THEY ALMOST KILLED OUR DOG!!! We left our Silky Terrier Coco with them for a week while we were on vacation. During our vacation we called multiple times to check up on Coco. They told us every time that she was doing fine. When we returned to pick her up she had severe bloody diarrhea and was almost comatose from dehydration and she had lost 3 pounds in one week! She had to spend 2 weeks in the hospital on a IV and have a feeding tube for 4 weeks because she was to weak to eat. This cost us $6,600. But the worst part is her kidneys failed because she was neglected so long by them and now the vet says she only has 6-9 months to live... read more

When I pick my pup up in the evening, he is exhausted from all the fun he's had during the day. It's a family-owned-and-operated business, which I am glad to support. This is the best daycare in the entire city, hands down. I've been coming regularly for daycare and grooming for a few years, so I'm not just a weekend boarder. I have a pittie and a few places that shall remain nameless (but definitely are not in the sky with diamonds) would not even give my dog an assessment because of her breed. Some history - I rescued my little Blue when she was a tiny puppy in Austin. I immediately started training her and socializing her. It was my first time being a dog dad so I went overboard on the books lol. Luckily she is amazing, and I had some incredible experiences at daycares in Austin that socialized her well, and now she is *literally* the most chill dog you have ever freaking seen. Let's little dogs boss her around, plays hard with the big dogs, let's puppies chew on her ears, seriously freaking chill. So when I moved down here and started running across breed restrictions I was dumbfounded. Like, your chihuahua is way more statistically vicious so get out of here with that noise. Anywhoo, finally found Greendog and Lola, and my little Blue couldn't be happier. She gets to play alllllllll day, they update social media with pics and videos, the even let me know when she has a new boyfriend. My girl gets around, don't judge! Was highly recommended to this place by my supervisor and I'm so glad I took her advice! We left our two puppies for 6 nights since we would be out of town for a while. I was so worried as this was my first time leaving them with anyone and know they can be super crazy sometimes, especially because they're already huge (they're German shepherds) but the people at Green Dog kennels were so nice, explained everything perfectly, were so patient with my boyfriend and I and answered our 273919 questions, and they even took the time to send me pictures/videos when I called to check on them about halfway through my trip. I'm so glad my puppies had a blast there and more importantly that they were treated with love and care. I'll definitely be going back - even if it's just once a month so they can socialize with the other dogs. I highly recommend this place! read more

We decided on Green because the pricing was more reasonable, had better hours, and was in a convenient location between us and work. This was my first experience with doggy day care and I was extremely nervous allowing strangers to take care of my dog who isn't just my dog but my daughter. Long story short I really had a wonderful experience with this facility. They were easy to work with and refunded me the remaining days I wasn't going to be able to use on their punch card. I've been bringing my dog, Kona, since January of this year. She had terrible separation anxiety for the first few months and as a new pet owner, I was overwhelmed with how I was going to make it all work. Green Dog Kennels was my saving grace! I brought her here nearly every day until she eventually became comfortable at home. The prices are spot on and they are military friendly. It was conveniently located on my way to work and the hours are wonderful, especially if you work early or into the evenings. They remember all the dogs names, and don't charge ridiculous prices for "extra play" like other kennels. Kona used to run up the ramp every morning - my only regret is that we had to move overseas. We love Green Dog Kennels and our pup loves it even more! We've been taking our pup to GDK for about a year now - ever since he was 10 weeks old. We take him here for daycare Monday through Friday and also board him here when we have to travel. He gets excited every weekday morning when he realizes where we are taking him and he loves on all the employees there, especially the owner, Lola! They treat him like he's their own fur baby, feeds him all his meals, and we love that he gets to play hard all day long with all of his buddies and gets to socialize. He plays hard all day and knocks out as soon as he gets home! They do cute things for all of the holidays such as ornaments with the pups pictures on them for Christmas, or have them pose in cute hats for Valentine's Day, and things like that. If we tell them what we are working on with our dog trainer, they help enforce what we've learned to provide consistency to help with his development and behavior. The business hours are hands down absolutely awesome and very accommodating for working dog parents. The prices are the best around and again I emphasize I love the fact that they let the dogs play all day and they aren't crated and let out here and there for play time. Location is great and right across from the Pearl. I would highly recommend this business to any one! Thank you to Lola, Andrew, and their staff for taking such good care of our dog. After a recent experience at Auntie Ruths in Minnetonka, MN, I was inspired to write a GLOWING