I love their baked goods, especially their meat pies and desserts. They have a lot of different types of baklava. I like their prepared foods too. They have lots of cooked meats with rice. The place is big. It's a fun place to shop. Service is friendly, but my son gave me a gift card and it was a big hassle to use it. They have to call the manager to process the gift card. The manager needs to use a special machine and apparently their Wi-Fi is spotty so the machine wasn't working properly and it took so long to finish the transaction. At least they apologized, but I've told my son not to buy me gift cards at Adonis again.

Nonetheless, I was impressed by their selection of African ingredients. They have produce, refrigerated foods, frozen items, and a butcher at the back. They sell beauty products like hair care and skin care as well. And purses and other accessories. Prices were ok. Some items like TinNel's beef patties were $14.99 for a box of 10 while they are only $10.99 at big box supermarkets. However, they had Tastees Patties, which are harder to find here in Ottawa. They do have many products that are not available at big box grocery stores. Staff were pleasant. There's free parking in the parking lot in front of the store.

They have a little bit of everything. Lots of noodles, sauces, canned goods, etc. They also have some fresh fruits and frozen items. I loved their selection of imported drinks! This grocery store is where the Trudel Home Hardware used to be and I love how the back wall had tools and other items that the hardware store used to sell. The store is spacious, bright, clean and well organized. I grabbed a Strawberry Fanta and it was only $1.50. The man at the cash register was friendly. He told me they've been open for about 6 months now. Funny story, as I was uploading the pictures I took onto Yelp, I realized I snapped an accidental shot while approaching the cash register. In the photo was the ceiling with the flags of the countries around the world hanging from it. I didn't even notice this while I was in the store, but it's so cool. Sometimes things that were unintentional, end up being the coolest of all ;) Downtown Ottawa definitely needs a store like this. Happy that they opened up. May they live long and prosper ;)

So I knew that I would love Mergi Shop. It's been open for a while, but I only recently made my way down there. It's in a rougher part of town, hence the bars on the windows. Public drug use, vandalism and acts of violence are common in this area, especially in the last few years. The store inside is brightly lit, clean and well-organized. Staff are friendly, greeting you as you enter, but leave you to browse on your own. If you need assistance though, they will help. I came to buy a specific Japanese mascara base (the Japanese make the best mascaras, IMO). Unfortunately, they didn't have it, but they had other items, including regular mascara of the same brand (Kiss Me Heroine Make). I got a mascara ($18.79) and decided to try their liquid eyeliner ($16.49) too, since the store was having a 10% off sale and I wanted to make my trip down there worthwhile, lol. They had lots of chips and other snacks from Asia and also imported drinks. They had mostly items from Japan and Korea that are harder to find. Not stuff from China that you can easily get at Kowloon Supermarket, Green Fresh or T&T. Their prices are very fair considering they are imported goods and rarer to find in Ottawa. A decent selection of frozen food for such a small store. They have a lots of drinks from coffee, tea, juices and soft drinks. Surprisingly they have some cosmetics as well.
