Not a breakfast place maybe but the sandwiches are good and perhaps the rostis and soups are their forte. Yes they have good sausages but how hard is it to prepare breakfast in a cafe with 4 tables and get it right, or even close? Ill be off to a cheaper greasy spoon next time I need a fry up.

The Croque Madames are to die for, with a great balance of cheese to bechamel and a balanced construction that means you can take them away without them disintegrating instantly, and the shop owner is plain lovely. The range of sausage rolls also seems to be ever expanding, and the mustard and pork one I had the other day was delicious - just the right amount of mustard to add flavour without overpowering the filling. It was frigidly windy when I was in Brighton and after walking around the town a bit, I started looking for a place to brace myself with a cup of tea before heading out. I'd had a recommendation to try to find Leman Tea Room and it was well worth the quick walk. The owner kindly let me in and it was bliss. So warm and toasty, and adorably decorated. I ordered a slice of their spinach and banana cake, and a cup of tea. Both were just what I needed. The cake was fresh, handmade, and not too sweet at all. I polished it down with my little teapot of tea. The owner left me alone to my thoughts and to warm up at my own pace, never hurrying me. I love little finds like this, with plenty of the owner's and local character throughout!

It's simple, cheap, and relaxing (in the little space for you to sit). If your in a bit of a rush, and you can't wait around to have something more substantial, whilst you also don't want to waste your money on some anaemic little stale sandwich from Somerfield, this is the place to come. There's also a deal going on Coffee's too, so pop down and kill two birds with one sandwich, or stone...or whatever...

It's not really (bar a couple of small metal tables) and eat in place, due to the size, but grab some lunch here and head over to the Level or Preston Park to eat it - perfect.

Luckily my flatmate recently introduced me to The Galley and I've never looked back. I LOVE this place. The range of bread and fillings is incredible and the pricing plan logical: The more fillings, the more you pay- a sandwich with 3/4 fillings will cost around £3.50. I always, without fail, go for the warm falafel and goats cheese wrap, loaded up with salad, pine nuts, olives and sweet chilli sauce- it's heavenly. The salad items and sauces come at no extra cost so don't hold back! There's always specials on the board, but you can get creative and combine any number of ingredients, including garlic mushrooms, spinach, and bacon, to name but a few. They also do sweet and savoury crepes, and they're not over-priced. On top of the endless culinary delights one can experience at the Galley, the woman who runs the place is absolutely lovely, and I feel genuinely happy to be supporting her business. And then there's the crepes, handmade in front of you... Yummy! And completely unexpected: why does a sandwich shop specialise in crepes? Why does it matter is probably the more pertinent question: they taste amazing, a perfect lunchtime snack. This is a great little place for a lunchtime excursion, and the only thing it's missing is somewhere to sit beyond the corrugated iron out the front. The toasties, the main focus of the menu, range from single-slice chocolate or cinnamon toasts to elaborate, multi-slice sandwich specials, and are all hand-made on order. The wait is short, and the quality exceptional. I personally recommend the Gourmet Specials: each of them is a triple-decker toasted sandwich, with more than one fresh and local ingredient - heavenly! The prices are very reasonable, for the toasties as well as the salads (which, I'll admit, I've never tried, but look delicious), the home-made cakes (yep, home-made on the premises) and the various sundries. All of the local and home-made flavour is packaged beautifully in a modern, hip-looking locale, an old-townhouse adapted into a sizeable seating area, although the very modern, Swedish-looking seating arrangement takes a little getting used to. My advice: sit at the outdoor tables in Market Square and soak up the rays in this very pleasant part of town. And the result wasn't awash with grease as some people seem to think toasted sandwiched need to be. The lady that served me was friendly and chatty, and was rather incredulous that I'm at university, and even more so when I said I was 21. One day these boyish good looks of mine (cough) will win me something other than a mild feeling of prepubescence. But anyway, the interior of Toasters is also quite fresh and comfortable, and is certainly a place you can feel happy about having a bite to eat and relaxing in. I was a little pensive at first when I looked at the price board, but the quality of the food certainly made up for it, and there's a loyalty card of sorts that allows you to get a free sandwich after having bought six. After a long walk from Brighton Marina to the Pier, and a lot of shopping in The Lanes, we were ready for an Afternoon Tea! This Tea Shop is in the heart of "The Lanes", a picturesque location amidst brightly coloured shops, cafes and restaurants, in narrow, winding alleyways that make for a unique shopping area. It was lucky we went in at 4.30pm... They close at 5pm, but we were welcomed in as one of the last guests before they announced they were closed. It also meant we not only got a table, but the place started clearing out before we'd finished, so we ended up being the last customers, which was nice. It's a cute, cozy little tea shop, pretty on the outside and inside, with pictures of Brighton on the walls and an eclectic mixture of teapots, milk jugs and cups. It had been many years since I'd last had a "cream tea" and this didn't disappoint. We ordered some fruit scones and some plain scones (both were yummy but I recommend the fruit ones - the raisins & sultanas are really plump and juicy!). We also tried our scones both ways - cream then jam (the Devon way), and jam then cream (the Cornish way)... I'd been brought up the Devon way, but discovered the Cornish way is actually more to my liking! Both were yummy! We didn't buy any cakes, but the cakes (as well as the scones) are made fresh daily and looked delicious. And I must say, the tea itself was fresh and superior quality - loose leaf English breakfast, rather than bagged, really makes a difference. Our server was very sweet and friendly, and then, at the end, since we were the last customers, the shop owner came out to talk to us, and was super friendly and welcoming... She asked where we were from (always fun, as I'm British, but my husband and daughter are American). Despite it being the end of her day, she didn't rush us out at all, and enjoyed chatting with us. My boyfriend was disappointed with only one sausage and one rasher of bacon on his fry up, but I on the other hand found it refreshing to eat a fry up prettily presented and not dripping in grease. The prices aren't dirt cheap - you're looking at 6 quid for a fry up, plus a steep charge for extra items - this place offers a more civilised brekkie (see Gossip Cafe for the cheap and cheerful). I must pop in there again soon actually as last year there were free Quality Street's at the counter - always a welcome touch! I'm a fan of the tea too - okay there aren't a bijillion varieties and there isn't a tea leaf in sight, but it's served in a massive mug, builder style, just how I have it at home! The decor is cosy, with a range of sofas/tables/garden seating, and it's a nice place for a lazy sunday morning - all in all, well worth a visit (check out the specials too as there're occasionally discounts on the breakfasts).