REVIEW of Green Dog Kennels of SA. Being new to the area, I had no connections to any pet resources for information/help during my business travels. I found Green Dog online, called them and had a brief conversation about their requirements for new dogs. They were friendly, helpful and clear. I felt a little bit more confident leaving my baby... Then came the moment of dropping off my springer spaniel rescue Profe, which is always hard. Upon meeting the owners and watching them and their staff take Profe in, I instantly felt relieved. They treated my dog as if he was their newborn child; tender, sweet, gentle and encouraging. Despite his 50 lbs, my rescue is still timid around groups of dogs, especially dogs his own size. Green Dog understood Profe's needs and allowed him (supervised of course) to play and acclimate himself with the small dog group in the office. I couldn't have been happier. The icing on the cake for me was that Green Dog will update you on your pet ::IN REAL TIME:: This is the first (and sadly) only time I have had the privilege of seeing my dog via FB photo & video while I was in my hotel room thousands of miles away. As a pet owner, seeing your baby having a good time is ::SUCH A HUGE RELIEF::. I called them to thank them immediately-- Smart business move, Green Dog!!! Last week, I decided to take my two "puppies" on their first vacation. (65 lbs of 11 month old puppies named "Mischief" and "Mayhem"!) Pet-friendly hotel, check. Their favorite toys and blankets, check. First night, trying to visit with friends, I left them in the hotel room. I didn't even make it down the hall before they were whining and scratching at the door. SO... as leaving them unattended was impossible, I began looking for local "doggie daycares". The hotel suggested some place called "Lucy's" - they and the other 3 places I called, I had to leave a message and not one of them bothered to call me back. Then I called "Green Dog Kennels", who answered right away! I was able to have my vet fax the shot records to them, took my babies by and dropped them off. The people at "Green Dog Kennels" were SO reassuring - I had a bad case of "nervous parent"! Spent half the morning worried about the girls and finally broke down and called to check on them - glowing report :) After a full day of site-seeing, I picked up the twins. *Happy*, tired dogs greeted me :) The next morning, when we arrived back at doggie daycare, the babies almost bowled me over trying to get inside and play some more! I was absolutely delighted with the place and the people who run it. If you're looking for 5-star fancy-shmancy digs for your dog's daycare, then move along, but if you're looking for people who care about and take great care of your babies, then this is the place! I brought my dog to daycare for the very first time today. We are planning a trip which will cause us to be gone for at least a week and we are trying to get him used to a kennel/daycare. He has never been to a dog daycare before and of course he was very nervous and scared. He was more afraid of the dogs barking than anything. The woman who greeted me tried to help me get my dog in and told him "hurry I have things to do" and continued to try and drag him in. When I went to him and tried to reassure him that it was okay, the woman said I should not reward him for being scared. I was only trying to help him see that it was okay and a safe place. After he went in reluctantly, the woman said I should leave so that he can get used to it quicker. I left and called to check on him about an hour and a half later and was told he was fine, he was outside in a corner and not moving, a little scared. I called back about another two hours later and was told the same thing. At about 6, we called again to ask how he was and if he was able to stay the night, we were told he snapped at three people that day. They were trying to decide if they should call us or not. We told them no one had mentioned anything like that to us any of the times we called earlier. We went to check on him to see what was going on, if I didn't mention, they never said we had to pick him up, but when we got there the woman said again he had snapped at three of them. We told them again he had never been to a kennel and he was very scared. They were not able to get him to come to the door. We asked if we could go back and get him and they said no, so we asked if we could get him from a side gate and they weren't able to. They asked us to call his name then all the dogs were barking like crazy and they preceded to spray the other dogs with water and tell them to stop barking (I don't think that works for anyone). They finally pushed him in and when he heard us calling he finally came in. After we paid, they told us the owner said he can't come back again and the worker said maybe we should take him to a dog park. The woman told us that the owner looked at the cameras and told them he couldn't come back yet they never called us about him snapping? I understand if he was aggressive or tried to bite they should of course have called us right away but they did not. Instead we found out that he was outside in the corner all day long in the 100+ degree weather. They said he did not want to eat or drink all day which should have been another indication that he was very scared and should have called us. Needless to say the drive home for him was a sad one. He looked traumatized and was not himself at all. When we got home he drank a ton of water! He was starving, thirsty and went potty for a full minute which makes me feel like he was even afraid to do that. I wonder if they truly did even try to give him water. My dog is only a year old and not used to that type of environment, he is not aggressive at all but gets nervous in places he's not used to. The lack of empathy and the obvious lack of overall knowledge on how to handle dogs in that situation was overwhelming. The prices are low and competitive yes, but if you're looking for a place that will be understanding and patient with newbies to that environment, you will not find it here. I would also ask if you are okay with your dog being yelled at all day and not sure if he's eaten or drank anything during their stay, this is a place for you. read more

