My sweet friend Savanna is quite the Sun Goddess in the picnic area of The Great Lawn

Whimsical Walks In The Grass & Sand In Beautiful Pompano Beach SITREP Just north of Ft. Lauderdale, lies this beautiful stretch of beach, with white sands, salty air, and the rhythmic crashing of the waves.... THE SETUP The Great Law, as it is called, is because it is a multi-purpose area that can be utlized for festival, and day events where people can stroll on the grassy lawn adjacent to the beach. And yet with the beach so close, it is easy to sprint off quickly to the sand as well! CONCESSIONS & REFRESHMENT There is a nice picnic table to chill & relax as well, and catch some refreshments! http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/great-lawn-pompano-beach?select=uMjVsPqChXt3EMF_7SC26w NIGHT STROLLS But the funny thing is, as much as I LOVE getting sunburned on the beach during the day - and this beach is no exception - this has been one of the most transcendent sandy points I've enjoyed in the continental 48 states that is PERFECT for a midnight stroll by oneself, or with a friend or two. While here on my last Ft. Lauderdale trip in December, I was able to enjoy not just one, but TWO midnight strolls in fact! The Milky Way is panoramic here, and this was the spot where I first enjoyed really using my smartphone app "Skyview", because the astronomical views were breathtaking here. THE LOWDOWN The perfect beach spot for NIGHT!

    Snack Bar alongside the beach.

Great place to chill or bbq. There are several pavilions that people can rent. Or open areas where people can set up their own tents.

It feels much more relaxed and less crowded than Fort Lauderdale Beach. Right across from the beach, the main strip along Commercial Blvd has a bunch of restaurants, bars, ice cream spots, and small local shops. It's very walkable and has that classic laid-back Florida beach town vibe. We loved just strolling around after the beach, grabbing food, and enjoying the atmosphere. If you want a quieter, charming beach area with plenty to do but without the chaos, this is definitely worth visiting.

Hillsboro Beach is a tiny Florida coastal town set on a peninsula between the Intracoastal and the…read moreAtlantic Ocean. Interestingly it has a connection to English nobility. The town was named after the Earl of Hillsborough, who was given land in Florida from the King of England after the First Treaty of Paris was signed where England gave up Cuba and the Philippines to Spain in exchange for receiving Florida. Hillsboro also has a rich history with the Barefoot Mailmen. The Barefoot Mailmen were eleven US postal workers who delivered the mail in South Florida from 1885 to 1893 by walking barefoot on the beach from Palm Beach to Miami. Before the mailman started the route, a letter from Lake Worth to Miami could take anywhere from 6 weeks to 6 months to arrive and would be routed through Cuba. The annual salary of a Barefoot Mailman was $600 a year. The trip started on Monday and took three days to get to Miami, Then they would turn around and come back for a round trip of 136 miles. Eighty miles were walking and fifty six miles were by boat. The three day trek down the coast was not without it's danger. You can find a Barefoot Mailman statue in front of the Hillsboro town hall dedicated to James "Ed" Hamilton who mysteriously vanished in 1897 while crossing the Hillsboro Inlet. The mystery of what happened to Hamilton is fascinating. Was he eaten by an alligator, killed by native people, or did he drown? No one will ever know. Although Hillsboro Beach is small in size at only a little over three miles and 900 miles at its widest point, it has a lot of charm. The only road through town is A1A and here it is nicknamed Millionaire's Mile for the mansions that line it. The most prominent feature of the town is the 1907 Hillsboro Lighthouse which you can tour monthly with the Lighthouse Preservation Society. The beaches in town are all private. You can go to North Ocean Beach Park in Pompano Beach to the south or Deerfield Beach Park to the north. Hillsboro Inlet Park is a nice place to picnic and get a great view of the lighthouse. I always enjoy driving through this stretch of A1A when heading up the coast.

As I sat there, emotional and vulnerable, a woman approached me. At first, I was startled, but then she spoke. She said, "This may sound weird, and I've never done this before. I even asked God, 'What am I supposed to do? Just go up to her?'" My eyes began to water as I listened. She continued, "Whatever problem you are going through or what I'm asking for God wanted me to let you know that I will get what I'm asking for. He wants you to know that you will be alright. I'm sorry, I don't know why He told me to tell you this." We both began to cry. I replied, "God did want you to give me that message, because I just finished asking Him in prayer to help me, and through you, He replied." We were both overwhelmed by the miracle that had just happened. We hugged tightly, and I thanked her deeply. This experience is proof that if you maintain a pure heart during difficult times and don't allow negativity or evil to take hold God will ensure you know He is right there with you, listening, along with His angels. I needed this today. Thank you... and thank you, Pete, I know you will help Him. Amen. Amen.

My contact at the town, however, told me that the grassy area used to be a parking lot years ago and most of the amenities were added within the last ten years. There's resident permit parking right out front and metered parking just across the street. As you walk along the sidewalk there are colorfully painted Adirondack chairs -- two per -- under umbrellas. And a shade pavilion with chairs. At the beach entrance are various signs with information. No dogs are allowed nor is cigarette smoking on the beach. The park is open 7 am - 10 pm. There's a display with life jackets hanging from it in case someone needs to borrow one. And some info re rip currents and water safety. Two shower towers are at the entrance, too. There are bottom water spouts for washing the sand off your feet after the beach, as well. One of the nicest things was the beach access path. There are two entrances to the beach and one is covered in a hard mesh -- perfect for wheel chairs or wheeled carts or if you have trouble walking. I took a short walk out to the beach itself. It's wide with clean, white sand here. Mid week it wasn't busy with visitors. Talk about a "chamber of commerce" picture! I couldn't resist taking a short video. We truly live in paradise and this park proves it.

Similar to a car you need to be 16 to drive one so my 11 year old daughter was on the back of mine and my 6 and 9 year old sons joined my husband. We met Dominic at the Pioneer Park- boat ramps in Deerfield Beach. Please note that this location is different than the address on the Yelp review since we were a bit confused ourselves. We started off slow getting used to the jet skis and also admiring the beautiful homes on the intercoastal. Then for about 30-45 minutes we got to go as fast as we could zipping over massive waves and holding on for dear life. I thought we were speed demons, but my thrill seeking daughter kept yelling at me that I wasn't going fast enough. My 9 year old son did fall off the back of my husband's jet ski, but he claimed that was the most fun part of the excursion. .And Dominic was nearby the entire time to help out in these situations and more, but overall we felt very safe. 1.5 hours was perfect and everyone had a great time. They declared it their favorite day in South Florida and made us promise we'll rent jet skis again on a future trip. Done!
