The more we read about it though, the more it seemed like a wonderful place for our son. The calming atmosphere, and wonderful routine are things that our son took to immediately. He is a cautious little boy, and very wary of people and spaces, Angel Care has brought out the absolute best in him, and in turn, helped us learn as parents, as we can see first hand how he responds to the slightest changes made. The directness, Catherine Valenti has a remarkable understanding of children and their needs. He has developed so much confidence and his language skills are incredible. He sets his place every day, he shakes hands, he puts things away (within reason- he is a toddler after all!) and although he still will act out sometimes (toddler) he is able to vocalize his frustrations and we, as parents have learned to validate them and work through them alongside our son. You can see him being proud of himself and the work he has done, and it continues on at home. One of my favorite aspects of Angel Care is that they go outside all year round, and spend lots of time outdoors having messy, muddy, glorious outdoor free time. Inside there is calm, order and routine, and outside lessons continue in a way that seems to be lost in many other places. There is a strawberry patch where my son picks and eats berries. This simple act is so meaningful, as he learns where they come from, how they form from flowers, and that he must wait until they are ripe to pick and eat them. Small life lessons in the fresh air lead to rosy cheeks and long afternoon naps! I simply cannot imagine a better place for my children's early education.

I cannot say enough wonderful things about this school. As a public school educator for the last 17…read moreyears and a certified reading specialist, I was extremely particular about the school that my child would attend. I knew that I wanted a school that practiced the Montessori philosophy with fidelity as it aligns with everything I have learned as best practices in my years of Orton-Gillingham training and graduate education in literacy development. The teachers at Montessori Children's House have the level of knowledge and expertise that I aspire to, and they are masters at their craft in every sense of the word. As a parent, I have seen how my five-year-old--who had been a reluctant learner--has learned how to read words, sentences, and books and write in cursive. She has been completing addition and subtraction problems with four-digit numbers as well as multiplication equations. She has learned about continents, countries, and cultures, with regular presentations on specific holidays such as Diwali in India, St. Lucia's Day in Sweden, St. Nicholas Day in Denmark, the Lunar New Year in China, Purim, Holi, and the Bengali New Year delivered by class parents to name a few. My child has held a snake and eventually, the snake's babies, while also caring for guinea pigs and raising chicks and butterflies. She studies Spanish vocabulary, creative movement, sewing, weaving, and painting. While this school offers a phenomenal academic education, the lessons they offer in grace and courtesy, executive functioning skills like planning, organization, goal setting, sustained focus and attention, and self-management (tenets that are built into the Montessori approach) are invaluable. I know in my heart of hearts, as an educator, that this type of education could have impacted my own students' lives greatly, and it has been one of the greatest opportunities that I have been able to give to my child; I know that this school is setting her up for academic, social, and emotional success long-term. Perhaps my favorite aspect of this school, however, is the tight-knit community that we have here. My child has made friends with children who are kind, curious, imaginative, joyful, and from countries all around the world. The parents are equally kind, curious, and joyful, and we have enjoyed many school events at local parks conversing and nurturing our children together. Enrolling your child in this school is an investment in their future that is truly priceless.

The school seems behind the times on Montessori education, especially as it relates to psycho-social development. AND the school hasn't bothered to replace its lead water feed. No kid should have to worry about lead levels in the water fountain.
