I just took my friend Ernie there for heather, who I assume is the manager done his hair I don't know what she call a trim but he asked for the top to just be trimmed a little bit like a quarter inch off the top she took about an inch and a half to 2 inches off the top He said that he had been growing it out for two years and he wanted it long so I'm not sure how she measures a quarter inch but he's very unhappy with it and it's shorter than what he wanted so I don't know how to give a good review when it wasn't a good haircut!!!!! Until I called. I did not realize that Heather is not the manager. Some other woman is a manager and I found out that she's just as rude as Heather Heather was snotty when we asked for a refund and told us to come in tomorrow to pick it up and hung up so we will not be using this facility ever again once we get our refund!!! read more

DON'T GO TO THE HASTING, MI SALON They butchered my daughter in laws hair. Her hair was above her behind, she wanted a trim. She tried stopping them when they start cutting it by her shoulders. They said it would be above her shoulders. Some ended up by her shoulders, by her ears and chopped everywhere. It was insane. Their response was one for the record books. read more

I spent quite a bit of time looking for photos of type of cut I wanted and settled on one. I had bra length hair when I went in and had a clear photo of a shoulder length cut. First red flag - I entered with a face mask but the stylist said "Oh, you don't need that here." After I had put it away she commented "I'm old fashioned, I don't believe in that stuff." I showed her my photo and explained why I like the style (mainly because I have thick hair with 2c type curliness) and she said OK. She worked quickly and when she was done there was no going back. I pulled out the photo and held it next to my face and asked "does that look like my hair?" She said "Kinda". I left with a chin length chop. I happen to have 3 GC salons within a few miles of me so I have choices. I have had great experiences with the other 2. I will never go back to the Ypsy location. read more

We ended up at Great Clips by mistake while looking for Fantastic Sam's and decided to give it a try. I go to specialty salons for my hair because I know that most stylists aren't used to African American hair; this was for my Caucasian partner. The inside of the salon is nice, and the stylists are kind. However, the haircut my partner received was just not at all what was asked for. It looks okay, but just no. The consultation was all of 30 seconds, and it seemed like the stylist just went off and did her own thing. She said she would trim the ends, but cut off inches. She was only supposed to trim the bangs a bit, but they're much shorter than was asked. We asked for layers, and I'm not really sure what's going on up there anymore. The haircut was too short all around, and the bangs weren't even. And while it didn't look positively dreadful, the haircut was all wrong. Great Clips is inexpensive, but for a haircut similarly priced at Fantastic Sam's we've gotten much better results. The stylist did not listen to her customer, and the haircut was all wrong. Went in for a simple haircut, more of a trim really. I asked for about 2 inches off, a longer layer, thin my hair, and said maybe id do something to my bangs. My hair was longer in the front because i had a bob done last time and i wanted that evened out I left with maybe 3 1/2-4 inches off, no layer because it was just way too short, and then she suggested to angle the front longer so it wouldnt be too short. I never wanted it that short. Im pretty sure she didnt want to start trimming a little off because then she might have to go back and touch it up. She was in a hurry. Never really said a word to me. Terrible. I came into the place based on the reviews here and from a friend. All I needed was a quick trim (less than an inch) and the girl took off 2 inches of my short hair and ended up shaving the back of my hair cause she cut it shorter than my hair line in the back went. I told her I only wanted her to just make it clean for the interview tomorrow and she ruined my hair. Not only did she cut it too short, but I told her to not touch my bangs and she chopped them off so now they stick up straight instead of having the sideswiped long bangs I had before. As she blow dried the hair she nearly burned my scalp and didn't turn the heat down after I told her to stop it. The manager was there and they were busy and instead of being talkative or even polite she was telling my stylist to hurry to keep up with the time schedule. The manager made a big deal of scheduling appointments in the office and was rude to a man who wanted to get his hair cut as a walk in. I should never have gone here and will never come back. I should have taken the manager's poor behavior as a red flag. I didn't think anyone could mess up a quick trim to look clean for an interview. I was wrong and regret how terrible my hair now looks as a result. This place is not even worth the one star. read more

