Greenwood CU makes our banking/loan life a breeze. Their hours are good, availability via in person walk ins and telephone are both easy. They are attentive to our needs and help break things down for us to better understand anytime we need it. We have been with them for many many years with no issue that hasn't been resolved. Terrible customer service. I had a savings account here and they closed it without telling me and charged me a $50 fee and put my money in unclaimed property which took me 4 months to get back. It was only $500 but I absolutely do not recommend this bank. read more

This cu is problematic. I made several phone payments thru an automated call system. Even though they read back to me my bank account number it's being drafted from correctly, I got a letter several weeks later that the payment never posted due to an INCORRECT bank account #. This has happened repeatedly. Very odd, but staff has always been pleasant & professional when trying to rectify the issue. read more

This place is terrible. Their phone system says "they treat you like family." This is pure BS. I called to change my mailing address and Elizabeth refused to take my address saying "you have to do it online." I took the time to call them but they won't take the time to process a simple request that other businesses do every day. First impression is that they don't want to be bothered with me. My loan is up to date and payments are made on time but this doesn't matter. The attitude of this employee and this business is really bad. I will never do business with them again nor recommend them to anyone. Customer service is non existentent. Do yourself a favor. DON'T. Horrible Customer service. If you have a problem with your card their customer service is not open on Weekends or Holidays. Not very smart for a bank that locks it down "for your protection" especially when its a business account. Now I don't have access to my business bank account for 2 days. I got my first mortgage from Greenwood Credit union back in 1976.They were the only ones that would give me a mortgage.

My first encounter with auto financing started my banking relationship here years before I actually became more intimately acquainted with this credit union. Great interest rate for my 1994 Accord coupe, had to become a member, got the loan, out the door. ("Sheila" was a sweet little standard two door - like a rocket). Many years (and cars) have passed and I now find myself a full-fledged member with all banking privileges involved. My dearest has been a member here since birth (no exaggeration) so when this East Bay sweetheart permanently set her roots down across "the bridge" in Warwick, we joined our banking forces here. Before banking here, I banked RI Hospital Trust (throwback!), which later became Fleet Bank which then became Bank of America (could've been more in there). I understand the dynamics of financial institutions absorbing one another and business competition. I get it. But - a tad unsettling at times. One of the reason that I wasn't attached to my banking institution and made the leap without hesitation to the husband's bank of choice. Know how many times his bank changed? Zero. For thirty-plus years his bank has always been Greenwood Credit Union. They have one location. No confusion where you are calling because you will always call one of the 70 employees that work at 2669 Post Road (or their loan building next door). How refreshing is that? Um - oodles of refreshment! Most of the employees have serious tenure here and take pride in knowing their customers by name - and their kids. They issue and service their own credit cards (Visa) with competitive rates. The downside to this service is that the service on the card is limited to their banking hours. Not a huge deal, but it has been mildly inconvenient when having a question on my account after hours. When just having my oldest son to tote around, I used to walk down here to do my banking with him in tow.After I was done with whatever I was doing, he would plunk down his random change deposits carried in his little plastic baggie. They would ask for his ID (his library card) and painstakingly count out his deposit (sometimes less than $1) and give him his own deposit slip and a pop (they have root beer - 'nuf said). Very sweet - the service and the lolly. As a business, you treat me well as a customer? Bonus points. You treat me well and do right by my family in tow? It's like getting a Super Mario mushroom. Now that my oldest is well into his primary grade schoolin', they still remember those days - and so do I. That experience makes this bank our family bank and will keep us coming back for years to come. Do they make mistakes? Very rarely. When that's happened, they are super responsive to making it right. If I could give them 0 stars, I would. This bank has been nothing but a nightmare - please avoid them AT ALL COSTS if you want to avoid a headache. It's been three weeks, almost four, since I was approved for an auto loan. They called me, all three weeks, to tell me I was approved. GREAT! However, they never actually came through. It was a big game of he said she said, "let me talk to my manager" and I can't tell you how many times I was told I would get a call back. I'm trying to get a car, my sense of urgency is high. I guess I wasn't important enough because they literally have forgotten me by now. I've maybe called 45 times in the past few weeks and they would keep me on the line 5 minutes after they closed, hung up on me, knowing that I couldn't call back without getting the automated voice message. My grandparents and parents used this bank so I always thought it was the absolute best place to go. The tellers have always been rude but like most reviewers, I never really cared as long as they handled my business competently...until they crossed the line. I had a piggy bank full of mostly $1 bills (a silly family Christmas gift tradition) to cash in, and when I brought them in to deposit, the teller literally asked me what I do for a living that I have that many $1s. If I'm clearly on the phone giving you access to direct funds from another financial institution, why can't you make a note on the file to not push out a negative credit remark? If they don't, they pretend REALLY well, there's no refunds for fees (unless you go to a credit union atm, you get smacked with at least 3.50 in fees), their online banking isn't even a part of their bank. I agree with the person that said if zero stars were available, that would be my rating. Password reset online is nonexistent. You must call them to reset if you make a mistake entering your pw and good luck if it is on a weekend, or worse a holiday weekend. Calling customer service may dump you into voicemail and you may not get a call back if you leave a message. In person and on the phone they exude the feeling that they want to pass the buck and also they are not always "pleasant" I have been with them for more than a decade and I never had the "friendly neighborhood" feeling. Overdraft fees are exorbitant. Savings account APY not worthwhile. Find another Credit Union if you want to feel like a valued customer! read more

