Very nice local Shiraz- the stout and beer that were local were also VERY good - hence the three stars

We overnighted in Apollo Bay on our GOR Tour. We were tired and ready for a good meal, a couple of drinks and some fun. There are two pubs in Apollo Bay, the first we stopped at (forgot the name) we bumped into the owner who was super nice and told us they had just updated the menu for their summer hours the day before and the revolving electronic menu on the front was not available. We were excited until we noticed the prices from the electronic one to the new one had increased dramatically some as much as nearly $10 per main dish. We walked on. We ended up at the GOR Brewhouse (more hotel like in vibe than a reg pub) and headed in, it was even advertising live music! Turned out that the barkeeps weren't really friendly - all business in fact, unless one of their mates popped in and they would chat and joke with them about their days, pretty much ignoring the visitors etc. We tried some local brews at the bar and then ordered two porterhouse steaks. Now granted anyone from North or South America or Japan probably should know better than to order steaks out of continent but we did it. It was a very small equivalent of a USDA select NY Strip or sirloin with sauce or gravy to disguise it. Oh well at least there should have been good music, right? Wrong! The two hours we were there he played ONE song (I kid you not - not two, not three, ONE) and of all songs it was The Devil went Down to GA! . Ahh well.

Chicken Schnitzel

Definitely the most popular restaurant in the area for a reason. There is a ton of space, indoor and outdoor, with tvs, pool tables, patios, live music, and of course great food and drink. They start serving dinner at 6, but they are open earlier than that for drinks. I ordered the chicken schnitzel and it was great. It came with a side salad, as well as a massive amount of fries. The chicken was still juicy and the breading was nicely seasoned to give the dish flavor, even without adding any gravy or sauce. I also ordered the Summer Ale and it was very refreshing. Wasn't too hoppy or filling, perfect for a relaxing dinner. Definitely on the pricy side for all the options on the menu, but worth it.

Fresh fish of the day: grilled gemfish with salad, chips, and pineapple relish.

Went to this place a couple of nights ago and got the Parma. It tasted and looked like a microwaved Parma, not impressed for $28.

I'm not quite sure if I have managed to visit every one of these hotels yet but I suspect that I am…read moregetting close to it. I have to admit that I am somewhat impressed with their evolution over time, namely in regards to the beers that are available, and the fact that they have raised the concept of a sports bar to a new level, namely that they feel much better to sit down with a drink, and a lot less sleazy, that others. Of course, one of the main things that sets them apart is the fact that they pretty much has no pokies.

It's a 3.2. Stopped for a quick drink after an appointment (and, before anyone starts drawing…read moreconclusions I have at least three AFDs a week. This is an interest not a lifestyle). The fitout of this sports bar didn't do a lot for me. A bit grey and dull, I reckon. The scotches on offer were a bit pedestrian. I chose a Glenfiddich which was ok but as always no standout performer. Service was just ok here without any real warmth or human interest. I actually prefer the pokies pub up the road - and I momentarily forget its name - despite the fact that I detest pokies. The atmosphere is better there. The staff have been lovely there when I've visited. Tim E's review encourages me to discount thoughts of ever eating at the Sporting Club. In the end the only thing I really liked was the name of the place although a person I trust likes this place. Such is life. PS - I later remembered the name of the pub up the road. It's called The Vine. The front bar is called The Vineyard. In all of Melbourne there's not a place that looks less like a vineyard.

Well, it would be unfair to call this a pokies pub, particularly since they also happen to have a…read morerestaurant, but honestly, I really don't like the place. I guess, when compared to all the other places along Brunswick street, this place simply doesn't compare one bit. In a way, it feels as if it really would be more suited to being in the outer suburbs as opposed to being here on Sydney Road, but then again I guess that the people that would frequent a place like this would need a place that aren't swarmed with the young and the hip, and blasting out live music. Oh, and don't expect a decent selection of tap beers either, there aren't any.

Great atmosphere and welcoming friendly staff... Typically I decided to have the Classic Chicken Parmigiana, highly recommend, and my friend had the Mexican Parmigiana, has jalapenos, also highly recommend. Reasonably priced, and I would recommend asking about accommodating children. If you knew me, I've had parmigiana at more than a few venues in Melbourne, Australia, the Classic Chicken Parmigiana lived up to the others I've had, the chicken was perfectly cooked. The venue I recommend to locals and tourists alike - FIVE STARS
