My kids and I just left Sam's diner with the intent to try a new local place for us. Unfortunately we didn't get past the drinks orders due to the glass being completely filthy. When I asked the waitress she replied "that's how they come out of the machine" I asked for the check to pay for it and to speak to a manager she said she owners the place she then went and got someone from the kitchen to come out and he asked me what's wrong I explained to him about the filthy cups covered in dirt and he proceeded to yell at me in front of my children, telling me "F**k you and get the f**k out of here now!" Located in the former Chinese restaurant I used to frequent with my family in my youth in irondequoit, Sam's offers classic breakfast fare at a great price. Sam (who I assume was the owner and namesake) took my order and cooked the food. 3 eggs over easy, side of bacon and toast. Simple. For about $5.75. Can't get much better than that on price. The food was not over or undercooked. Just right. Tasty and quick! Side note: a regular sat at the counter and suggested I stop by on Friday nights when they serve dinner. He raved about the dinners. I'm so disappointed. We have been going here for a couple of years. The last few times the waitress, who I believe is the owner's wife, has been very rude. We give them a lot of business with family and friends. She has snapped at us when asking for anything. We try to be friendly and make small conversation and she has ignored us. Waiting for my son to get checked out at Rochester General, I needed to find lunch on East Ridge Road. I bypassed all the fast-food chains and found Sam's Diner tucked in a tiny mall. The tuna melt on rye was terrific with large slabs of tomato. The waitress gave me extra napkins, and I enjoyed every bite. read more

Sam's Diner is a treasure on East Ridge Road! What a discovery! First off we were welcome with and immediately seated, at a window overlooking the fish pond in the atrium below. Then someone brought us menus & coffee so we could get started, then Lisa came over and introduced herself and said down in the booth across from us to take our order. Felt like home! Two delicious omelettes were delivered within a reasonably short time, the coffee mugs work and consistently refilled by Lisa with good conversation in between. The quality of the omelettes were excellent, portions were generous, service was the best, so we will spread the word and be back ourselves. This is the best breakfast in Rochester! The food is delicious and the prices are more than reasonable. My favorite is their pancakes, they are always light, fluffy and flavorful. My husband and I have been going to Sam's for breakfast just about every week since they opened a couple of years ago and we have never been disappointed. I'd give this place a 0 if it was an option. We finally decided to try this place for the first time for breakfast and once we entered we immediately knew that this wasn't a place that gets much business. Sadly, we were shown why. Despite me seeing how horrible this place was when it comes to service (Thanks Yelp) we still gave it a try. We ordered and received our food quite quickly. I ordered buttermilk pancakes, home fries, and french toast. My girlfriend ordered just ordered the hash browns. I mostly ate the pancakes of which I didn't finish but they weren't that bad. But the home-fries did not look as cooked as I'd seen on previous customers plates so after 2 small bites of that I was done with the home-fries. I don't like soggy food so the French toast only got one bite. After we received the bill I explained that I liked the pancakes (being nice) , and that it was just the home-fries and French toast that I didn't like. The waitress decides to get her husband. He comes up to the table and says "what's wrong with the home-fries". I proceeded to telling him and he responds saying ," I'm not gonna change the bill! You have to pay because I had to pay". At this point I'm just like "okay". I go to my car to get my wallet while my girlfriend stays at the table (I wasn't even going to ask if they took apple pay). On my way out while I hear the door closing I heard my girlfriend say "he's coming back". She must've thought we weren't going to pay. Fast forward, I walk up to the counter to pay and I said to the waitress," I'll pay for the pancakes and her hash browns". She says to us "Pay or I'll call the police". My card that was in my hand now gets placed back into my pockets. I then said,"Lets wait for the police". I guess that was her way of trying to bully us into paying for that crap food".She then went to the kitchen the get her husband to handle this matter yet again. That wasn't the problem! The problem was when she got to the kitchen (DOOR WIDE OPEN) she said "This bitch is out here telling me off". Of course , this upset my girlfriend and I. The Irondeqoit Police officers we very helpful to this situation. She would have had me out of the door if she didn't mention the police as I was about to hand her my debit card. They took off 1 item that I ordered. It's sad that police had to come for that. I could tell that they genuinely understood us in the situation that occurred (The police were the understanding ones Not the people that run this "Diner" ). DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME OR MONEY at this sad excuse of a restaurant the food isn't worth the disrespect. Also, If you don't like what you ordered or don't eat it because you simply didn't like it, they WILL try to bully you into paying for it. Simple diner on a quiet location. There were only a couple of people in here when I came for lunch. I had a gyro, fries and salad. All the food was very good, fries were nice and crispy and the salad was very fresh. Place appears clean. It has quite a bit of space on a narrow building, so don't judge size by the outside. Food was good but the service was garbage. When my husband and I walked in with our baby ( we are people of color) it was literally a record scratch moment. You would have thought it was the 1950s in Mississippi. There was a lady sitting at the counter who I thought was a waitress and we smiled and said hi and asked her if it was open seating or if we should wait to be seated. She just stared at us and didn't say a word so I figured my bad, she's a customer. Then another waitress walked in and she said hey, ya'll can sit anywhere and we were like great, thanks! Unfortunately, after that exchange, she clocked out and the same "customer" who was sitting at the bar gets up when 3 (white) male college students walk in and immediately \ guided them to their seat and took their order. Well, I don't know where to start with this one. This Diner has AMAZING food and even better prices. The staff is also very friendly and the food comes out so fast its amazing. I live in the area and I found this spot and was so happy. I would visit at least 4 or 5 times a month. Well this is where the two stars comes into play. One morning I went and everything was great until a Rat came from under the table I was sitting at. IT WAS A RAT. It was not even a mouse (Idk if I would feel differently if it were a mouse). My food hadn't come out yet and I immediately went into panic mode. I told the waiter I had an EMERGENCY and needed to leave. Since the food was already ordered and being prepared I paid for the food and left. It really turned my stomach and I can never eat there again :(... Unfortunately, I did not get the opportunity to be serviced in order to provide a rating. I was addressed in a less than friendly manner as I waited to be seated and was asked by the waitress, "Can I help you"? The question was asked as if I had mistakenly walked into the establishment. I was told to sit anywhere. When the waitress came back to my table, I told her I noticed the no credit card sign on the door and asked if that included debit cards. She emphatically told me "cash only". As I was saying that it might pose a problem because I wasn't sure if I had enough cash, the waitress snatched the menu from in front of me with a sarcastic, "so sorry" and promptly left with my glass of water. I should have taken the hint when I pulled into the parking lot, and there was only 1 car parked. The second hint came when I noticed that there were only 2 other customers in this place and they were together. The third clue was the man standing towards the back of the place just staring at me. I assume he was the owner. Now I see why the place was destitute! I'm not accustomed to being treated this way and I am always in favor of writing positive reviews when they are warranted. Maybe I was not of the ethnicity that they prefer to serve here, but again, they literally had no customers. Never again!