I went in for a cup of tea yesterday right when the sleet/rain deal started, and was instantly warmed by the 50s diner feel of the café (and the tea.) I was tempted (quite intensely - the plate was held right up to my face) by some apple cake with clotted cream for only a pound, but stuck with the tea. (I'm anticipating a wealth of Christmas sweets in the next few days.) The café offers sandwiches, soups, pastas and full breakfasts for quite low prices. The sandwiches started at £2.95, for instance. The quaint Specials board and chatty demeanour of the servers added to the diner feel. I also noticed an advertisement for a tarot card reader - she comes to The Street every Wednesday from 10am - 2pm. That might be interesting .... She's from the Psychic Network! Anyway, it's a great little café for tea and cake or a diner-esque meal.

This is a humble independent cafe selling decent coffee and excellent home cooked food. The owner Elina hails from the Oseta region of south Russia and has brought some of the local cooking knowledge with her to breezy Brighton, and you can tell. The food is exquisite, cooked to perfection and the menu is packed with inventive recipes. Specials change regularly and there is plenty of choice on the regular menu. I recommend the Oseta's House, a delightful dish of scrambled egg with halloumi, tomato, and spinach... it really is to die for! Coffee is good (to this writer's taste buds anyway, but I'm no coffee aficionado) and there are plenty of other choices on the drinks menu. Honestly, if you haven't been here you need to get down immediately. Right now. Drop what you're doing this instant. You won't regret it.

Oseta cafe has become my post workout re-fuel spot. It serves amazing brunch dishes that hits the…read morespot every time. I had the avocado and smoked salmon on sourdough the first time and the fennel sausage and lentil stew the second time. I also had a brilliant fresh lemon and ginger tea and the staff were brilliant - really chatty and friendly, but not invasive. It was the right balance between informal and professional and I really appreciated it. I even left with a slice of Guinness cake (which was to die for). I really love this little spot, and certainly will be back to try the meat and cheese dishes.
