This place was awesome, but then again brew pubs that brew great beer are always going to be like that around me, and this place is no exception. Sure, it is a country pub, but it is one of those pubs located on one of the more touristy parts of the country, namely the Great Ocean Road. There is a rather large outdoor area, befitting of such a pub, and they have some great beers on tap as well. A place well worth checking out, and even stopping by for a drink. read more

This was the largest restaurant I saw in Australia.... The restaurant has a huge dining room like places in the US. The beer was good, so that was an upside. The food was....not amazing. I had the seafood pasta and it just didn't live up to what I had been getting in other restaurants. That being said, this was pretty much the only open restaurant that we saw, so I was thankful to have somewhere to eat. read more

We overnighted in Apollo Bay on our GOR Tour. We were tired and ready for a good meal, a couple of drinks and some fun. There are two pubs in Apollo Bay, the first we stopped at (forgot the name) we bumped into the owner who was super nice and told us they had just updated the menu for their summer hours the day before and the revolving electronic menu on the front was not available. We were excited until we noticed the prices from the electronic one to the new one had increased dramatically some as much as nearly $10 per main dish. We walked on. We ended up at the GOR Brewhouse (more hotel like in vibe than a reg pub) and headed in, it was even advertising live music! Turned out that the barkeeps weren't really friendly - all business in fact, unless one of their mates popped in and they would chat and joke with them about their days, pretty much ignoring the visitors etc. We tried some local brews at the bar and then ordered two porterhouse steaks. Now granted anyone from North or South America or Japan probably should know better than to order steaks out of continent but we did it. It was a very small equivalent of a USDA select NY Strip or sirloin with sauce or gravy to disguise it. Oh well at least there should have been good music, right? Wrong! The two hours we were there he played ONE song (I kid you not - not two, not three, ONE) and of all songs it was The Devil went Down to GA! . Ahh well. read more

Definitely the most popular restaurant in the area for a reason. There is a ton of space, indoor and outdoor, with tvs, pool tables, patios, live music, and of course great food and drink. They start serving dinner at 6, but they are open earlier than that for drinks. I ordered the chicken schnitzel and it was great. It came with a side salad, as well as a massive amount of fries. The chicken was still juicy and the breading was nicely seasoned to give the dish flavor, even without adding any gravy or sauce. I also ordered the Summer Ale and it was very refreshing. Wasn't too hoppy or filling, perfect for a relaxing dinner. Definitely on the pricy side for all the options on the menu, but worth it. read more

Had the grilled gemfish daily fresh catch ($29) and it came with chips, salad, and pineapple relish. Overall, pretty good dish. Fish was fresh, salad was bright after squeezing some lemon on it. They have a large variety of local beers and wines. I had a unique apple and mango cider that was really yummy. Service isn't bad but a little slow with only 2-3 servers running the entire dining room. Large outdoor patio for warm summer nights. read more

Went to this place a couple of nights ago and got the Parma. It tasted and looked like a microwaved Parma, not impressed for $28.

We popped in for dinner as we liked the look of the menu - and ended up also enjoying some wonderful local craft beers! The 'roo and beef steak were cooked wonderfully and very tasty - good quality produce. The selection of drinks is very good and, being a beer lover, I was very pleased to see not only a good range of craft beers but also that they were local. Well worth sampling! Just don't drive afterwards... ;o) The indoors area is a large size and seemed to lean more towards the younger clientele - pool table, TVs for sport etc. But don't let that put you off if you're looking for a more family oriented place - sitting in the spacious outside area on a balmy summer's evening was spot on. Good food, great beer, a chilled atmosphere and not at all noisy. There's portable gas heaters which easily take care of any chilly sea breezes. read more

A bit pricey for the beers, as we have learned that here down under the higher abv beers cost more. They had a good selection of beers and I love that some of the proceeds of certain drinks support conservation efforts of Aussie animals. The setting is relaxed and I can imagine it gets pretty crowded on the weekends. read more

Fabulous find in the main drag of Apollo. The Brewhouse is much more of a pub/bistro than I though, based off the photos of food I saw online before booking - meaning that I was delighted in the quality of the menu in such relaxed surrounds. I ordered the porterhouse, which I never really do because I don't trust anyone to undercook my meat to my picky standard except my Mother. Well, I wasn't disappointed. It was delicious and excellently prepared. I went with the salad and chips and garlic butter because, yum. Husband went for the Wagyu and was very happy. Prickly Moses is on tap. Prices were good for the quality and staff were lovely, happy to take a reservation over the phone earlier that day. I liked that the eating area was situated up stairs, with an overview of the pub, felt a bit fancy :-) Our meal was interrupted in the best way when the entire lower section broke out in a joyful football-related cheer, making for a fun atmosphere. Was too cold to sit outside, but I was delighted to see the old colourful school chairs in the courtyard. Would visit again and would advise you to as well. Only request would be a few gluten free dessert items on the menu, like a choccy mousse maybe? I wouldn't have been able to fit it in, but I do like to try my best! read more

Place was great! Warm and friendly! We grab two different types of beers. Both were Otways, very nice. calamari was wonderful, not over kill on fried bread. I had a chef special roo stew, amazing! My mom ordered the chicken breast with pesto sauce and veggies, hers was delicious as well. We loved the food! Sadly we were to full from our mains for dessert. But I heard the house made pudding, boom so great! read more
