I'm not sure how I totally missed this spot! I used to be in Clinton a lot for work and finally got a chance to do a dinner here. It's BEAUTIFUL. Such a cool spot to walk around and explore. The waiters told us some really cool stories too. Service was great all night. They have a good cocktail menu (especially for Clinton) - this isn't mixology but they do make some pretty tasty options. They also have a really awesome beer menu with some fantastic sours. The food was great. We got a couple starters that were recommended and they were all fantastic. I got a salad for dinner and it was huge and had really great flavor. Very good service and the food was fantastic. The parking was street side. The restrooms were down about 6 step which was a bit of a problem. One person at the table had a Reuben and tater tots and the other had Westcoast Cali and truffle fries. They were both outstanding. read more

Dare I say the COOLEST part of Clinton? This is a must-visit! The Great Revivalist Brewery is a gorgeous setting. The stained glass windows are so vibrant, the beams, the medieval feel, tables, etc... makes for a very fun atmosphere you could spend lots of time in. The basement has lots of room to watch games and hang out as well! Plus, the food is fantastic and the service is top notch! For anyone going for their first time, order the tot-chos! Located inside Clinton's beloved Gothic Revivalist Church,this brewery offers a one of a kind experience. As you step inside,you have to admire the stunning architecture and famous artwork lining the walls. You are seated by a hostess and are given a menu of many craft brews,sodas,seltzers and energy drinks. They even offer THC infused lemonades. I started with a flight of 3 beers.. Recreational Red Ale,1898 American Lager and Peach Wrangler Sour Ale..all were very flavorful and reasonably priced For our food choices I had the Bac N Chz Bites which were cheese curds with bacon and a raspberry Chipotle dipping sauce. My wife who is Gluten Free had the Carnivore Wood Fired Pizza with house made sausage, pepperoni,capicola, prosciutto and red onions. Unfortunately this is why I'm only giving this brewery 4 stars and not 5. The pizza was just average at best and all the ingredients were in the middle of the pie and nothing around the edges. The menu descriptions were better than the flavors themselves in our opinion. Cheese curds were lacking in flavor even with the sauce . Our server was very unfriendly and never came back to see how everything was. For beers and unique atmosphere this place is 5 stars but for service and food quality I'm afraid they only get 4 stars. read more

Take me to church! Reviving old churches into brewpubs and restaurants is a popular thing now and they did a great job with the decor in this one. It's a mix of traditional and old with industrial and it works. The drinks were the highlight. I didn't care for the food or the service. The Great Revivalist is a great set-up...except the kitchen. The indoor and outdoor space is top notch, particularly for a tough river town like Clinton. Word to the wise--enjoy the scenery since youll habe plenty of time to do it while you wait on your food. We ordered a couple beers during the Book of Genesis, and our food didnt arrive until Revelations. C'mon, and burger and pizza shouldn't take over 45 minutes on a night the place was, maybe, 20% full. Our server was good, but the kitchen let her down. The food itself is above average for the area. Tough part about Revivalist is if they did 10% more on the outside space (the gardens were full of 6 foot high weeds) and gave 10% more focus on food quality and delivery, it would be 100% better. If you're stuck in Clinton, it's your best bet. If you're making a trip to Clinton to check it out, cancel the trip and go to LeClaire or Savannah...nicer river towns with better dining options. read more

Five stars for the vibe High three or low four on beer It was worth the drive I have been in a brewery that was a chapel and one that was a mortuary, but I think this is the first one I have been to that was a full blown church. Saw a YouTube video on this place a couple weeks ago and decided that I must get there at some point. Some point came yesterday. Five and a half hour drive from the Twin Cities with no stops. The drive through northeastern Iowa is surprisingly scenic. Had a blonde and three IPA's. They ranged from 3.75 to 4.25 on my Untappd ratings. Got the spinach artichoke skillet appetizer. It was solid. Staff was friendly. One drawback is no TVs if you are wanting to watch a game. Worth giving them a shot if you are within a couple hours of it. Five and a half might have been a little excessive, but for a beer geek like me - worth it. read more

