Greater Nevada Credit Union is running a SCAM! I read an article once that warned people about this, but I never imagined it would happen to me, especially not with a credit union. I called them last week and spoke to a representative about my rv loan. I told them I would be calling in to make my next payment when I got paid on Tuesday September 8th, the day after the Labor Day bank holiday. They said that would be acceptable and never mentioned that I would need to make a payment sooner. I called on the day they had agreed to for the payment, Tuesday September 8th, to make my payment. They said that I couldn't make the payment because they had assigned the loan for repossession. What??? I asked to speak to a manager about this and was told that a manager would call me by the end of the day. No one called. They tried to ignore me. The next day I had to call again and asked to speak to a manager. Again, I was told that a manager would call me by the end of the day. I finally received a call back. I have spoken to three people there about this situation, and they're all refusing to do anything about it or even admit that they've done anything wrong. They all just try to change the subject and talk about things that aren't even relevent to the situation. The last person I spoke to was Patty Chang, the Sr. Vice President of Risk and Operations. She talked about an auto loan that I paid off and a missed payment in May 2024, over 2 years ago, which has nothing to do with the current situation. She kept making up reasons and excuses instead of answering my complaint about their miscommunication, all of which doesn't explain why they lied to me when I first called to schedule the payment. No one will take accountability or be responsible for the situation they've put me in. Now I'm being penalized for their mistake. In the article I read, it said this can happen when someone who works at a loan company wants the opportunity to purchase a vehicle for a small fraction of it's normal value after it gets taken from the owner. They "arrange" for the property to be taken so they can buy it when it gets auctioned off. This is a SCAM! I didn't think a loan company could do something like that, but apparently they can. The higher levels of management in this organization need to know what they're doing to me. Someone needs to answer for this situation. I've been making payments on this loan for over 4 years, and now they're trying to take my vehicle with their scam. read more

Just to clarify: the review I previously wrote about Greater Nevada was mostly about this branch. High turnover, and people that mostly don't care. Today I actually saw a grown man cry with frustration about something with his mother's account. Don't know any of the details, but have had plenty of frustration with these guys myself. The Carson St. branch has nicer people, but I think ultimately the rot is deeper, more on the corporate level. read more

This bank has been one problem after another. My most recent interaction was me leaving this institution... Thank goodness for it too. i refinanced my vehicle through another bank. GNCU tranfered the title which somehow was still a california title. my truck is registered nevada, this title is causing a problem with new bank and when i did the vin inspection still coming up registerd in california. In my quest to resolve this madness i was informed by a woman named Joy .. who is anything but... that GNCU didnt not want to spend the money to transfer the title during lending because its not cost effective for them. so now almost 3 years after owning this vehicle in nevada i am chasing paperwork and trying to resolve this with new bank and DMV due to GNCU inability to do things right. My largest complaint still has to be the most condescending conversation i have ever had with... Joy...just looking for answers and what to do lady. Just the worst.. Having been a customer for a couple years using the Carson and the Minden locations, I can say it's the worst bank I've ever dealt with, no doubt. Awful customer service, no call backs when requested, weird fees for not using my ATM at least 9 times per month and even worse when trying to close out my bank account and loan, (wanted $5 just to send a monthly statement after they shut off online access). Also annoying that as someone of Italian descent, they went woke and cancelled a Federal Holiday, (Columbus Day), and replaced it with Indigenous Day. (Gov. Joe Lombardo issued a proclamation designating Aug. 9 as Indigenous Peoples' Day in Nevada). When I asked about it on X support they blocked me lol. read more

