Sadly this once really good shopping strip has taken a nose dive in the past two years. Blame it on…read moreanchor Farm Fresh moving out in 2018 leaving a major gaping hole. The strip is located conveniently on Virginia Beach Blvd across from the Virginia Beach main library. Collins use to be know for elaborate Christmas decorations by the road, I did not see them this year. There are two entry points on each side. Parking is more than plentiful with many lots of vacancies. The lot was clean. I needed to drop off a package to UPS which is in the center. The sidewalks were clean. Other nearby stores like Game Stop were dead on a Saturday afternoon. The main anchor is Jerry's Artarama and Navy Federal Credit Union with others sprinkled in. They took out the ATM for Navy FCU in the lot. A plus is a newer VB City Treasure Office. Also not sure if it's part of Collins but a Chilli's restaurant is located in their parking lot that's a draw. The bones are very good, bringing back tenants is the key for leasing agent Collins. It appears there was activity around the old Farm Fresh space, so I'm hopeful. 2.5 rounding down.

Whitner's Barbecue of Guy Fiori's Food Network "Diners, Dives & Drive Ins" fame must have been a Pandemic casualty. In its place is the well reviewed Alohahola. Snakes & Lattes appeared to be closed. Their Website indicates "temporarily closed for remodeling". But I saw no construction activity. Panera Bread is gone leaving an empty storefront. The large Rite Aid built on an out parcel is closed. It's sad since I remember when it was built, providing a walking distance drug store during the work day. Remaining are the familiar Mo's, ABC Store & Sushi/Hibachi buffet among others. Being one who doesn't like change my nostalgic trip wasn't a positive one. But there were many Pandemic casualties. So I shouldn't have been surprised.

Parkway Plaza is an older shopping strip, but it's also well maintained…read more Located off South Lynnhaven Parkway. The sign is large enough, but sits back. The strip is known for its barrel tile. If I'm using Parkway it's for an out business Chick Fil A that sits directly off the road. I'm usually there a few times a year, it's not my usual store. I'm not a fan of the small parking lot layout. Good strip that's clean and only hitch could be parking which is a bit limited.

The Cypress Point Shopping Center is a shell of its former self. Sadly the space that housed a…read moreFarm Fresh Supermarket has been empty for years. The large supermarket previously occupied the portion of the L shaped shopping center facing Diamond Springs Road. Doing business from the corner spaces are a dollar store & Sentara Family Medicine & & Sentara Therapy Center. Gone is Surf Rider & other longtime occupants of the side of the shopping center facing Wesleyan Drive. Lil Road Cat Rescue occupies a number of spaces. Well reviewed Suphan Thai is located on the same side as are a number of other eateries: Wing Stop, Ibis Cuisine & Big Apple Pizzeria to name a few. There are several bars, a tailor, nail salon, small gym, & day care center. Out parcels contain a gas station. The shopping center is still maintained. But it gives the daytime aura of being devoid of customers, especially on the empty supermarket side. When I went last there were only a few cars in the very ample parking lots. Possibly it's busier at night with restaurant & bar traffic. It would be great, considering the plethora of housing surrounding it, if the former grocery store space had a good occupant that would increase foot traffic as it once did. I remember the time when it was a busy place.

I had the opportunity to visit just a few times ever. Once was Burger, Breaks & Shakes was there...it's gone with a lot of others. The main anchors would be considered Goodwill, Rainbow and Value City. Another store at the end with a lot of square feet has been a close out store for years. I think it was a Steinmart at one time. Sports Authority went out of business months ago. There is a smaller strip that runs parallel that has Philip Michael for Men, Tropical Smoothie and a few others. I visited the men's store Phillip Michael today. Overall a sad strip with many vacant stores that has little business. Retail as a whole is hurting and this is a prime example.

There are many good stores in here such as Dicks sporting, Barnes and nobles, Victoria secret, New York and Co, t mobile, old navy , Macy's, Sephora and an apple store. Did I say H&M. Yep! Then too lol Dave and busters is attached which is a great location to hang out at. Mall is always clean and AC on high. I enjoy coming here for my shopping needs. Lake Shores Plaza is what I consider one of the least enticing shopping centers in Bayside. It…read morehasn't received the same type of quality facelift many others have in order make it more enticing to businesses. The location is probably the main reason for its decline over the years. The shopping center is located directly opposite Joint Expedition Base Little Creek. Although base housing is located across Shore Drive I suspect more of their shopping is done on the base at the exchange, commissary & other shopping, fast food and gas stations inside the base gates. The anchor store is a Food Lion, which appears to be smaller than their other Food Lions in the area. It's much closer to me than other Food Lions. There are a few of the grocery items I buy that are the grocer's branded products. But if I shop at a Food Lion I'm more likely to stop at one on my route home from another location. The businesses in the main shopping center and out parcels are varied including Arby's, Taco Bell, Jade Garden, Las Palmas, a hair salon, credit union, tobacco & vape shop, nail salon, barber shop among others, Decades ago there was a wonderful diner in one of the out parcels that was a favorite of my family for years. But it's long gone. The shopping center adds value to the neighborhood & is a quick place to shop for essentials out of stock in my favorite grocers. But it's not an often visited place for me.

Columbus Village has been a staple of Virginia Beach for as long as I can remember. What began as a…read morelarge shopping center preceded Town Center but today carries it as a part of its name. The mix of businesses has changed a lot over the years. The one constant has always been Barnes & Noble. My son, then in middle school, loved to go to B&N for computer programming books and the adjacency huge Record & CD store. It was a different day & age for music. I loved the Schlotzky's located with several other businesses on an out parcel. That area was demolished and now is the location of Shake Shack. Bed, Bath and Beyond was a favorite shopping spot. Following the demise of the chain, the building stood empty for a time. There were lots of rumors of businesses planning to occupy the space. Finally a dream came true. A new Trader Joe's just opened in a portion of the space. It's much larger than their Hilltop Store and the location is so convenient. Next to that is a new Golf Galaxy. In a nearby out parcel stands a restaurant that appears completed but not yet occupied. Another staple over the years occupies the north end of Columbus Village. Regal Columbus Cinema stands watch facing north. Thank you for continuing to provide convenient movie theaters to the Town Center area. Parking is plentiful in the shopping area that's now become a part of Town Center. It's clean, well lit & even provides parking for other Town Center shops & restaurants should one not want to park in one of the multi story city garages. The location is the southeast corner of the intersection of Constitution & Virginia Beach Boulevard. Hickman Place is a rather new large shopping area on the northeast side of the interstates of Nimmo…read moreParkway and General Booth Boulevard. It's anchored by a Publix Supermarket. Located in the southern portion of Virginia Beach it serves the surrounding neighborhoods with a plethora of shops, eateries and businesses. The center is aesthetically designed with many popular spots. A unique feature at the General Booth entrance is a Starbucks occupying a restored historic 19th century home. Trips to this part of town are few because it's so far from my house near the Shore Drive corridor. They're fascinating because of the rapid development in the 40 years I've lived in the city. Major roads that didn't exist then pass subdivisions and beautiful shopping areas such as Hickman Place. I've enjoyed my visits to Hickman Place. One day I'll do a deep dive into the history of what must have once been a Hickman family farm.

It houses many little shops such as a book store, subway, but also has larger shops like a super market and fish store. Lot is well maintained. Their are a couple of fast food shops as well. I could see this being a spot to go to if I lived in the surrounding neighborhoods. Our purpose today was for the philly pretzel shop! Running a deal for April 15 pretzels for $5. National pretzel day is April 26th and they are giving away free pretzels!