Had a group event here today. Found out they sold to another place called 7 Hills. They take over on October 1st. With new menus starting October 7th. We ordered to share a Ruben and truffle fries. Also tried there amber beer, very good He sandwiched and fries were very good and hot, as in not sitting waiting to be served. As there were 18 of us in the group, I feel , this makes the service level even better. Multiple beverage orders and food orders and not one complaint from anyone. Amazing use of a beautiful building. We came for a late Saturday lunch and had great service from Victoria. I enjoyed the Thai Chili Pork - requested no BBQ. Delicious. Love this gorgeous brewery. We discovered it last year. Had a cider on draft Saturday night and husband has a beer at the bar. Went back for dinner last night and loved it. They didn't have enough staff. But staff they did have were hustling. I had a mule with the house made ginger beer and gluten free pizza. Chris had a grouper sandwich and a beer. Food was good. We will be back next time we make it to Clinton. I hope they have wheelchair access up to the main dining room by then. This is the best church I have ever been too! This brewery has a mix of their brews and others. If you like a grapefruit IPA, then I'd suggest their Sticky Kitty. After a long work week, we were really looking forward to a great meal in a fun setting. So we decided to head to The Great Revivalist Brewery.. The service by Seth was excellent and the ambiance, always fun! When I speak of this brewery to people, I always say -- Hey! Let's stop at church & have a cocktail!! (Sorry Jesus !!).. And tonight was no different. Tonight, I wanted to try something new. So the hubs and I ordered 2 different pizzas, so we can try each others. His looked & tasted UH-MAZING!! It was a slice of Heaven!! MINE? I ordered a pie with multiple Italian meats, called the Carnivore.. Wow!! WHAT A DISAPPOINTMENT.. I think I was stunned when the server brought it to the table -- and actually left it. The pizza was over cooked to say the least. The pizza was brown. Yes, brown -- the entire pizza, BROWN. The cheese was so hard and dry, it was a challenge to bite into and chew. I would have sent back, but I didn't want to wait another 30/45 mins.. I have to say, after paying our bill @ $16 per pizza and beverages -- what a disappointment!! If there is a next time, I will definitely say something and send back. I'm giving a 2 because the hubs at least got to enjoy his dinner. Just please don't send out dry, over cooked, brown pizzas!! read more

My mom and I stopped by here today on our vacation. -This building was so beautiful inside! It is located inside an old church with plenty of stuff to look at, from the lights to the piano in the middle of the restaurant. On a warmer day, the outside area has a large fountain in the center and looks like it would be wonderful. -We ordered a fried chicken and reuben sandwiches and wings (both very good) with tater tots as the side (also very good). -The waitress was super kind, don't know what else to say. Strongly recommend, especially if you're passing through Clinton. I was struggling on choosing a place before we entered town and this place was definitely a win. read more

Great Revivalist Brewing Company is located in downtown Clinton, Iowa, in a former church which was built in 1898. The church has been refurbished and re-configured to house a restaurant, bar/taproom and the brew-house, which opened in the spring of 2023. The result is a beautiful space in which to dine and enjoy a beverage. Inside the main building, the key elements of the interior have been retained including the stained-glass windows which date back to the 1970s and a 1911 Italian mosaic that fills the rear wall of the building so that it immediately catches your eye as you enter through the front door. Many of the church's pews have been re-purposed as tables and a pool table and pizza oven have been installed. My wife and I spent the evening at the brewery and enjoyed sampling several different beers and some very good food. I started with a Parish Pale Ale, which was fresh and clean with a crisp bitterness and a good hoppy flavor. I then had a Cloud Trippin' Hazy New England IPA. This was a deliciously juicy beer with lots of citrusy and fruity flavors. To round off the evening, as it is that time of year, I had an Amen Stout which was smooth and flavorful with lots of coffee flavor supported by a subtle background of chocolate. My wife enjoyed the 1898 American lager which is light and crisp. For an appetizer we had their mussels which were very tasty and then I had their Fire Braised Short Ribs and my wife had the Mahi St. Tacos. All of the food was served beautifully and hot and was very flavorful and enjoyable. Tia, our server was very attentive and helpful, adding to our overall enjoyment. The church basement provides additional space and they have a very large beer garden/patio area outside which would be very nice on a warmer day. This is a great brewery with very good beers and food served in a beautiful environment with so many pieces of art to admire. We had a great visit and I would highly recommend a visit to others. We don't drink alcohol,but they make the most wonderful soda pop,and it's very good. Food is very good staff is great, but it's a bit expensive that is the only thing we find little off is the cost. I love the place, the food is very good, the brewery is very top notch and the location is really cool. What I have a problem with is the service, I believe the owners underestimated the needed space for the bar area, seems like the bartender is always busy doing something besides pouring or making drinks. If they could improve the service end of things I would change my rating to a 5, but until that happens I won't upgrade them.
