Rock Out your Hair at Paula's Barber Shop-…read more A Hair-Stylist to the Rock Stars is sure damn hard to find in Ann Arbor- When I say "Rock Star Hair Stylist"- I'm talking about the kind of stylist who upon motioning you to her chair, can totally relate, understand, and sympathize with the emotional condition you and your hair are in. My new BFF is SinDerElla That is her trade mark name. Throughout the years I have been to EVERY kind of hair shop imaginable- "The up-scale-glass of wine in hand as they design your locks, the coupon offering chains such as Fantastic Sam's, the African American Parlors, the gay beautician's, the Beauty School's, and authentic barber shops-in my search for "The ONE" who I would want as a sista! I thinky that it was the Universe that put "rock and roll hair by SinDerElla" in my path this time for a serious hair style intervention, I am thanking the Universe every morning upon checking out my "new morning look." All it took was for me to come clean to my rock -n-roll hair dresser about why my hair was in such emotional distress. This is very important to weed out the "real" from the "phony" beauticians- for sure. I explained to her that, "After being officially divorced, I got drunk, pulled out my scrap-booking scissors, placed a hand mirror between my thighs, and with drink in one hand and the scissors in the other cut away in the dark, and could have cared less how I looked in the morning." That is all it took, for a genuine, celebrity by night and indisputable Rocking beautician by day to grasp the locks of frustration I attempted to cut from my past. I knew by her response to my condition, that she would treat me with love, honor and respect- something I never got from any other stylist for being honest, or my ex-husband for that matter. A little about SinDerRella: * A Detroit Native. * TOURED WITH LA GUNS IN FILLMORE SLIM! * . t.h.e. MODFATHER AND HIS GROOVE COALITION * THE MASONS. * STORMY JANE. * AND MANY MORE DETROIT BANDS * APPEARED IN SEVERAL HORROR FILMS ..including to be released-"THE LITTLE RED DEVIL" STARRING DAN BALDWIN AS SATAN!" CHECK INTO WWW.THESKELETONFACTORY.COM FOR BEHIND THE SCENE PICS. If you are feeling frumpy, disgusted with your look, on the edge of freaking out over how God must be against you, I recommend stepping into Paula's Barber Shop in the Historic DePot Town in Ypsilanti, and allow SinDerElla to work her majic for a hot second. She will change your life! Tip her BIG.... The price for a hair cut is only $16.00... How you feel after-ward is priceless!

Feels superficial, not authentic, but a cheap haircut is what it is, but the whole atmosphere I…read morefeel is kind of pretentious about kinds of locals to accept. Also lazy, for example, I left a voice message when the shop was supposed to be open, and no one called me back -when I called to follow up the person acted like they could had cared less. No thanks, but good luck w/that,...

Update after owner response:…read more I want to clarify a few things in response to the owner's reply, because it does not reflect what happened. The conversation that led to this situation was not started by me. While I was in the chair, the discussion had already shifted into conspiracy topics. A client then came in and brought up the Israeli prime minister and his cancer, making comments expressing happiness about it. The tone of the conversation included laughter and engagement from others around, which made it extremely uncomfortable to sit through. As a Jewish customer, I felt put in a very difficult position, especially being mid-service and unable to simply step away. The direction of the conversation is what led me to speak up and say that I'm Jewish and that I didn't agree, even though I was genuinely nervous to do so. When I said that, there was a visible shift, people were caught off guard, apologized, and said they don't hate Jews, they "just hate him." That does not change what was said or how it came across in that moment. The owner was the one cutting my hair and was part of the conversation. When I said I needed to leave, I was already overwhelmed and in a state of panic. My hair was not finished, and I had to ask for clips to be removed so I could go. I then found myself at a locked door and had to wait to be let out, which added to the distress of the situation. I do want to be clear that I did verbally express myself strongly toward the end. I'm not denying that. My reaction came after everything I had just experienced, not before. The owner's response mentions creating a safe environment and staff feeling uncomfortable. I did not create that situation, I reacted to it. I was the one sitting in the chair while this conversation was happening around me. After I spoke up, the response included references to "Jewish support groups" and comparisons between Jewish people and the queer community that felt dismissive and out of place given the context.

I've been to this salon three times now since moving to Ann Arbor, after a friend recommended it…read moreand I'm so glad she did. I always book with Cameron Hawley, and honestly, he just gets hair. I don't trust many people with mine because it's taken me a long time to grow it out and take care of it, but he was the first person to cut it after two years of no trims, and I've been coming back every three months ever since. My hair has never felt better. I also brought my mom once, she wanted a short haircut, but Cameron made a better recommendation based on her face shape, and it turned out amazing. She left feeling so confident and beautiful! I've also been doing the strengthening treatment with my cuts, and it's made my hair noticeably healthier and shinier. This time around, I came in for a trim and a Keratin Express treatment, and the results were wowwwww. With all the rain lately, I usually get a ton of frizz, but this treatment actually works and is totally worth the hype. I also picked up a few products Cameron recommended including a mousse, an anti‑frizz serum, and a thermic treatment. Full disclosure: I'm a Kérastase lover and have been using the brand for years, but I didn't know about these specific treatments. Now I'm obsessed. My hair feels so smooth, glowy, and healthy. If you're picky about who touches your hair, Cameron is your guy. I couldn't be happier with the results every single visit!!!!

I was fortunate enough to have Mady Rupp, she matched my color perfectly, and was willing to give me a braided up do (it's 100 degrees today). Its price point is on par with a color job, no surprise, but also worth every penny. I'm so glad I stumbled in (got an appointment in one day)!
