It's been a while since I've written a review!! Lots of stuff going on in my life, mainly the fact I just moved to Rochester in December all the way from Virginia Beach to be with my first love whom I rekindled with over the past year and it's been amazing. Anyway.... you know I overshare. Furthermore, I've tried a few of the restaurants up here but I had a GREAT experience at the Great American Diner and was inspired to leave a review!! My lovely boyfriend suggested we try this place out. He said it used to be Wimpy's and it was new to him as well. Turns out that was a great decision. Walking in, all of the staff had a great attitude- everyone was in a good mood. We were seated quickly in one of the cozy booths, despite it being pretty busy. This place reminds me of the diners I used to enjoy back home. Assorted jams on the table and condiments for our use, very convenient! For seating, there is also a bar and regular tables. There are TVs that were playing game shows. The menu is quite expansive, you can get all sorts of breakfast items (omlettes, pancakes, waffles, french toast, wraps/sandwiches, platters) as well as plenty of lunch options (sandwiches, burgers, wraps, plates like roast turkey, country fried steak, garbage plates). There are even gluten-free and vegan options. I saw gluten free bread and vegan / gluten free pancakes. I decided on something simple.. a chicken salad sandwich on a hard roll with lettuce and onion. I got tater tots and mac salad with it. The bread was soft, topped with a hearty portion of the chicken salad. My tots were so crispy and delicious, and the mac salad was delightful!! Not many places get the mac salad right but I really enjoyed it! My boo got a breakfast garbage plates.. mind blown lolz!! It had home fried, sausage links, over easy eggs, cheese, and of course topped with meat sauce. You can decide if you want sausage or bacon, how you want your eggs cooked, and what kind of toast you want (bagel, biscuit, english muffin, wheat or white toast). He pretty much cleared his plate. He really liked it. I definitely want to come back here and try their other items, maybe some of their breakfast options this time. Oh, and their milkshakes... gahhh I really wanted one but I had to go into work and was worried I would have a tummy ache lol. Not gonna lie the food was not that great, had big chocolate chip pancakes which were good, scrambled eggs which were bland and not that good even with salt & pepper, and I had the chicken sausage which was pretty good so the food gets a 2.5/2.8 out of 5 stars at best. Now the reason I am giving it a 5 is because when I walked in, I saw a young lady (forgot her name but she had on 9060 Black & Grey New Balances) she was working her a** off. Clearing off tables, getting people seated, getting people rung up, and she reminded me of myself when I used to work in the food industry doing the same thing. I have a true appreciation for people who work hard and do a great job even though the pay in these positions aren't that well. But however, her hard work ethic is what stood out most to me and I appreciate her working hard . read more

$7.25 is high for a breakfast sandwich. I've never received a breakfast sandwich on a hard roll without two eggs. One egg just disappears in the roll. I ordered two eggs on both sandwiches, but I guess the software doesn't work unless you select an extra egg. Totally lame. Adding an extra egg would cost $2.50 which is ridiculous! Customer Service was brisk, told me I did it wrong when their software is messed up and they were not at all helpful. Too many other local businesses rely on our patronage and are happy to provide a great sandwich. This place just doesn't seem to care and is out for the profit margin. We'll go elsewhere next time. read more

This awesome diner opened in August 2023 but today (12/16/23) was my first visit. My mom and I had heard about the "large" pancakes and were looking forward to trying them. The location is easy to find, on the end in a strip plaza. Plenty of parking and no steps to get inside. It is bright and clean with booths, tables and a counter. We stopped at the hostess station and even though it is a Saturday we were seated right away. It was a bit loud inside due to the high ceilings, lots of people, and holiday music. Bathrooms are not gender neutral but were clean. The menu is extensive but we came for breakfast and pancakes. Our server Jojo was great - friendly, efficient, helpful and kept my coffee cup full. The coffee and food were also great. I recommend the GAD Breakfast combo we each ordered it with a giant plate sized pancake. I had blueberries inside and outside of the pancake - very fresh and delicious with real butter. Real Maple syrup is also available for an up-charge. Neither of us finished the pancake but we did get a cardboard boxes to take leftovers home. We will definitely stop back with my hungry teenage sons! read more

I've always supported local over chain. It's sad to see one who insults it's customers. I get eggs are pricey, but at $17.50 3 eggs that are not real eggs at all. Liquid eggs that were awful, crusty and grey. Plus a hair. The waffle and bacon were good. If an establishment is going to use substitute, notified customers and adjust the price. Went here for breakfast on New Years Day it was pretty crowded with a 40 minute wait. When we were seated our waiter was very attentive. I had the blueberry French toast, it was awesome, I would have liked some whipped cream on top. The service and timely delivery of our meals was outstanding. Great portion size and reasonably priced. Had to come back for lunch today after an amazing breakfast last week. I had cheeseburger with mac salad. Ordered medium and came back perfect. The meat sauce was the star of this meal but Mac salad gave it a run for its money. Wife had grilled cheese and soup and was very pleased and especially liked the soup. Finally, stopped in for lunch after going here for breakfast four or five times in the past year. Asked the friendly waitress what was popular and ended up going with the Turkey Bacon Avocado wrap and tater tots. Excellent choice. Portion size was generous, tots were crispy, and the wrap was delicious. Only got through half of it. The food came very quickly, which always surprises and delights me. The diner is a little sterile, but clean, bright, and comfortable. Easy to have a conversation at a booth or table. Definitely recommend the Great American Diner for breakfast and now for lunch, too! read more

Have been here twice in the past couple months. I got soup the first time and it was very salty. The second time was a melt. It is very expensive and the food is not worth it. Went there Sunday morning for breakfast, very busy wait was longer than they told us it was be but whatever, you feel me. Anyways I got the Cab steak I believe , it's steak and eggs. I got the eggs sunny side up and my steak medium rare. The steak was advertised in the menu as a ribeye idk wtf that was but it wasn't a ribeye. Anyways the first time it came out my steak was well done. Sent that back and got some vile excuse for a nicely cooked steak. I'll put the picture below. Didn't eat the steak. Everything else was truly mediocre. The best part of the meal was probably the churro waffle yummy and sweet. Back to bad things my girlfriend got something like the egg and the chicken, it's a breakfast sandwich. The chicken patty tasted like a school lunch patty from Greece schools, you could also compare that to a Byrne n Dairy chicken sandwich. Not bad but not diner quality I would hope. Also the sandwich came with no sauce or good toppings, just cheese chicken egg and bread. Just feel like it wouldn't be hard to do a little more there. Ambiance was fine I guess I mean it's a diner. Our server was all over wasn't to good with refills and extra service other than the main part of her job. So yeah over all if you want something sweet it's probably okay but if you want a breakfast with substance and cooked with love... go very far away from Great American Diner. read more
