They spent a great amount of time just teaching us a few tricks to help train our very active, spastic dog. This was very kind, and made a difference. Our only bad experience has been with their people skills, as when our cat broke her leg a second time (because the original surgery was not successful) they hounded us to get her leg chopped off or to have another bout of surgery we couldn't afford. We firmly believed she was healing on her own, and she did. She's happy as anything and walking fine! They apologized when they realized how well she was doing, but would've been nice of them to take our word for it. So I would recommend these guys as great vets, but wary of this particular fault.

I remember being super appreciative when one of their vets made a home call to put down our beloved 16 yr old black labby, Molly. Or, on a lighter note, when I took our Scottish Terrier cross, Lulu in for a clip and they didn't even bat an eyelid when she pooped on the floor. I was mortified. As well as having wonderful vets, Pet & Vet also have a good range of food including raw options for cats and dogs. There's toys, carry cages, leads etc as well. They even have a cattery for when you go on Holiday. Just make sure your cats vaccinations are up to date at least two weeks before you leave.

We are lucky to have the services of a very experienced dog trainer who looks after our puppy pre-school classes which run on Wednesdays. Also being a vet nurse myself, there are certain ways to hold cats depending on what needs to be assessed or medicated etc. As it was to do with the ears, you actually do have to put quite a bit of restraint to get medication in there. With cats, they may be fine with the owner but when it comes to a stranger, it's quite difficult to hold the animal in place AS WELL as medicate accordingly without causing any harm to ourselves or the patient. They are well known as exotic specialists. So best place to take your small animals, birds, reptiles, rodents etc. I go to mt albert pet doctors (which are now based at Lynfield Pet Doctors or the new exotic referral center in St Lukes) and trust them completely with my fur babies.

So, when the time was needed, my poor big boof of a cat needed some treatment for his ears I went on in on a weeknight. The reception staff were friendly and helpful but the Vet himself was not. He didn't introduce himself and was a bit rough handling of my boy, (defensive mother coming out). Since it was our first visit there, impressions were important. I had to push for information from the guy and the medicine I got was treatment that upon reading the label said "to be used as a last resort only", a highly dangerous anti-biotic. I tried to exercise compassion for the Vet doctor, thinking maybe he is just over worked and under paid, or has something going on in his private life, but none the less I am a bit cautious of going back there. Hence the reason I almost gave this rating two stars only. They have recently informed me that they have changed their name, it use to be called Mount Albert Vet Hospital, preferring to be listed as 'Pet Doctor's Mt Albert'.

Dr. Chris is the sole vet and he tends to all the animals. I really like this about the Normanby vets because it's always the same person looking after your pet. We have returned here with our cat ever since the free neutering day and we have always been really happy with the care our cat receives and the prices. This vet doesn't seem focused on profit like some others I have been to in the past. Their website is also really thoughtful offering tips and advice on how to care for your pets from fireworks to ageing to weight control it just shows they are always looking to help.

Both the vets here are lovely and have the combination of skill and friendliness you want in a vet. Sue is caring and seems to love animals, and always makes you feel reassured your pet is in good hands. The newer vet, is a younger lady but seems to know exactly what she is doing. And I liked that she remembered my dog when after not having come in for a few months. The nurses are always helpful when you call and will give you advice. It's a busy vet, which I prefer, but they'll always squeeze you in. I also left my cat in the cattery for a couple of nights and he was well taken care of after he had a big operation. Great people.

Instead, upon a recommendation from my neighbor's landlord I decided to give Toko's Dogs a ring. Left a message, was called back immediately, and my little Tilly was booked in for the next morning. Toko and her staff are truly trained professionals and after the 3-hour session, Tilly came out looking, smelling, and feeling like a million bucks! I was given a $10 voucher for the next full groom, a loyalty card (10th groom is free!), and a little adorable bow in Tilly's hair. Price is very competitive to the market standard, facilities are clean/temperature controlled, and very accommodating. I have a small dog and so can only really vouch for the grooming skills for small dogs.

There was one time he was given a 'lion cut' like that was in trend for small dogs or something and he looked like Simba from the Lion King. Well now he goes to Barkley Manor and he really enjoys his time there. The staff fuss over him and they always do such a great job of his grooming, he smells fantastic, ears are so beautifully shaped, his paws, his claws trimmed, a nice cut and they listen. Listening is important, us humans don't like bad haircuts so why give your dog a bad haircut? I got them to give him a mohawk once and he looked like he had serious attitude. Barkley Manor don't just shave dogs, they style dogs and they do a damn good job. Make sure you book in advance, like 3 appointments in advance, they are so good that they are that busy, all the time.

The dogs get large pens and they are always clean and look well taken care of. The pets themselves don't seem very young, so if you're looking for a new baby puppy or bunny, I'd look elsewhere. Good thing about them is they sell puppies and kittens on behalf of the SPCA. Their staff seem like animal lovers who know a little bit about pets, but not people who know a lot. I've been bunny hunting this weekend and was disappointed they only had two bunnies, and they were pretty big.

Initially I called Pet Stop, unfortunately they did not have raw pet food, only the freeze dried treats. The sales clerk did suggest I call Amimates, as they are a larger shop and would have more variety. Once I called I spoke with a young man who was very friendly, knowledgeable about their products and patient with my questions. He provided a few options of raw food and dry food then gave me the store hours. Seeing as I had just picked up my dog from quarantine, I needed to get food for him. This shop is the equivalent to a smaller version of Petco in the States. It has all the major food brands (of New Zealand), along with flea treatments, toys, beds and other pet essentials. The staff is very friendly and helpful and of course they loved Titus. Although I prefer smaller Mom & Pop shops, this one will do for now.

There are in store specials, buy 2 get 1 free sort of thing and other discounts and offers that you would not get from a smaller pet store. This place is usually mega busy, especially on the weekends. Three cool things about this pet store, 1) you can take your pet inside on a lead so they can come shopping with you 2) they have a store cat that hangs out in the fish and aquarium section and 3) the staff give out treats to your dog.
