To Whom It May Concern, I have been a loyal customer of Greater Texas Federal Credit Union for over 30 years, and I have never encountered an experience like the one I had on February 21 at your new location on Mopac Expressway. I visited this branch because the location closest to me in Manor is closed on Saturdays. I brought in a cashier's check from Chase Bank made payable to me in the amount of $8,000 to deposit into my account. I did not detach the check from its original attachment until I reached the counter. From the moment I presented the check, I was made to feel as though it was potentially fraudulent. The representative repeatedly questioned whether I had the original attachment, even after I explained that I had just detached it at the counter. She then called over a coworker to assist. When I asked whether there was an issue, I was told that she was "just doing what is expected." I explained that I have deposited cashier's checks at other branches in the past without incident. I was then asked whether those checks were for "this amount," to which I responded yes. I also mentioned that many people are currently depositing income tax refunds, so larger deposits should not be unusual. I was further informed that the funds would not be immediately available. I clarified that I already had sufficient funds in my account and that I was simply making a deposit. Despite this, the interaction left me feeling upset, uncomfortable, and unfairly targeted. After more than three decades as a customer, I was deeply disappointed by the way I was treated. No one should be made to feel as though they are suspected of wrongdoing simply for conducting a routine banking transaction. Unfortunately, this experience has caused me to reconsider returning to this location for future transactions. I respectfully request that this matter be reviewed and addressed. Long-standing members deserve to be treated with professionalism, dignity, and respect. read more

This review is for the Manor Branch. I had the worse experience with this branch when I tried to open an account. I submitted the application online, which was accepted, but a couple of days later I received an email notifying me that I needed to apply in person. I went to the Manor Branch and that is when the humiliating experience started with the employee who helped me. I explained that I had opened an account online, to what she said that I needed to start the process again (did not bother to check the online application). I said fine, what do I need to do. she asked me for my ID and some proof of my home address. I presented all the documents they asked for, I was there for almost 45 minutes and during this time the employee went back and forth to the back office, and after 45 minutes I was told they could not open an account because my name was so common and there were too many people with bad credit. I thought it was strange to receive an excuse like that when my credit is very high, I have TSA clearance, and I have worked for the health care industry all my life which requires clearance from the FBI and DOJ and besides I am already a member of a credit union. Anyway I wasted 45 minutes just to be told that I could not open an account. read more

This company seems great at first -- friendly staff, solid offerings, and a good reputation. But after some time, I noticed they find every possible way to nickel and dime you with fees and charges that add up quickly. It's frustrating, especially when there are other credit unions out there with more transparent practices. If I could do it over, I'd definitely go with a different credit union. read more

I was surprised that the rating was at 2.0 my experience was 5 star!. As soon as I walked in I heard a genuine "Welcome!" from every person who was in there. My credit union is out of town and they understood what I needed even though I was asking all the wrong questions lol My CU told me to go there and deposit to a savings account. I thought I had to open an account and deposit but, they deciphered my needs. Even though they could have made a sale for a new account they paused and explained more. I had to leave but, I'm definitely going back to open an account with them. They knew what I needed even though I didn't know. Downgrading to one star because: (1) In the response to my review, management says "We're always open to hearing how our services could be improved" but she summarily IGNORED THE ITEMS I ENUMERATED. She says "We would love to learn more about your experience and welcome any suggestions..." Oh yeah, then how about ACTUALLY READING THE REVIEW YOU'RE REPLYING TO, AND ACKNOWLEDGING IT?! (2) Website is a pathetic joke. The speed of the home page is glacial, it times out on you WHILE you're using it (e.g., actively scrolling), and they can't even get the ledger right. One tx is listed as "External Withdrawal" but the amount is shown as POSITIVE, not negative, and the resulting balance is completely wrong. Here's how it looks on the site: BALANCE: $45.04 "EXTERNAL WITHDRAWAL" +$251, New Balance = -$160.92 That tx was an attempt by a creditor to pull $251, which failed to NSF, so the new balance should still be $45.04, since no money came in or out. But that's not what the website says. It wrongly says that money came in, and it lists a completely wrong balance. read more

Be aware that Greater Texas Credit Union does not recognize a state of Texas temporary drivers license as proof of identity. If you want to make a deposit, you have to wait until you receive your new ID before being allowed to put funds into their institution. Withdrawals I somewhat understand. But putting money INTO the credit union? Ludicrous policy. Time for a new financial institution. read more

I only gave this bank one star because I can't go any lower. This is absolutely THE worst bank to ever exist. More importantly because they actually steal your money and think it's okay for any number of unethical reasons. I read to them a multitude of laws and acts that stated how what was being done was illegal, but they only response was that they were unable to give back the money they'd taken from me. On top of that, not a single person knows how to do their job there, or else I wouldn't get a different explanation or different instructions from each person I talked to. They've made mistakes they've cost me time and money in order to fix, and didn't bother to apologize or do anything to make it up to me, and I've been with them do over 10 years! You get the wrong pizza from Pizza Hut, they at least refund you and give it back and don't make you stay on the phone with them for two weeks! They were rude to me, hung up on me twice now...just don't even bother with this bank if you like actually having money. It's affected my mental health severely, and I'd just suggest you go somewhere else and not go through the stress I've gone through. Oh, and I've had the President (someone who claimed to be the president) of the bank on the phone to me, and he acted the most unprofessional I've ever seen anyone with that much power act. I go to GTFCU mostly because I can use them as a Shared Branch of my credit union in Houston (where I've banked for 20 years). Lots of Texas credit unions belong to this shared branch network so you can bank from any of the participating locations. I'm a big fan of credit unions over big banks like BoA or Wells Fargo. Less fees, more personal service and most all the services you need for regular banking. The GTFCU Airport location has those video monitor teller setups inside, so it feels like you're at the drive thru. They also have a bunch of drive thru lanes so I usually just stay in the car. Service has always been courteous and quick at this location. read more

