Gave my barber a picture AND video of what I wanted. Said that I wanted to keep most of the length but go through and layer it. I walked out of the barbershop with my hair almost 2 inches shorter than when I walked in and looking nothing like what I had asked for. I have had long hair my entire life. I don't think I have ever enjoyed a haircut until yesterday with Dave. Most times my hair gets started out the way I want it then the barber gives up because it's to hard to control business in the front and unkempt but still healthy in the back. Place was filthy at mid-morning. 2 barber chairs. Clumps of hair on chair from previous customer. Guy posing as barber was sitting on his assets on filthy barber chair. Quick, but no clue about how to deliver a good basic haircut. Website says: "Haircut - $26 An expertly executed cut to your specifications, followed by a soothing hot lather neck shave, finished with a invigorating shoulder massage." Barber didn't follow my specifications. He wasn't an expert. He didn't offer "invigorating shoulder massage". Avoid this place to bypass a bad haircut amid filthy conditions. Spend $4 more and go to Hudson Hawk Barbershop for a the best haircut, shampoo, and shoulder massage in a very clean setting. read more

Do you like your haircuts with a heaping helping of bigotry on the side? Have I got the place for you! I visited this barber shop a few days ago for the first time. I sat down with my book and began what appeared to be a short wait, excited to try this place out. One of the customers who was getting his hair cut mentioned the fact that he was taking a trip to Boston which prompted a discussion with his barber about seeing some of the historical sites. The other barber felt the need to chime in and say "You better see that history while you still can!" I didn't really understand what he meant by this until he said "They're trying to take away all of our history and make us a socialist country!" My first thought was "That didn't really fit with the conversation" but I let it go. I made some assumptions about which cable news channel might be his favorite and then went back to my book. A few seconds passed before the second barber again felt the need to be heard. "What's that town in Michigan?" To his credit, the other barber asked the correct question which was "Which town in Michigan?" "The one with all the Muslims." -- "Dearborn." "Yeah, Dearborn. I wouldn't want to go there, huh, huh, huh." Apropos of absolutely nothing, this guy felt the need to tell everyone in his place of business that he had no interest in traveling to a city within the United States because there were people there that practiced a different religion. It was at that point I decided I didn't really want to support this business (or listen to any more of this guy's ramblings). So I left through the door that had a Jesus fish prominently displayed (great job on the whole love-thy-neighbor thing). I went to Great Clips and got a fantastic haircut for half the price and with absolutely no religious intolerance whatsoever. I've been getting my hair cut at this place for a couple of months now. It's a two-chair shop in the middle of a strip mall, next to Old Navy. There are four barbers that work here, and each one has done a great job with my cut. Each cut ends with them actually shaving your neck line. They also hit your back with a massage machine at no extra charge. I can't recommend this place enough. If you show up and it's busy, be sure to ask them for a card and you will be able to leave and come back while keeping a place in line. read more

I've been going here since 2008. I'm very picky about how I want my hair cut, but indecisive and terrible at describing what I want. Before going here, I would describe what I want and the results are mixed although they followed my instructions. Here I don't need to be specific. I can vaguely describe it and hey understand my concerns and it always turns out fantastic. Very good company and they're willing to talk about anything as well as other waiting customers. Only bad thing I can comment is that it can be a battle to find availability as there are often long waits, especially on Saturdays or the early evenings when everybody is getting out of work. However, the wait is worth it and they use a card system to give everybody a slot in line so they can leave and come back later. They have time estimations down to an art form. read more

The place is cramped. The two guys cutting hair were complaining about other clients, swore many times, and had a very misogynistic and heated conversation about politics that made the whole visit very uncomfortable and felt unprofessional. This may have been excused if the product was any good, I'm not one that's easily offended. It didn't look how I told them to cut it, and the neck shave at the end was done with a dull razor that was dragged down my neck and left me with many cuts and open wounds. The worst part was, without a tip it was $20! I went to a different barber shop to get it fixed, and they were amazed at how many stray hairs there were and asked if the original barbers had ever cut hair before. I might've asked the guys to fix it while I was there but I didn't want to spend another minute there. Not a fan. read more

I've been getting my hair cut by the same young lady in Des Moines, IA for the past 13 years. Now I just moved to Overland Park, KS and needed to find a local barber shop. I drove around with my Garmen today and also took my wife's input and found the Great American Barber Shop. This was my first cut there and it was not only a great hair cut, but a nice place to go. Clean, friendly barbers, a wet neck shave and a back massage to top it all of. I'm looking forward to my four weeks being up when I'll be in need for another hair cut there. Enjoy. read more

They always remember me, remember what I want done, and make me laugh along the way. Love this place. Showed up and had an approximately 45 minutes wait. Got a card and wandered around the shopping center killing time. This place gets the award for the worst haircut I have ever seen! My husband went here and when he came out he looked like he was wearing a helmet. And a haphazard one at that. The sides were not even and the the length was not consistent. They shaved his neck but missed patches and went too high in one spot. He has always gone to barbers in Omaha, NE and Chicago and has gotten decent haircuts. I didn't even trust the place enough to send him back in. We unfortunately had to go to a super cuts across the street because we were having guests that day. The barbers even charged $18 and I don't know how they could have done that in good conscious. I'd gone to this barber shop a few times before and had the younger barber do a great job. Went two weeks ago and got Buddy, the older guy with white hair and a hand tattoo. He wrecked me pretty badly for such a simple fade and comb-over style, leaving me with drastically uneven fade lengths on the left and right sides of my head and a part that was about an inch away from where it should have been. Went back yesterday to get a trim and hopefully get the mistakes cleaned up and unfortunately landed on Buddy again. His first comment was "whoever cut your hair last really messed it up". He then proceeded to set my part to the opposite side of my head (said it had been wrong for the last 25 years), mess up fade symmetry AGAIN, and then give me a hard time when I asked to even the symmetry up a bit - saying this like "I wont do that" or "it'll look bad". Having my left side with a 1 inch fade and right side with a 3 inch fade looked bad, Buddy. 2/5 stars on days the Buddy works, 5/5 otherwise. read more

There is no better barbershop in the KC metro area. I have been to nearly twenty over my lifetime and this is the best! I have been going here for four years, and have every guy in my family going here now, and they share my sentiment. Walked in before 5PM young barber said they were full for the day......they closed at 7PM. One person waiting. Seemed they were trying to get out early. Had been there several times before and I never been turned away. Dissapointed.
