Clean, friendly dog park! Will definitely bring my pup again. Wish it was a little larger but definitely great for somebody like me with no yard

Loved this Gretna Bark Park. Has everything you need to allow your pup to socialize. The grounds are well kept and not swampy. Plenty of space to run and explore as well as closed in and safe for pups.

Beautiful and large area with great agility toys, including steps, ramps, hurdles, and barrels. The only downfall this visit was that they had run out of poop bags. We brought our own as always but some people didn't have any to clean up after their pups.

The rain brings in a huge mud puddle which no dog can resist!! It was great for what our dog needed but not very much grass. There is a hose that needs to be replaced. At all times, even if it's the middle of summer and there hasn't been rain for a week, there are three large, green, smelly mud pits that are never filled or attended to by staff. These holes with standing water are a health hazard (bacteria, mosquitoes and such) but also a nuisance for dog owners to keep their dogs out of. There is no shade and only a few patches of grass. In addition, the wash facilities for the dogs are kept turned off. There are hoses there but no way for us to use them. I've seen many patrons now brining their own "keys" (purchased from the hardware store) to turn the hose on. Some dog owners will routinely use the adjoining baseball field for their dogs, as it's well maintained with cut grass and no standing water puddles. It's a shame that the neighborhood had to wait so long for a park that is so terribly maintained. There are no other off-leash parks anywhere close which encourages dog owners to use "illegal" spaces for their pets such as open parks and baseball fields. I've been hassled by police for doing this, even with a fixed, registered and well behaved dog. The efforts that the city puts into bullying/ticketing dog owners who use those illegal spaces is useless if they fail to provide decent and legal off-leash parks for our use.

The main feature is a 1.8-mile paved loop that routes you under gorgeous ancient live oaks and past peaceful lagoons (you might even catch a glimpse of the swans!). For those looking for a softer foot strike or a good trail run, there's a 2.2-mile dirt path around the perimeter--just a heads up that it gets pretty muddy after it rains. Budgeting about an hour is perfect if you just want to soak up the scenery and wildlife. Alternatively, there is a beautifully maintained golf course right in the center. Whether you're logging miles, taking a meditative stroll, or playing 18 holes, this park is an absolute must-visit.

The exercise stations along the way are a great bonus for a full-body workout. Parking on Magazine Street or St. Charles Avenue is convenient, and the park's location near Loyola and Tulane Universities makes it easily accessible. There are water stations available, and the ponds and duck-watching areas are always a treat. The loop is about 1.67 miles, and I enjoy going around twice for a great workout. The park is always well maintained and kept in beautiful condition. A true NOLA gem!

The downtown park used to have a beautiful oak tree at its center which collapsed (over the course of the summer) due to termite infestation. The uptown side does have kid equipment that seems to be in good repair. My only real criticism besides general upkeep...is for the other dog owners. Bring a bag! No one likes their kiddies to step (or worse) in mess. Really, I'd say these parks are a 3.5 so I'll round up since my pup is so gleeful while chasing sticks there.

On the west side there is a smattering of old school swings, an awesome metal slide, a ginormous oak, a local fruit vendor ("the fruit man") M-F 9-5 and oodles of flat grass covered park. There's also a sizey palm like 60-80 ft tall that is home to many green parrots. On the east side there's flat, grass covered space framed by mature crepe myrtles and an old out of commission full length basketball court. What prompted me to write this review was just this last week the court has been adopted by skaters - real deal skateboard skaters. Awesome. Since Katrina Samuel Square has received more positive use than ever. All levels of grade school football practice here as do 20 something kickball leagues. And now skaters! And I applaud it. I bring my kids here all the time, but I wish my property tax dollars would better maintain the equipment and site.

It does get very sunny so bring sunscreen, hats, and shades for sure! From the food trucks, i ordered onion rings from Bubs Nola and they were amazing! Definitely would recommend to visit if you never have been! So beautiful and spacious!

The river's out here flexing its majestic width while I'm demolishing a lobster roll so good I considered writing it poetry. Food trucks rotate like a dream: crab rolls one day, fried chicken sandwiches the next that had me ready to propose. Brought the dog--he sniffed every inch like he owned the place, blanket down, leash rules ignored in true NOLA fashion. Porta-potties? Surprisingly clean and drama-free. Sunset turns the sky cotton-candy pink, seagulls eye your fries like tiny mobsters, and mosquitoes throw parties if you forget bug spray.