I have had an account for about five years now. For the most part, it does the job. I do have a few frustrations with them, and I'll be changing unions/banks soon, but only because there is not a branch close to my home now (and there are higher interest rates elsewhere). One of my frustrations, is that every time I have moved in the last five years, which has been at least four times, due to internships, relocations, etc., I have to fax or email a signed statement with my old and new address. They really should make this convenient, allowing it to be done online. Also, each time, soon after I change my address, I receive a $3 return mail fee and I have to call them each time to get them to remove it. I get whatever I can electronically, but they always mail me something (probably a letter stating that my address has been changed) and I get charged. I asked recently why this always happens, and they said because the rep forgets to change the 'mail code' item. So, that's a training issue that inconveniences me. Another frustration I have, is that when I have an issue that I have to call about, I call the automated line and press '6' for member services and the person who takes the call always says (after I've described the problem in detail), "let me transfer you to member services." I asked them the last time about this, and they said they are 'member response' and they take the simple calls for member services to save members wait times on hold when they call in. So, because there are people who call about simple issues, like branch times/locations, balances, and other stuff that can be checked online, I have to spend more time going through the system when I have an issue that can't be solved by the internet. How is this supposed to save me time? And there have been a few other small issues (mistakes on their side) in the past five years... Since I do not have a branch by my house, I've been using a shared branch, and that's only caused more inconveniences because of each credit union's specific rules. I've had holds placed on checks for days, and now I'm going to have to call the shared branch, because I made a deposit on the 7th, and I just called Greater TX and they don't see it. So, overall I do recommend this credit union as long as you aren't using a shared branch for services, and if you can tolerate the inconvenient little 'kinks' in the system. But I am going to look for a better option for me soon. (And I still recommend this CU over 'we only care about us' major banks like Wells and Cap One...definitely!) read more

I use GTFCU because my neighborhood association has an account there. I use University Federal Credit Union for my personal accounts and never have the trouble I have with GTFCU. Why? * who in this day and age closes a bank/credit union lobby at 4 p.m. M-Th ? * who does not take customer service calls after 4 p.m. M-Th at ANY location in any city where they have branches? * who does not have some extended hours with a call center after lobby hours? Even until 5 p.m. would make sense, until 7 p.m. even more. * who requires hand written carbon forms filled out by the customer (no help from them if you need to take one away for signatures - they point to it and make you write in the information) to change information on the account? If one piece of information is inaccurately left off or not signed on the complicated form - do it again on another 2 piece carbon by the member). I was just added to my mother's account at Randolph Brooks Federal Credit Union and all of that information was inputted by the employee while we were present and printed and signed off on then scanned directly into their system. * who gives no online assistance if one is locked out of any account after the hours of 4 p.m. M-Th? Who? Greater Texas Federal Credit Union. My neighborhood association will be moving their account to a credit union that is in the 21st century and offers hours before and after normal people get off work, phone hours that are accessible to M-F 8-5 ers, and have online troubleshooting systems that can be accessed after the lobby is closed (or even allow one to reset one's password). Because of their intransigence, it took 4 hours over two days and the involvement of the VP at the main Austin branch to get me added to the account originally when I became treasurer since the association president worked from 8-5 p.m. Their inflexibility has caused us to keep the same name on the account even though that was two presidents ago. read more

I have banked with this credit union for more than 20 years. Out of sheer laziness, I have not moved my accounts, but it is now time. I don't recommend that anyone use this bank if you have other options. I have long been frustrated with its poor customer service, lack of modern banking options, lack of ATMs in Austin, and lack of access to a real person. For example, the bank's fraud protection services cut off my check card while I was travelling for business because I was out of town. It was then challenging to get a person on the phone to correct the situation and they had the audacity to tell me it was my fault for not notifying the bank I was leaving town. This is ridiculous. The final straw came when there was actual fraud on my check card. On a weekend, the bank's fraud unit cut off my check card. This meant I had no access to cash because the bank's member services doesn't work on the weekend. First thing Monday, I tried to call the bank. I spent more than an hour and a half on hold, was cutoff multiple times, and never actually got through to a person. This is outrageous, and the bank's management should be ashamed of the quality of service they provide. read more

If you like people actually answering when you call customer service, you do not want to bank here. If you like GOOD customer service, you do not want to bank here. I spent all morning calling them. They have a weird phone system, that re-routes to the operator after a certain time instead of placing you on a queue. This is frustrating because it means you're being sent to the back of the line each time instead of just waiting your turn. When you finally get a hold of someone, they more than likely will be the wrong person and will send you back to the queue. I asked to speak to the supervisor due to the member services girl interrupting me every 5 minutes and you guessed it, I ended up talking to the receptionist desk again. I had to take off from work and go to the actual office. They're not customer friendly. Save yourself the headache and go to RBFCU. I've never had to wait longer than 2 minutes with them and they've been great at explaining everything and making sure I understood correctly. read more
