I first visited the office back in September 2025 after a serious injury to one of my fingers. I was extremely nervous about what would have to be done, but Dr Truluck and his staff very quickly got me set up for the surgery that I needed. I was given options for the surgery, one less invasive and one that would be more restrictive to me once healed. Dr Truluck did not pressure me toward one of these choices or the other. I elected for the less invasive surgery, which went well. At all of my follow ups, I was greeted with a smile by the lovely staff, and especially the radiology tech. I was always treated with respect and I felt welcomed as soon as I walked into the office. Everyone is extremely friendly, helpful, and thorough. I ended up doing the second more invasive surgery at a later date because my healing process was complicated. This was at no fault of the doctor. My second surgery was incredible. I have had no complications at all and my recovery has been smooth. I saw Dr Truluck today for the final time and was released to return to work, but only after I let him know that I was ready to go back. Dr Truluck does not pressure his patients one way or another to stay off work too long or to return too quickly. He listens to what he is told by his patients and he follows their lead as to what they feel comfortable doing and not doing. I could not recommend a surgeon or medical staff more than I recommend Dr Truluck and his staff. I would gladly go back for any hand related treatment in the future. read more

I was referred to Dr Truluck because I had a piece of glass in my pinky finger. He was less than compassionate about how much pain it was causing me but said he could remove it surgically. Went in for surgery, he said it went well, glass was completely gone, 5 stitches in my little finger. He opened it up, it must be gone, right? Months later, still in a lot of pain. I ended up pulling the glass out of my own finger. How could he miss this large piece?!? I think like other reviewers pointed out, he doesn't seem interested in doing a thorough job for his patients. Transferred 3 times, sent to the wrong department, routed back to the same, wrong department. Had to call back 3 times. They are obviously too busy to provide quality service. I went to this clinic in 2013, was recommended by a doctor. It was not the one I wanted a referral for. Wished I had never went here. I got a chop job on my wrist, if I was told what the procedure was I would have never had surgery. Since the surgery on my wrist, my shoulder, elbow and wrist has been a lot worse. The pain after surgery was so bad I didn't know if I would ever be able to use my hand again. I have tendons pulling the palm of my hand up. I can not flatten my hand out and I keep having spasms in my hand. Would not recommend Trueluck to anyone. read more

My experiences were NOT good with Dr. Wiiliam Truluck and his staff. Lack of good customer service is the starting point. I badly injured a tendon in my finger and needed corrective surgery. He spent most of the office visit talking about personal topics, since, as he put it, "these kinds of injuries are run of the mill, and I deal with it day in and day out." He had one post-operative review, while my hand was very swollen, and sent me to rehab. He never scheduled a follow-up office visit to see the full results of the surgery and how the rehab was progressing. The results? The finger is operational, but "sags" against another finger. On a 1-10 scale, I'd give my results a 5. OK, but could have been functionally better. What was really shocking was when I went back to him 6 months later, for an injury to my pinkies (mallet finger, whereby the tips get bent backwards). When I came in, he had no interest in even LOOKING at the finger he had performed surgery on 6 months earlier! Keep in mind, he had NEVER SEEN the results of his surgery except once, while it was red and swollen and non-functional. He made a joke about me having bad luck with finger injuries, and then proceeded to get a nurse assistant to show me how to place a splint on my pinkies. The nurse totally botched the instructions, and seemed impatient as I could not use the wrap and small metal splint effectively to keep the tip of the finger immobilized. Bottom line? In the next 6 weeks, I had numerous setbacks as the splint came off at the worst moments, and my finger would bend and the healing would have to start all over again. Staff seemed annoyed when I called in with problems. Eventually I went online, and discovered a $5 plastic splint, looking like a tiny canoe, that worked far better than some 1970's style metal splint that barely stays on the finger. The instructions for healing mallet finger were far better online than what Great Lakes Hand Surgery Center provided. In fact, there were great free handouts and graphics online that served as a checklist for ensuring a solid recover with full use of my pinkies. Bottom line? I would NEVER use the services of Dr. William Truluck or his Center. Its my opinion that he is operating almost on "automatic mode" considering the repetitive nature of the kinds of injuries he treats, so he needs stimulation in the office by excessive personal chatting. To me, he seemed clearly bored with mundane, routine finger injuries. Its his bread and butter income, but its not interesting to him, so he kind of tunes out. His staff was not well-trained -- requesting information and documents for insurance reimbursement was apparently a huge pain for the Office Manager, who also seemed irritated often, and they charged an exorbitant fee to receive a copy of about 15 pages of my medical file . It also took 2 months to get the required documents, with calls from both the insurance company and myself. Additionally, the nursing staff also seems to operate in a repetitive and non-individualized manner, and does not provide adequate training and information, all of which is now easily available online. I believe he is a victim of his own success. Any surgeon that takes no pride or care in the work he's done -- and reveals it by NOT ASKING about the status of the finger he had operated on, doesn't ask to see its movement range or functionality, doesn't ask about pain ... from my perspective its a virtual breach of the Hippocratic Oath. I will go online to find a hand surgeon, if ever needed again, and look at reviews to ensure a better selection for medical care and treatment. read more

Dr Truluck fixed my hand two years ago and I had a great experience all the way around. I have referred them multiple times. Now the other hand is having similar pain and I asked for a referral to this office. I was just told that they declined to accept me as a patient as I called in after the last surgery and asked why the co pay amount was not disclosed in advance. The staff added that I hung up and said things I never said. This has been documented in my chart. I am flabbergasted that calling to ask a valid question was documented as I was irate and hung up. This is absolutely untrue and now I am denied care because someone decided to embellish a conversation. I guess I should be glad to avoid this discrimination and drama moving forward. read more
