This place gets the job done! Located in a little nook/plaza near Ashley's Furniture. This location sells guns, alcohol, limited electronics, shoes, and clothing. This has been a go to spot for recent purchases in the electronics section (fitbit and the ring doorbell, both well priced). The place can definitely use an update and expansion, but as mentioned before for a quick pick up of alcohol or snacks it is a good place to stop by especially if you live out in Chesapeake and don't want to drive out to the Norfolk exchange. I went to the exchange for shoes. They had a great variety. I ended up seeing really great deals. The best deal I saw was they have the Dyson air wrap hair tool! I regret buying mine online because the one at the exchange is a whopping $150 cheaper. Next time I'm making a big purchase I will be checking out the exchange first! If you are in or have served in the military this is a great place to go to purchase many items at a discount most often better prices than Amazon who usually does not carry many of the products. They offer good discounts on mens and Women's cologne along with all there other products. This location is at least 10 times the size of the Coast Guard exchange on base in Staten Island NY so I was like a kid in a candy store. Everyone was very nice, greeted me at the door and the staff was checking to see if I was finding everything ok. They have a full line of home products, cleaning supplies, clothing, shoes, sneakers, uniform supplies, alcohol, hand guns, rifles, etc. I would highly recommend them if you are able to access them. read more

I never knew. I was getting out of the hotel parking lot when I saw this place. The CGX is part of the local mall and a one min walk to my hotel. I've seen recruiting station in malls. The NRS I worked at was at a strip mall in Kaneohe but never an exchange. Here the check IDs at the front. Makes sense being in an open mall. The place is a decent size and it has what a typical exchange has. Cloths for the family along with small kitchen appliances and house hold supplies. There's a decent size entertainment section with the typical TVs, radios, speakers, and Apple products. Lastly there is a snack section with the accompanying adult beverages and it's a damn good selection. The Coasties got this right. Overall four stars. I feel like I'm at a Sears when I'm here minus the auto shop and major appliances. Plus I'm not going to give them a five. I'm NAVY all the way. Now excuse me, I think the Finest Hour is on. Tucked behind the busy Green Brier Parkway and 64 exchange, this is a small outlet that almost always has some interesting deals. Often long line for checkout but I've found the wait isn't that long and they're good about putting on the extra cashiers. Delay are often the customers in my observation... you know, the ones that can't decide anything holding up the line or wanting to argue every little price. As much as I detest discussing the Covid (hysteria) I would be remiss if not mentioning they are mask compliant and have plexiglass shields dividing the cashiers from the customers. For such a small store, they keep it clean and with the right level of safe guards. Liquor section frequently has sale items. Comes in handy if value shopping against the NEX as the two both have frequent sales but seldom for the same items. read more

The store has a good selection and the store greeter was very nice! My issue was with the cashier - she was rude and acted like she was doing me a favor by ringing up my purchases. I think a refresher course in customer service would be helpful here. read more

Interesting setup, great prices on tv's, like SERIOUSLY great prices on tv's! I'm essentially just waiting for my current ild plasma screen to die or the next time I move before upgrading to one of their low priced 60" tv's! Good selection on hard liquor, not the best prices or selection, but still better than heading to an ABC store. Ammo & gun prices are better than most places I've seen, the tax exempt purchasing goes a long way for anything you're buying in the hundreds. Put it on a cash rewards card & you're sitting pretty on the value & return! I made my first visit to the Coast Guard Exchange / CGX since it is across the parking lot from Homewood Suites by Hilton, where I am currently staying. Inside, it looks like a giant duty-free store that you see in many international airports. Electronics and computers have HP, Dell, Sony, and Toshiba, as well as the Apple iPad, iPod, iPod Touch. They also have WII and xBox games for those so inclined. They carry Polo and Levi's in the clothing department. This is a full service department store type atmosphere but most of the prices are considerably less than other stores in the area. Liquor is almost literally half the price of buying at your local state-run liquor store (but you need a military ID for this, as well as for buying tobacco products). Most of the products can be purchased by those with a CAC card or any item can be purchased by members of the military. The store is well lit, clean, and possesses a friendly staff. There is a plenty of parking as well. All in all, a nice and pleasant shopping experience. read more

The CGX is like a Super Walmart for just Coastie families! Nice selection of about everything you can think of. Clothing, electronics, alcohol, assortment of food items and lots of sales! I have never been in this store and not come across a sale of some sort. Typically 25 % off already marked pricing. All uniform items you can think of are available. They even have a gun section! Some MAGPUL items but they do need to stock up. During this particular visit I noticed the shelves were a little bare. All and all a good spot. read more

If you are able to take advantage of visiting the Coast Guard Exchange in Chesapeake, do it. It' a small store, but they have a variety of items ranging from clothing to electronics to jewelry to alcohol. Their prices are very reasonable and the selection is great for such a small store. Prices on wine are a bit higher than Total Wine, but no tax. Their prices on alcohol are extremely reasonable even compared to the Navy Exchanges. On our last visit, I got a cute sundress for only $19.99.....cheap. My husband got some nice IZOD long sleeve shirts for less than $20. Can't be beat. Definitely a must stop every time we come through the area. read more

I work on the CG base in Elizabeth City and we have a small exchange here but nothing compared to this one in Chesapeake. This one is in an old Circuit City building and it is very nice. They have some great buys on Columbia and North Face clothing. My wife also gets great deals on Bare Eccentuals make up products here. She also shops for Alfred Dunner and Ruby Road clothing. Of course you have to be active or retired military or active or retired government employee to shop. And alcohol and tobacco products are for military only. There is a nice selection of Coast Guard clothing, some of which is made by Columbia. There are a few items of clothing for other branches of the service, but its mostly CG. This is an all in one grocery, housewares, clothing, electronics, everything store with lots of brand names and best of all, its tax free.. read more
