Significant concerns about the work completed by Schwabees…read more Perhaps an indication of what was to come, I came home one day to find the pieces of my old fence sloppily strewn across a newly landscaped lawn. The other company working on my land stacked these pieces carefully in the street for hauling. The crew doesn't use tools for measuring, cutting or alignment. Cuts look like they were made with a butter knife. Heights were unmeasured and uneven. Basic fence construction tenets (adding a cross bar to prevent bowing) were not followed. The two gates drag on the ground. Odd placements of random pieces of wood gave a haphazard look to the work. While the individual people are pleasant, the work is not professionally done. Of most concern, the owners are either unaware or unconcerned about this. Ultimately, it is their responsibility to oversee the work, coach and develop their employees. The owners were on site for the work, so again, very disturbing that they would accept the quality as being passable. After multiple requests to right the situation, I was told the fence is done and any further work would be at my cost. My experience mirrors other reviews posted about Schwabees. I ended up paying another company to fix the work. I am very pleased with the corrections the other company was able to make and can now put this (expensive) chapter behind me. Schwabee's was unimpressive on all counts.

First off, I would never call someone 30 times back to back, as that would be harassment and should be dealt with by the authorities. I called about once or twice a week for several weeks either trying to leave a message (the mailbox was almost always full) or when I could leave a message I was trying to simply get an answer as to if Buckinghams was ever going to look at the fence issue and fix it. I have no idea how busy they are at any given moment, but it sure seems like a call back to a reliable customer wouldn't take that long. I knew I was going to have to pay to repair my fence, but I wanted my guy to fix it. Eventually I tried the email, as directed by their answering message when it changed, which was also met with no response. I finally contacted a construction friend of mine to come fix my fence, and when he dug up the posts we found that all three posts had less than 15 pounds of concrete in the ground and incredibly to me, none of these three posts had any concrete on the backside of the post. This meant all three posts rotted out in less than 4 years from bugs and moisture. I can still remember the first time I met Ross about 15 years ago and how he prided Buckinghams on their using something like 100 or 120 pounds of concrete per post to ensure the posts are set and long lived. That did not happen on these posts, and now I will have to spend some time this spring inspecting all the other posts on my fence to see if they were set correctly. Very disappointing.

This company was called out to my house to give a quote on replacing 6 split rails around the…read moreparameter of my house. They claimed that in order to replace them they would have to remove three posts and up to 480 pounds of concrete around the posts. They went on by claiming that if we had another third party fix the problem the they would revoke the warranty originally granted at the time of construction. Then they went on to say that we were in the process of constructing a retaining wall which may end up having to be removed to get the job done. This was inaccurate. The retaining wall was completed weeks before they came out to assess the split rails. So I called another company out and they finished the job in less than an hour for less than one third the cost quoted by Buckinghams. As a side note, the whole fence around my house was originally put in wrong in the first place. The posts were originally put in the wrong distance from the sidewalk.
