I recently visited Sportsclips on a Saturday morning to get my son a haircut prior to taking him…read moreback to college. The shop was scheduled to open at 9am, which worked well for us as we had to be on the road at 10am (non-negotiable). We arrived at 8:50 am assuming we would be first (or close to first), when the shop opened. That manager arrived at 9 to open the doors, and quickly explained that "all of my stylists are running late". They had all arrived by 9:10, but were in no way ready to give haircuts, as they then proceeded to hurriedly prep their stations for the next 15 minutes. 9:25 rolled around, and there was no indication that my son was anywhere near getting in the chair. It was apparent that we weren't likely going to be able to get a haircut in the time frame available to us as previously hoped, so we had to leave. My advice is as follows: if you advertise to open at 9am, that implies to your customers that you are not only open for business at 9, but ready to give a haircut. There is no reason to open your doors at 9am so customers can sit around for a half hour waiting for your stylists to prepare for the day. If that's going to be the case, change your opening time to 9:30am. I'm sure my son would have received a fine haircut, but unfortunately we'll never know.
