every lap. The floods hit Brisbane pretty hard. Some of the most devastated places where right on the river and Regatta Hotel is still under some pretty heavy repairs from being in one of the most vulnerable areas but it's half reopening means it's still open for business on it's second and third floors. I finished school and Wednesday nights used to be great at the Regatta, or Regretta as it's more widely known. It's mostly being used as a function venue at the moment and if you ever need to book one I strongly suggest giving this place a look. read more

We usually love coming to the regatta and were celebrating my graduation but we were burdened with the rudest waiter I have ever encountered. For a $250 dinner and another $200 dollars behind the bar on drinks we really didn't need to be reprimanded when we got there by Michael who criticise our drink preferences all night. My partner ordered an 18 year old Glenlivet neat with a dash of water. If she wanted it with a dash of water and is going to pay $18 I'm sure she could order it however she wanted without the waiter telling her she's ruining it atleast 3 times before we could even order entrees. I'm sure if she was in a sports jacket and 20 years older he wouldn't have needed to to tell her she was ruining a scotch. Not wanting to ruin a good night, I calmed my partner down and we would politely tell the maitre de as we left. Unfortunately, Michael prepared the bill. He asked me if I enjoyed a dessert wine he brought over, I thanked him and said it was a bit too sweet (why I didn't finish it) and condescendingly, he tells me 'it's a dessert wine, it's meant to be sweet'. I know you just served me maple syrup in a glass I picked up on that, thankyou. Everything else was great, good food and other staff were excellent as always. I went with a group of friends for a birthday party - large group so we were required to choose from a limited menu. Service was very slow and the food was average at best. The scallop and pork belly entree was well underseasoned and the pork belly was on the soft and soggy side, and while the scallops were well cooked, they tasted like nothing. The beef tenderloin main, with broccolini and baked potato, came out looking like it came from a cafeteria: Slopped on the plate, with the sour cream potato topping dropped onto my steak and gravy. Very visually unappealing. Credit to whoever was on the grill - the steak itself was cooked beautifully. The gravy tasted like it came from a packet. All in all, not worth the $50 by any stretch.The ambiance was quite nice, and maybe if we hadn't ordered as such a large group the food might have been better. But when I can make a nicer meal at home, I'll definitely not be going back. read more