I tried asking questions about a loan application over the phone and seemed to me like she didn't even want to speak to me. She ended the conversation very short and wasn't very detailed. I had a scheduled appointment to open a checking account and I was going to get a few CD's. I had to drive an hour for this appointment. When I walked in the front door, I was greeted by a young lady to my left who stated she could help me. She was at the counter. First off, if I have an appointment to open an account I feel I should have been at a desk or cubical with chairs so I could be seated to complete my business. There was a younder looking gentleman to her right, my left and when I explained what I was there for, he starts shaking his head no. I was not talking to him and did not appreciate his mannerisms. My appoinment was to open an account with my daughter and myself and have my trust be the beneficiary. They both told me no I could not do that, and again I was NOT dealing with the gentleman. My daughter reached out to another credit union I have an account with and they said yes they could do the request I was asking to have done, so I left. I feel I was not treated very well and I have banked with GNCU for almost 40 years. Maybe these two staff members could use some training on keeping out of others business, facial expressions and some privacy when it comes personal business. Unfortunately, I was so upset with the whole process that I did not get there names. I returned to the GNCU on Monday August 10 and was one again greeted by the young lady on the left. She said she could help me and I said no, and let a gentleman go ahead of me. I closed out one account, but am seriously considering closing all my accounts. read more

The customer service is a joke! We waited on hold for 40 minutes and then the customer agent hung up without even helping us.

This bank is unreliable and has an app that functions as if it is 2006. No one or thing manages the messages sent through the app. The main phone line associated with all branches requiring callers to select a prompt has been broken for ages. You will have to go to the main Greater Nevada website to retrieve the contact number that is in service. I have had personal banking issues but I'm keeping this institutional specific. I am incredibly disappointed with GNCU for allowing the same check I wrote to a painter to clear twice. A fraud department representative confirmed that GNCU processed the duplicate payment, but told me nothing could be done since the funds had already been sent. Under federal Regulation CC, the institution that accepts a duplicate deposit is responsible for indemnifying others if their failure causes a loss. Despite this, GNCU has refused to take action or credit my account. I am astounded at their lack of member service in working to resolve errors between institutions. GNCU is partially responsible for the mistake, as they did allow the check to clear twice on the same day. I have requested that GNCU reimburse the duplicate withdrawal and work with the other institution to resolve the error. If this is not resolved immediately, I will file a complaint with the NCUA and consider further legal action. read more

I have been with GNCU for many years and have always received great customer service. I do most of my banking online and I find their website to be very understandable. It includes my FICO score and the option to take advantage of many offers. GNCU has responded quickly to resolve any issues I have had. read more

On 3/30/26 I had a phone appointment with Taylor Clarke who was very prompt and helpful during the phone call. Taylor emailed me Nena Ulloa's contact info as she would be the contact person moving forward and Taylor told me Nena will be contacting my husband to get proper authorization from him. Nena never called my husband and I made appointment for 4/23/26 for my husband and I to go into the Eagle Station branch to complete our transaction with Jocelyn Camp-Campbell. I didn't like that Nena did not contact like we were told and I wasn't going to be reaching out to her, we requested a service and it is the service provider responsibility to ensure our needs are met and questions answered. read more

When I first started with GNCU over 30+ years ago the customer service was great, however GNCU customer service has gone down hill over the years. When you call in and ask to speak with a manager they give you the run around and do not get back in touch with you. In reading a lot of the review it seems that I'm not the first and most likely will not be the last. I recently had purchase multiple gift card from prizeout through GNCU program with them. Not only did it take forever for the gift cards to say they were active. When we went to use one of the gift cards it was saying that there was no money on the card. Prizeout says it not their problem as the card was issued and used. Princess Cruise lines also says it not their problem as the card was used at 1:24pm on 9/4/2025, however the cards were not activated and I was sent an email on 9/4/2025 at 1:157 pm saying we can use the cards. How can I have used the card at 1:24pm, but I did not get the email about the card being able to use until 30min later. I called GNCU right away spoke with Chris J on the 4th pf September. I had to keep calling to get any information only to be met with no information then what I found out on my own. On Sept. 10th, I spoke with Chris J again and he said he had escalation to his high ups, not it is Sept 18, 2025 and I called back and spoke with Chris J again only to be met with yet again no resolution to the problem. I asked to speak with his higher up supervisor only to be dismissed and said " That he would get back to me today" I'm not holding my breath. I asked to speak to his supervisor and was told she was not in. I asked for her name and direct phone number and I only got her name (Patti), he refused to give me her direct phone number. I don't believe that no high, high up mangers don't have phone numbers that the members can call about an issue(s ). I have lost out $455.00 due to this mess. I have also lost the interest I would have gained if that $455.00 was in my account. One other member mentioned going to the NCUA and filing a complaint, this may also be my future path with getting my money returned to me. read more