I've been a member at GCU for many years. They always go above and beyond every time I call or go there to due a transaction or to speak to someone in the call center. Always professional, friendly, considerate and willing to help you out and answer any questions you may have. Greenwood Credit Union (GCU) is Rhode Island's true hidden jewel when it comes to banking. I could go on and on about how they go above and beyond but will keep it short and sweet. First when I wanted to take my business of ten years to the next level they took the time to understand the concept and found a way to say yes where every other bank was just looking for a way to say no. This other group of banks included my previous credit union where I Harbored my money and faithfully paid that business loan every month for ten years plus. The other thing that stands out about GCU is that they totally punch above their weight limit. During the onset of COVID and the PPP roll out I can say with certainty that not a single institution worked harder to help as many people as possible whether they were current clients or not. Even though the team at GCU aren't the type to tell you how hard they work, it was easy to see that they took an all hands on deck approach and were working 10-12 hour days seven days a week to get the job done. Even though I could continue singing their praises, I'm stopping here. The last thing to share is that my early New Year's Resolution is to consolidate all other non GCU bank accounts I have elsewhere with GCU since they show me time and time again how much they care. read more

I absolutely hate this place, the many times I have been here I have never had anything positive to say. Whenever I ask the teller a question about my auto-loan they refer me to the front desk. When I go to the front desk, they tell me to see the teller.... its like nobody knows the answer but pawns it off on somebody else. Example, I ask a teller for a 10 day payoff quote (common practice, if you are paying your car off you receive a quote good to pay within ten days). The teller responded: "Well this is how much you owe now and your interest is 12.45$ a day so you can add that together and get the payoff". It's ok if you don't know the answer to something but half-assing everything is not the way to run a bank. The worst part of it all is the attitude, especially the younger tellers. I never knew something as simple as "can I help you" can sound soooo offensive (I guess it can when it sounds like a 15 year old sarcastic valley girl is saying it). Thank god I paid off my car because this place is horrible. Finally its like I stepped back into the 80's whenever I walk into that building. I have been a member for my whole life...enough said. But let's continue for all you hungry Yelpers. This is not a bank, this is a credit union. That means there is only ONE and boy are they good. They have excellent rates and super staff. They treat you like family and always ask how you and your family are doing. All my brothers and sisters have accounts there, all my kids have accounts there. When you call, it is easy to get a live person. Try that with some of those banks. The tellers are fun and fast. Kids love the lollipops too. They are at the corner of the neighbor and are the cornerstone of the neighborhood. I truly believe they treat everyone well, but I think the neighbors get a little extra TLC. So if you are reading this and you live in Massachusetts, this is probably not the place for you. If you live in Warwick...take your money out of the other ripoff banks and bring it here....then you will be saying enough said....they are the best. read more

Ive been a member of this CU for about 4 years now.. And have always been so pleased. They are an extremely personable staff and WILL go out of their way to help. I am also one of those people who like to keep things close to home and local.. I enjoy seeing my neighbors succeed. I have banked with other chain-like banks before and had also worked for one of the most familiar. To them nothing is personal and they are truly only about up-selling their customers. The reason for 4 and not 5 stars would be because of my only complaint, which is like some of the others I read.. The younger staff members and how they can be really rude and almost come off as if they were judging. Really its only one person that ive encountered a couple of times. But still not enough to make me want to switch anything up!!! read more

I am not fussy about, if the people are extra nice to talk with me or not, all I care about is, if they are careful with my money. Unfortunately the employees are not careful with other people's money. I lost $500 dollars due to their employee's negligence and the credit union is not willing to own it. With all the other qualities, GCU is also good at playing blame game. It took a lot of hard work to earn 500 dollars and lot of tears to loose them at the hands of Greenwood Credit Union in Warwick, RI. Don't do it! Unless you are or wish to be treated like a dirtbag which I am not, stay away. I wish I had stayed away. I have all my loans and credit cars payed directly out of the same account, which I never have a problem with but them. I hardly ever pay any bill by check, but my credit card with them I can't?? I have a checking account with overdraft protection. It pays anything. But them? And now I'm gonna be late?? And they can't take a payment over the phone and expect me to run around. Never had a late payment with anyone but them. Then I get talked to like I'm a price of garbage who can't understand why? I'm the wrong one to disrespect. I have two other credit unions that I have accounts with and this one was absolutely the worst. It was all fine and dandy at the beginning, but... I joined about a year ago with a loan. I have direct deposit going in to an account that I pay said loan with, however, I like to make additional principal payments when I can. This was not a problem up until earlier this year. I would use the mobile app to make a deposit, wait until it cleared and then make the payment. They no longer allow mobile deposits, which means I need to go in to a branch. Yes, they have shared banking with other credit unions, but the are only open during the week, and not after 5:00 PM. That makes things difficult for those of use who work traditional hours. There are not really many additional banks to go to, either. I'm thinking I might want to rethink where I have my loan. Otherwise, the staff was very pleasant to work with, so at least there's that. read more

