So... Let me tell you a story. A little while ago, the city tells me I have to remove a tree for Dutch elm disease. I decide to use Green Leaf because they were the cheapest. My neighbor wanted them to remove a stump from his boulevard, so we decided to lump the two jobs together. I agree to be the front man. Robert wrote up the bid, and it was a good bid, for everything, including stump removal. Day comes and he does the job. Tree on my property gets taken down and the stump is ground out. No problems. Then he goes and finds a stump in my neighbors property, NOT the one on the boulevard, and grinds it out. Turns out, he can't grind out the stump on the boulevard because only the city can do that. So, instead of calling me to see what I wanted to do, he just chose a stump at random on my neighbors property to grind out. When I called him, he told me that he can't do boulevard stumps. I told him to read the bid that HE wrote. Sure enough, he had written "Remove stump in boulevard." "Well, I don't know how that got there." Dude. You wrote it with your own hand. So, I told him that I would happily pay him for the work on the tree on my lot, but I would not pay him for grinding out a random stump that we didn't want taken out (the kids liked to play on that other stump). After yelling (and boy did he yell) about how we were in collusion to put him out of business, he finally agreed to the price - but he said that if I didn't pay with a credit card right there on the spot, he'd come back that evening and dump an entire truck load of dutch elm mulch on my lawn. Normally, he gives his customers 30 days to pay, but because he felt that he'd been lied to, because his poor business practices led him to NOT call with questions and just randomly grind up something else, he FORCED me to pay him. I was happy to pay him anyway, but the added threat really bugged me. I was tempted to just not pay and sue him later, but I didn't want the hassle. I paid him for what I owed him and I told him I'd not only never use him again, but I was going to tell the world what happened. And now I did. read more

Didn't return phone calls. When we talked to Brent in person he was otherwise pleasent to deal with.

Discussed a service and told him that we would be ready when the snow is gone and has not returned any phone calls. Even to decline would be nice or admit that he underbid. It was supposed to be a gift from the in laws. read more

I've had Green Leaf do work for me twice in the last several years. One job included tree trimming and removing two trees; the other included removing about a dozen mature Barberry shrubs (really nasty thorny ones) as well as some general tree trimming. Great experience both times. Good price. Work done on schedule. Excellent clean up. They've also done work for my in-laws, who were satisfied - it was their referral that led me to contact Green Leaf in the first place. I only came to Yelp to look up the number because I need some more tree trimming done, and I was surprised to discover any negative comments. Thought I should share my own experience. read more

I have to hire another company to finish the job. He does not return phone calls and also damaged my fence while here.

They came and did an estimate within one day after calling them. It took them only a couple more days to come back and cut the tree's down and stated that they would also do the stump grinding. Paid for the service but the stump grinding started but stopped due to machinery broke. Have not seen them back for over a couple of weeks now and no one has returned the call. Have left numerous messages with their night answering services and still have not had the work completed. Do not suggest having work done by this company or at least, don't pay them until ALL WORK is completed. read more

I was appalled at the way I was treated by Green Leaf Tree Service. I had them come out for a quote, then was told that I would receive a call in a week to schedule a time to come out and remove my tree. I was ok with that, but that call never came, so I called them hoping to set up a day for the tree removal, but the secretary who answered told me she would tell Brent (owner) that I called and that he needs to call me back. Folks, this happened every day for 3 weeks straight! I really wanted to give them my business just for the sake of not having to call another tree company and restart the process. Anyway, after about 3 weeks my Minnesota nice wore thin and I demanded that I talk to someone who could follow through on the quote I was given, but was berated on the phone and told that I was out of line for being so persistent. Are they kidding? 3 weeks of diligently trying to give them my business and I am the wrong one for being persistent in trying to actually pay them for a service. Such a colossal waste of my time and surely yours too if you go through them. Use some other local company of you live in the area. Save yourself the massive headache and anger for such rude and undependable people. read more