GNCU provides poor customer service. They routinely change benefits/requirements of their checking account without notifying account holders, they do not respect customer's time by not having enough tellers, and their staff is uninformed and provide incorrect information, like holds put on cashier's checks. I have had an account at another credit union, and hands down, it was top notch. GNCU is not. If you have another option, avoid GNCU. read more

When you do business with a bank for 30+ years you expect to be treated well. I applied for a small home improvement loan (15K, I have 500K plus in equity) and was turned down. I went to Bankrate.com who got me in touch with Splash and got my loan for less APR than GNCU was going to charge me. I'll keep my checking account with GNCU since I pay no fees, but I will look elsewhere when I want to invest in CDs, bonds and such. read more

it's a Sunday and my card was declined for both in person purchases, and online purchases. I tried to call their member services and kept getting transferred to fraud prevention. All three times that I talked to fraud prevention they confirmed that I did not have a fraud alert. I'd have to turn around and call member services and then they're transferring me to card services for a debit card issue which only take credit card issues. So essentially I've been getting the runaround constantly & now I need to put gas in my car before I go to work tomorrow. How am I gonna put gas in my car if my card doesn't work? This bank has gone down the toilet and their weekend customer service people cannot possibly be trained well I am so disgusted and I'm about ready to close this account. I've been a member since 1998. if there is no fraud alert on my card and I have money in my account, Why in the hell is my card being declined? Why can't I use it? Their very untrained member services personnel over a weekend are essentially useless. They're too busy, busy shirking responsibilities and transferring me to places that are not applicable instead of trying to help me directly. So now I have to deal with this matter tomorrow in person at the bank. They better get ourselves together. I am so frustrated and so angry and baffled at how poorly I was treated today. read more

My car refi was made more difficult by Nena Ulloa. We played phone tag for weeks. There were 2 problems - first my cell phone would not ring when she called me even though it rings for everyone else. And secondly, she refused to call from any other phone (perhaps they don't pay her enough to afford a cell phone). She would leave a message for to return her call, but never tell me when she would be in or out. And inevitably I would get her voice mail. She finally told me to go to my local branch in Reno where they would call her and I could talk to her. Of course, when I did that, she was on another call... :( read more

I just recently called customer service regarding a non-authorized use of my card for services. I explained to them the situation and the gentleman on the other side of the phone just kept telling me that they would not be able to recuperate my funds. I want to let everyone know that I bank with Wells Fargo also and that I have never had these kinds of issues. The gentleman said that Mastercard would never approve to have my funds returned. So, am I dealing with the bank or am I dealing with Mastercard? Anyways this made my account go overdrawn which had never happened to me and they even charged me over $100 in overdraft fees. Incredible! Like thieves in the night! no regrets and definitely no explanations. Such poor service and I will be closing this account. I understand why this place only has 2 and 1/2 Stars. I walked into their main office branch to talk about checking accounts. I'm looking at moving from Wells Fargo. I spoke to a fellow with glasses and a beard at the teller counter and asked whom I could speak with about checking accounts. He said they are far too busy and booked for the day and I have to make an appointment to speak to somebody. So here's a teller standing in front of me telling me he can't tell me about checking accounts. I was a bank manager for 28 years. I would never let a potential customer walk out the door like they did here. I have to look elsewhere for a new checking account. read more

Greater Nevada has Home Depot set up as a quick button in bill payer, I have used bill payer for over 15 years on my previous checking account with no issue having the payment go almost immediately. Greater Nevada mails a check to this vendor which their retail credit card is handled by Citibank. My December payment was due on the 22nd, I initially set it to pay on the 17th but the software couldn't process it until the 20th. Today, December 29th, Citibank has still not received my payment and has charged late fees and interest on a payment which was started in way more time necessary to post. read more

I noticed that my last review was referring to an old building, so obviously should be updated! The problem with "skinny" ATM lanes that trucks couldn't drive through has been resolved! How's that for customer service? I complain that my truck won't fit and they build a new building and new ATMs!! Haha! No, they didn't build the new ATMs just for me - but I can pretend! Don't expect GNCU to reimburse you if someone intercepts (steals) your electronic check you send a business using their system and cashes that fraudulent check against your account. Their Fraud Dept doesn't care; it's your loss, not theirs. Go live Greater at a different financial institution and tell 10 people why you are going somewhere else like I will be doing. read more