We had an auto loan through them. Paid the loan off in 2008. Fast forward to 2013. I needed proof that I had paid off the loan. I go to Greenwood Credit Union, the woman that helped me went out of her way to get the document I needed from them. My first experience with this CU was with the purchase of my Toyota from Tarbox Motors in 2010. Their finance department reviewed various auto loan rates with me and Greenwood was very competitive. My second experience was a refinance of my home mortgage. My primary lender wouldn't lower the rate for a refinance so I shopped the rate around and Greenwood was the clear winner. The whole process took less than 30 days. I like to keep my business local whenever possible and avoid the Big Chains wether it be Banking or Eating out or Shopping. read more

After receiving a mortgage from greenwood credit Union over the years I have paid a couple of extra thousand with my taxes to reduce my monthly payments they made some sort of mistake with no increase on taxes or insurance payments Incorporated has gone up $300 per month without any explanation or any reasoning their response after speaking to the tellers to customer service mortgage originators and the president was they are going to extend my mortgage and additional five years to make things work to bring down my mortgage payment to back to where originally was so they could continue to make money for an extra 5 years in the goal that I have was to have a thousand dollar mortgage not a $1,500 mortgage I cannot rent the property because nobody would rent that for that price and also I have to sell it and vacate my house now because greenwood credit Union is practicing unfair bookkeeping or accountant practices. Due to greenwood credit Unions good customer service and immoral banking practices they have forced me and my family out of our own property that we've owned and they're not intelligent enough to figure out their own mortgages I've been calling for months no response not even from the president of the bank read more

Don't dare try to join online! Terrible customer service should be their motto. I tried to open a membership and a 5 year CD online. The first attempt was thru an ACH funds transfer. When I went to verify the two small deposits to authentic my account the site locked up with no reply. I repeated and the site gave me errors so I called and was told the application was voided, if I wished I could apply again.( a good 20+ minute process complete with credit security questions) They did not want to here anything of their site's failure. I transferred my funds to a checking account and applied again online. This time I printed and mailed checks along with the signature papers, copies of me and my wifes drivers licenses. About a week later I get a letter by snail mail that my application was rejected because of a security lock on my credit bureau, please apply at the office.(most of 300+ miles away...lol) I called to ask why you need to check my credit to make a 5 year CD Deposit and why I was never called or emailed to unlock it. They said they don't have time to call or email and they reply by mail only. They said maybe I was trying to launder money(sure to buy a 60 month cd????) They also told me my checks were already mailed back to me(9 days after the letter and they are still not returned) STAY AWAY or you will likely regret it! read more

Greenwood Credit Union has no interest in acting in the best interest of their customers. I had a car loan out with Greenwood and decided I would pay it off in one lump some after about a year. I wrote out a check for what I thought to be the total amount owed and that was that. I never heard from Greenwood again. This was in 2008. This spring I started the process of looking for a home. Upon checking my credit, I found out that Greenwood had sent me to collections because there was a small difference in the amount my final check was for and the amount owed on the bill. The figure was something less than $10. I have moved since the initial transaction and changed my address with the post office. I never changed my address with Greenwood, because I didn't think I had to. They sent two certified letters to my old address and both were returned. They never made any other attempt to get in touch with me that I am aware of. They ended up writing off the small amount as a profit-and-loss. This lowered my credit score from close to 800 to just over 700 and put me into a hire interest rate bracket on my mortgage. When I contacted Greenwood they were rude and completely unwilling to help. They offered to waive the amount owed, but it was too late in regards to how it affected my credit score. Why couldn't they have done this BEFORE they sent me to collections? I wasn't hiding...they could have easily looked me up and found me. Instead, they showed a complete disregard for my best interest. I know that I could have done things differently. I understand the importance of staying on top of my credit score and will be more diligent about this in the future. Despite this, Greenwood Credit Union is not an institution that is acting in the best interest of their customers. Find some place else to do business. read more

I've been a member of greenwood for almost 11 years. This month I decided to pay some bills out of my savings acct like I've done in the past. Earlier this week I start getting emails that my payments have been returned. I called and spoke to cust. svc. and was told that federal regs only allow 6 electronic transactions per month from a savings account. The rep even admitted that she could guarantee I wasn't notified as other members called for the same thing. Apparently this started 2 yrs ago. My problem is not with the regulations (OK its a ridiculous reg ) it's that Greenwood couldn't at least put a notification that will let you know you are reaching or at the limit?????? It's not that hard to write this into their software, even an email would suffice. So now I have to deal with returned payment and late fees. Today I went in and closed my accounts, not even a word from the teller as to why, is there something we can do to keep you, nothing. Keep it up Greenwood and that nice new lobby will only be appreciated by the employees while their cleaning out their desks. read more