I have been using this kennel for both long (approx. one week) and short-term (weekend/overnight trips) for a little over a year now. I have been thoroughly impressed and grateful they have always been able to accommodate my English bulldog, Chauncey, at even the shortest notice, every time. Additionally when flight delays or unplanned extensions come up, they have always been very kind and happy to have him for an extra day or two. The price is extremely reasonable, the staff very kind, and the social set-up so great for my little buddy as he is enjoying the company of other dogs and taking away the added worry of thinking of him cooped up in a crate. Most importantly, Chauncey's behavior and disposition regarding going to or leaving Green Dog Kennels is indicative of how well he is treated there. He loves seeing suitcases now and pulls hard on his leash the entire walk over there. He's very excited when he knows he'll be going there, and has never once been anything but his usual clumsy and happy self when I have picked him up. My dog, Gizmo, has been going to GDK since 2009. He loves it! As soon as we pull into the parking lot, Gizmo is ready to party. He is always so excited to be there and wants to get dropped off as quickly as possible. When Gizmo is at GDK for either day care or boarding, I know that he is going to be loved and cared for. The owners of Green Dog Kennels are very nice people, and they took good care of my kids. We did daycare for the first 6 days, and then the dogs stayed over for the last 4 days and nights. Both dogs were happy and tired from playing whenever I picked them up, and were always happy to go back the next day. My old dog is on a special diet and needs daily medications too, and he was well taken care of. I wish Green Dog was in my home town -- we would go back for sure! The girls appear to love and trust the staff. If there is a special need, such as a medication, I know that it will be taken care of. Since moving to San Antonio in February 2015, we have been taking our little boy to Green Dog for both playcare and boarding, as well as for regular grooming, since we work long hours and travel often. He has been to several different playcares, but this one seems to be his favorite - which puts our minds/hearts at ease since we feel guilty for being away from him so much. Lola is incredibly responsive to our emails. Their hours are convenient and their rates are very reasonable. The staff also photograph the dogs and posts on their Facebook page, which I really appreciate. Not very many of our boy - he is not a fan of the paparazzi - but they make the effort to try to get some of him anyway. This is the only place that I would place my dog. Dandy, my cavalier is so happy and gets lots of attention and play with the "pack". The dogs are not bored and love to play together. Instead of being kept in a lonely kennel, they get to play, watcn, and lay around in a large play area and are placed with dogs similar of temperaments. I've been very happy with their service and care for my dogs, but more importantly my dogs are happy. I don't have to worry about my dogs' safety or well-being when I leave them here. My dogs have never been injured here as some other reviewers mentioned, but completely trust Lola and Andrew in giving them proper care if something were to happen...dogs are dogs after all and they don't all like each other. My dogs get super excited when I drop them off and are exhausted and happy when I pick them up so I know they've been able to get a lot of energy out. We have been sending my dogs to Green Dog Kennels since they first opened, and before that when they were Pet Paradise at their old location. They are phenomenal pet care folks! First, they really care about the dogs health and well being. Second, they are extremely knowledgeable about dog behavior and are very good at predicting and monitoring which dogs need more supervision, more play time, less play time, etc. They pay very close attention to the dogs, and are very diligent in dealing with senior pets and pets with health issues. I trust very few people with taking care of my pets when I leave town, and yet I happily drop off my dogs with Green Dog and never worry. They take such good care of our fur babies. I have had an extremely positive experience with Green Dog and have nothing bad to say about the place. The owners are totally genuine and would never do anything harmful to any of the dogs. The owners are also not ghetto. They take a very personal approach to each dog that comes in. When my puppy was suffering from a liver shunt, they had to run him to the emergency vet clinic while I was out of town and give him all sorts of antibiotics at various times throughout the day and special food. They were completely wonderful about it. Bottom line, if you are going to take your dog to a day care/ boarding facility where the dogs can socialize and roam around in the day, realize that accidents do happen (rarely though) and don't take it personally when they do. read more