Been a member for many years. Customer service always good - way superior to for profit banks. Great CD rates recently. Seem to keep up with the latest technology for banking. I like that profits go back into the credit union and not into investments I would not make myself, like the petroleum industry. read more

UPDATE: I am lowering my review to four stars since they have their business info on Yelp locked, but they listed the wrong hours! -------------- I have been to this credit union about six or seven times since late 2016, both at the old building and new one. I always had to make a deposit of my rent into my landlord's account. I love the new building, right on the corner. It is like an Xfinity (Comcast), Verizon, or AT&T showroom, instead of a bank. There are no teller lines. You get checked in at the door by a greeter and have a seat. Then you are called to a desk where the person helps you. such a wonderful experience! The employees have always been so friendly and professional. They even have a room dedicated to the Reno Aces AAA baseball team, which they sponsor. They apparently also have a drive-thru, but I have never used it. The are open from 9 AM to 5:30 PM on weekdays and from 9 AM to 2 PM on Saturdays, which are great hours. I also was pleased with their old building. You had to walk a little ways from the door to the tellers, but there were always three or four windows open, and they were all very nice. The drive-thru was a little slow, since there were multiple lanes and only one teller, so I stopped using it. And it wasn't marked well as to which way you should go. read more

She was totally clueless, and without notice switched the call to the credit card line. It turns out that you have to have a different online account to access your credit card. I have been a member for 14 years. I spent 4 years WORKING for this Credit Union. That means nothing to this business. I have a spare account I haven't used in a minute. It gets a $10 monthly service charge. Fine, I deal with it. I should have closed my account before but I figured I would keep it open as a spare. This month, I forgot about the fee (I am 35 weeks pregnant and very spacey) and they overdraft for the maintenance fee. Fine. But then, something I haven't seen before? They started charging daily overdraft fees of $10, which I did not notice right away. I call the ask about this and get this reversed. They tell me I am ineligible because I have had over 100 fee reversals. WHAT? That is absolutely not true. I asked if they have proof of this, they tell me they cannot give me proof. So I looked through my statements, thinking maybe my husband who is a joint signer on these accounts did that? I have no idea. I found ONE reversal in the last 12 months. ONE! They refused to help me. Basically said too bad so sad. Again, I WORKED for this company, I know how things work. I am not trying to be THAT person but really? You guys say I made that many requests but can't show me, and I can't find anything that shows I did that. Again, I am about to have a baby. Times are hard, and you are taking money from a family who literally lives paycheck to paycheck and refuse to do anything about it. Wonderful. Thanks for nothing! read more

I'm done! After 37 years, I've seen GNCU go from great to just another money-hungry bank. The final straw; they revamped their website recently. NOW, as a result, I am considered "secondary" on both accounts and do not have access via MY online account to all of the services, i.e., printing off statements. Because I am not the "primary" account holder. On one, MY HUSBAND is! (can you believe in the 21st century, they are still pulling that crap, the husband's name first, which makes the wife a secondary account holder who does not have full access to the account!???) and on the other account, my developmentally delayed stepdaughter is considered the primary account holder because her name is first. Mind you, I've been able to access everything since they have had online access at this company; this is only since they revamped their website. Also, mind you, neither "primary" account holder has EVER accessed the accounts online. Here is the kicker. The call center supervisor can email the statements to me for $5 per statement. Remember, I cannot access them myself because I am "secondary" (like hell I am!) I need six of them. So, I cannot access and print them myself because I don't meet their criteria online, but for a fee, I meet their criteria just fine over the phone, and they can email them to me. How's that for a crock? I will be trying the new credit union closer to our house. Pain in the arse to have to change everything after all these years, but I'm done. (Being "secondary" has come up before, and my husband signed something at one point saying we would have equal access to the account.) This should be illegal for married couples! It makes the HUSBAND the only one able to make any changes or access certain parts of the account. But not the wife. read more
