I recently went to see Dr. Gregory Salerno after suffering through a traumatic life event. Dr. Salerno is my Psychologist, on my mental healthcare team, who specializes in General Psychology and Attention Deficit Disorder (ADHD). At the time, I was really having trouble understanding the feelings and symptoms that I was experiencing. Dr. Salerno immediately knew what was causing my symptoms, and he quickly diagnosed me as having Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PSTD). I remember being very confused at the time, because I wasn't very familiar with PTSD, still I believed Dr. Salerno's diagnosis was correct and that I was suffering from PTSD. I ended up reaching out to another Psychologist on my mental healthcare team, one who specializes in helping patients with regards to stress and depression, among his other specialties. My Psychologist gave me a test to see if I was suffering from PTSD. Sure enough, when the test results came back, it was clear that I was suffering from PTSD and I was officially diagnosed with having Complex PTSD Disability. I then went on to reach out to yet another Psychologist on my mental healthcare team, one who specializes in Anxiety Treatment Services. I made it clear that I was seeking further, more detailed, testing for PTSD, so as to know what specifically caused my Complex PTSD Disability, and so that I could get treatment for my Complex PTSD Disability as well. My Psychologist who specializes in anxiety treatment, referred me to another Psychologist who specializes in both diagnosing, and treating, PTSD. Very soon after being diagnosed with Complex PTSD Disability, I went on to suffer from one of the worst experiences of my life, with what is known as a PTSD Panic Attack. It was very excruciatingly painful and scary. I immediately reached out to the Psychologist who specializes in diagnosing and treating PTSD that I was referred to, and sure enough, she confirmed what I knew in my heart to be true, that I was suffering from several "layers" of PTSD (called Complex PTSD), that it was caused by several different traumatic life events that I had suffered through recently. I'm now attempting to get the treatment that I need for my Complex PTSD Disability. I'll forever be thankful to Dr. Salerno, and to my entire mental healthcare team, for all that they've done to help me in diagnosing me, testing me, referring me to a PTSD specialist, and soon treating me for this debilitating Complex PTSD Disability. I'll never forget all that Dr. Salerno has done to help me throughout the entire time that I've been a patient of his, especially what he did for me most recently, when he initially diagnosed my PTSD Disability. I've already begun to see an improvement in my life, and I'm beginning to get my life back again, after all of the time that I've wasted suffering from this horrible Disability, which has sadly been going on for several years now. It's very sad to think of all of the time that I've wasted in my life, suffering in excruciating pain, while also completely baffled as to why I was suffering in such a way, and blaming myself the entire time, in the process. Dr. Salerno has once again succeeded in diagnosing me, and thus dramatically changing my life for the better. Thank you again Dr. Salerno. Dr. Salerno is pretty awesome. He is very patient, non-judgmental, easy going, and understanding. What I like most about Dr. Salerno is that I always feel comfortable talking with him. A previous reviewer said that Dr. Salerno does not take payments during his sessions. He takes payments during his sessions now. I also know that he still takes insurance. read more

I concur with the other reviewer about not returning phone calls (David L). I can to Dr Salerno because he is the person my bariatric surgeon sends patients to for a psych clearance. We share the same sense of humor and I thought I would try him or therapy. The type of therapy he does is called "Talk Therapy" which is not what I needed. I didn't realize this until months later because I had so much to get off my chest that initially I did feel better. Here is where it went south: He talks about himself and his problems. This is a basic no-no in therapy. It is crossing a professional/ethical boundary not to mention inappropriate. I don't want to hear about his ex wife/girlfriend or his addiction to shopping. When it came to completing the bariatric clearance, I had left him at least 3 voicemails and I never heard from him. My surgeons office called him to get on his case about it and within an hour of them calling his office, he called me. Weird! When I called him on the not returning my calls, he handled it quite poorly. He became insistent that he did call me back almost to the point of being defensive. I told him "well, I don't know what to tell you as I have no record of you calling me." He became even more insistent as if it would make his voicemails suddenly appear in my voicemail inbox (as supposed to saying something like "that is so strange, do you have an alternative number/ I am sorry that that happened"). When I came to his office, his patient files were spread everywhere on his desk and stacked at least four inches high. Yeah, I am sure you called me (rolling eyes). read more

I was hoping to have a better experience with him given the other reviews. I have called him 3 times and left 3 voice mails over the course of the last week hoping to start working with him. He is yet to return a call. Regardless of his skills as a Doctor, I can't endorse a business that doesn't return calls. read more

Dr. Salerno is literally the best at what he does. I see him for couples counseling with my fiancé/wife for premarital counseling and he is just very down to earth and not afraid to step into a dispute between you and your spouse and doesn't just sit on the side nodding his head. He has very helpful ideas and tools to suggest for better communication. Not to mention he's hilarious. read more

There was a review about Dr.Salerno and that he is not very good in returning phone calls. In my experience with him, he received my voicemail and got back to me within that afternoon, which is quite responsive, especially for a busy psychologist. He was also very understanding and non-judgemental. He definitely runs on time for his appointments and seems very well educated and experienced in His field. I recommend him highly! read more

I must say it's probably hard for people to write a review about a therapist because they think it might be embarrassing but to me it's not. It's really about talking to someone that can understand everything and give you the best treatment. I called Dr. Greg Salerno one day because I was stuck in a small rut, and he was able to give me quick advice over the phone and I went with it and then scheduled an appt with him the following week. He's very flexible and will make time to meet with you, but if you call the day of to cancel an appt, he will charge you your regular co pay for that missed appt. I went to Greg Salerno twice for some minor issues. I went to get some insight and let out my thoughts and I felt really comfortable talking to Dr. Salerno. He's not like most therapists that just sit there, listen, and write notes down. He'll actually talk, confirm what you're saying to make sure he understands, and he'll give his honest opinion about the situation without being judgmental or even sugar coating it, but he's also pretty funny. He'll see both sides of the story and not only confirm what that person did may have been wrong or right, but he also told me what I could've done different or how to approach things differently to make it better. I was 100% honest about everything so I asked for advice and got his 100% honest opinion back and I took his advice and he was absolutely right. I finally feel happy and more positive about my relationship thanks to him. Dr. Salerno, I made sure that "thorn" in the relationship was gone. I initially just came to him because a one on one meeting was suppose to help me get surgery cleared by my insurance. I had the attitude that I just had to jump through the hoops, and roll with the motions... I was so wrong. He is amazing, and was empathetic and understanding to my thoughts and feelings. He suggested helpful ideas to my problems and circumstances. I understand what people are saying that it's hard to get a hold of him (he doesn't have a secretary), but i really didn't have that issue. All I have to say, was the meeting was very helpful, and if I lived in the area, I would seek him out again. I highly recommend him. read more