I got to the location in less than 10 minutes and they said my wait time was actually about 50 minutes! Came in on a Friday around 1pm for a cut. After a short wait I get back and tell lady I want it shaved with a 1 guard. The stylist blows through it in less than two mins and says she is done. I stand up check it out in the mirror and I can tell there are some hairs left uncut but the stylist is already waiting for me at the register. I decide it's not worth sitting back down if she doesn't care about the quality. Once I pay and get home where I have better lighting I realize she missed nearly half my head around the ears and the back of my head. My wife had to get our clippers out and finish the job. I have thick curly hair. I roll into the salon and they tell me there is wait. I wait patiently. When the lady comes over to cut my hair, she starts combing through it without regard for my ears, face, etc. She cuts my hair completely dry and in huge chunks. My hair is a giant frizz ball and she asks if I like it . There was a man getting a buzz cut that came in at the same time as me; his hair took longer to cut. This place is terrible! I had been growing out my pixie for over a year. It had finally gotten long enough that I could cut it into a bob. What does this stylist do? Shaves the back of my head! She shaved it from the bottom of my neck to almost the top of my crown! Are you kidding me? The only thing I okayed for her to shave was the bottom of my neck line. To make matters worse on the sides and the front it is choppy and uneven! There is no good way to fix this without cutting it into a shorter pixie than I had gotten over a year ago. Thanks alot. Went in to get a simple #2 on the sides and finger length on top. After she said she was done all seemed fine. Couldn't really tell if anything was bad because my hair was so wet. After I got home and dried my hair I saw that it was very choppy and uneven. I can't even get my hair to look right because of how bad it is. The only way to fix it was to buzz it all off and now I'm almost bald because it was so bad. Not the first time it Has happen but I had no other choice because it was an emergency. Never going back. Just went to get our 4 year olds hair cut, it can be hard with him as he can take a bit to warm up so luckily no one was there waiting after us. Staff is unfriendly to kids especially shy ones, would it have killed you to maybe attempt to say hello to him and interact or just acknowledge he was even there, he is a customer too and you should acknowledge even your littlest of customers but he didn't even get a look or smile from your employees He wasn't screaming or acting up in anyway, just tensing up and being shy standing next to me while I coax him to try a hair cut. I know it's not your fault when someone's child is shy and scared but you shouldn't be in this field of work if you can't handle it when they do come in. I consider myself pretty high maintenance with my hair- it's always styled, and I get it cut pretty religiously every 6-7 wks. I'm a fan of salon products, and I'll be the first to enjoy a head massage, aromatherapy shampoo, and all the frills of a fancy salon. But, I also will be the first to realize that it would be ridiculous to pay those prices so frequently. So, I go to Great Clips, and opt for the nicer salons every couple of months. I've never had a bad experience here, but you need to go in knowing a few things: -your haircut will last about 30minutes, and it won't be fully styled when you walk out -you won't get a shampoo, just wet it down -know your hair, and know what you done with it. -this is not the place to go for a completely new hairstyle, makeover, etc. You will not receive the personal attention or extra time it takes for that (but, if you need a trim, they can do it) -always pay with a coupon (check on local receipts, online, etc.) -you won't always get the same stylists, but they do this a ton and are professionals If you're cool with all the above, go for it. If you're one that likes more personal attention and complicated cuts and styles, or consistency in a stylist, this is not the place for you. read more

I like this place for shallow reasons- it is very inexpensive. It was teetering on a 3 star, but the bargain is reliable and so are the stylists. I know I can get a quick $10 hair cut using one of the many coupons I acquire from Tuesday ads or Meijer receipts. The customer service is something to be desired, but I'm a no frills kind of person when it comes to hair, and frankly if it is cut properly I don't really need stylist-customer conversation or an elaborate washing and product. I'm a girl but I like my hair short and androgynous, and she didn't bat an eye when I showed her the picture I wanted in the book of men's haircuts. Decent Haircuts for my kids. Good service from stylists. 1 star for bad customer service policies. I had my son's haircut (2/18/16) and received a $2 off coupon for my next visit. The very next day (2/19/16) I forgot the coupon at home so I asked the stylist to reprint my receipt. They refused to reprint my receipt and refused to credit me the $2 for the appt. I still tipped the stylists since they did a good job, however I blame the management for not putting the customer first in their policies. I've been to many great clips in west Michigan and central Virginia, and this one is by far the worst. It took her 8 minutes to scissor trim my entire head and clame that it was done. I like great clips - I'm a guy and my hair isn't complicated, and I've had some good haircuts at others in this chain. Typically your experience can vary vastly depending on who you get, so it is difficult to review. I'd say that consistently this location is WAY sub-par. The first time I went I got someone who didn't say a word - I'm not a talker, but I also would prefer someone to be polite. The hircut was ok, and if it wasn't I wasn't going to say anything for fear this disgruntled person would get their revenge on my head. The last, and final time, was the worst. I took my 5-year-old daughter with me, and she wanted her ends trimmed. Simple, and a nice father-daughter afternoon out. The wait was 45 minutes, and there we no seats. So we grabbed a starbucks (also no seats, gurr - single people with laptops hogging whole tables) and waited, sitting on the floor of the store. When it was our turn, they had neglected to put my daughter on the list! Ok, so she's a kid and we waited. Nope, she had to wait another 45 minutes - end of the line. That was the final straw. We went to the great clips on packard/stadium, walked right in, the people there were friendly and we had a great time. No not all great clips are bad, but this one is to be avoided at all costs. read more

The girls who work here are hit or miss, I really recommend Madison though. Out of all the ladies who work here she's the only one who has listened to exactly what I wanted and executed it. The woman who cut my hair today(granted it was late afternoon) was super short with me and never made any small talk with me, she said she was only gonna take a half inch off but took off more like an inch and a half off. I have gotten my haircut here multiple times and have never had any problems! It seems to be a busy salon and for only $13 dollars the cut has always turned out great! Make sure you go in with an open mind and a complete understanding of what you want! Its a quick trim up nothing extravagant basically you get what you pay for. Seeing as they don't do requests (which makes me sad) their notes system has definitely helped me because I can never remember what I get! Just remember if you want a more detailed cut and extra perky customer service this is probably not the place for you...try a full service salon where you PAY EXTRA but get more PERKS as well.
