It is one of the few remaining Starbucks to follow the old store layout/colour scheme, which I haven't seen since 2017, the store still has a nice feel to it. I decided to try the new Strawberry Acai Refresha, my drink was pretty good, the baristas were also friendly and helped offer recommendations, such as making the drink with lemonade instead of water, which make the drink all the more refreshing. The pricing can be slightly higher here, due to this being a franchise store, which is frustrating, they do however support mobile ordering and Starbucks Rewards, which isn't too bad. 3* - Solid, average Starbucks store. The staff are very efficient so it is a good place to go on your lunch hour.

Every lunchtime, and even at non-peak times, this place has people spilling out of every doorway and onto the main road - it gets seriously busy. Obviously, this is a good sign, but it can get frustrating when you queue up for what seems like an age, and then struggle to find anywhere to sit once you finally have your sandwich and coffee. If you can find somewhere to sit, then it's a glorious experience - inside they have cushty couches and loads of art work on the walls from local talent. Outside the little chairs provide a nice place for you to people watch while you munch on what will undoubtedly be a tasty sandwich and drink the city's best espresso. If there were more places to sit, it would most definitely get five stars.

This is another area where all the university's cafes fall down, however much one might expect them to do the sustainable, environmentally-friendly, fair thing. Alas, that's not where the story ends. Some of the service is top-notch. Some of it is atrocious and inept. The barista making my latte moved with the urgency who had just stumbled out of bed after a late night. He misjudged the amount of soy milk he needed for my latte, only realising when he had added it to the espresso. Rather than ditch everything and start again like the best obsessive baristas might, issuing a barrage of apologies, he simply steamed some more soy latte and added it to his previous creation. Worst of all, I noticed that he didn't purge the steam arm when he had finished, meaning the next lucky customer would likely be enjoying their coffee with an infusion of old soy milk. Ewww. That is bad enough in my view, but there's a little more: spotting that they sell North Star coffee in bags (for £8.50-£9), I asked if they could grind it for me. After all, they sell V60 filter cones, paper and grinders. They're obviously serious about their coffee, so grinding beans should be as easy for them as it has been for every coffee shop across the world that I've asked of this favour, right? Apparently not, forcing me to trek into town to find a coffee shop able to both sell good coffee ground or be able to grind beans. Very disappointing.

Of course it's the cakes that make this place special, it's early days yet but it seems there will always be a selection of very tempting home made cakes and you can eaven see some of the decorative work taking place behind the counter. They are usually pretty cheap as well, with sausage rolls at 60p, if you are starving but trying to make sure you have enough bus fare, then that's a pretty good option. My favourite bit about this shop though is the staff. They are happy-go-lucky and friendly, which is more than I can say of the other Greggs stores that I have been in. The last time I wandered past the shop was empty and the girls behind the counter were having some kind of dance off, and when they noticed that I had spotted them, creased up in laughter. Joy and cakes in Chapel Allerton! Makes it that little bit sweeter when you pop in for a bite.

Thus I reckon Mochaccino is probably the best best for cheap hot drinks and butties in Cookridge.

The name suggests something slightly continental but the appearance is more greasy spoon.
