3-star rating update until they fix some things!! The water spray that my dog used to LOVE has been broken for almost a year. I emailed to ask when it would be fixed and did not receive an answer. They also haven't put tennis balls in the park since COVID, and when I asked about that, they used COVID as their excuse in 2024. So I've been bringing my tennis balls. And last, they replaced the shower nozzles and hoses with very short hoses and nozzles that spray water EVERYWHERE. Not sure who thought of these "upgrades," but they suck. Just really silly inconveniences when you're already paying per year to use the park. read more

My pup, Lestat, gives this place the full five-stars! He loves the large open space and gentle hills for running around with other pups. After a rain shower, he loves to walk in the the shallow puddles under the majestic old oaks near the main entrance. I love the walking path lined with crate myrtles that circles the park, as it is trips to the City Bark that help me get my steps in. We appreciate that it is open late and well lit, as it allows us to go to park later in the evening when temperatures are lower. Registering was easy and I happily will pay the low yearly fee for this great amenity. My only complaint would be that the entrance needs more regular maintenance, as you can imagine dogs can get it dirty quickly and odors linger. I would like to see some volunteer opportunities on the weekends to help make it the best stop for dogs and their human companions! read more

Love this dog park! $55/year pass required. You apply online through the city park office, then they can mail the pass to you or you can pick it up. The pass is necessary to unlock the front gate. Dogs must be up to date on vaccinations and neutered/spayed to be approved for the pass. I've noticed that people behave better at this park than other dog parks - they actually watch and pickup after their dogs. I've also seen others make sure everyone is following the rules (I.e., not letting someone bring in leashed dogs). The park has a paved pathway along the perimeter, bathrooms, a wash station, pools, a playground, and even a massive hill in the middle! The feel of the park has changed since covid however - less people are congregating to talk - most people keep their distance from one another - about half are masked. So the social aspect for humans has been lessened. Still a great way to get some sunshine and exercise for your dog! Note that the park is NOT at 1 palm drive - that is the city park office where you pick up your pass. The park itself is at the intersection of Magnolia and Diagonal drive (close to the softball fields). read more

It's needed, certainly, with the large canine population around here. The park is large, and there isn't anything to stop a mischievous dog from having a good time. There are plenty of tennis balls lying around, water, a playground, a separate small dog yard, and plenty of playmates to be found. And of course bags. The park is paid, and the keycard entry seems to not work on a somewhat regular basis, though I get in somehow. Even with their fairly generous hours, it's hard to take full advantage of the park simply because the weather is so unbearable and it has only modest shade. As well outfitted as it is, the real thing I wish the entrance fee purchased is some way of cooling down. That's New Orleans for you. read more

My niece is a bit stand-offish when it comes to socialization, and when I brought her with a friend of mine and their dog, we went away from everyone else, and our girls did their own thing while we chatted. Yes, my niece is a four legged furry lovable dog. I have two human nephews, but lets be real. The dog is my favorite. I haven't brought my new four legged nephew yet, but he is young and can get carried away sometimes. I will wait until he gets a bit older before bringing him. I am not a member, but my friend is. If I get my own dog, I will be more than happy to pay the necessary fees and bring it here to play. The people are friendly, and I like the play areas for the dogs. This is a nice fenced off area in City Park, just north of I-10 between Marconi and Wisner, more specifically where Diagonal Drive and Magnolia Drive meet. Again, this is a great park that is well maintained, and you must pay for an annual pass for admission. That is nice because the funds go to maintenance of the dog park. If you want something nice to remain nice, it must be supported financially. The fees are not bad here. read more

The funny thing about City Bark is that it seems to have more rules and restrictions (that are actually enforced) than the entire city of New Orleans. That aside, this is the best dog park I've ever seen. I'm used to what seem to be extremely filthy "dog runs" in New York. These are typically dirt pits that offer NY dogs a backyard they'll never have. The entire area reeks of dog shit and are rather dreary in comparison, now that I think about it. NOLA City Bark has two areas, a separate park for small dogs. Note: it seems no small dog wants any part of it, judging by my time here on Sunday afternoon and I don't blame them as it reminds me of the petite clothing department: subpar pickins. WTF? Anyway, here small dogs play with the big boys, why not? The regular area is huge and has lots of greenery, plus sandy areas and a wash station. They have created a great place - a separate place for small dogs & a BIG park for the big boys!!! They have created it so very well - built up so it drains well cuz you know it rains alot here - so that reduces the mud puddles. Great park - and I'm especially a fan because of the exclusivity they establish by requiring annual permit applications. I think this increases the thoughtfulness of park-goers a little bit. However, it's really nice to know that all the dogs allowed in are up to date on their vaccinations and are spayed/neutered. The area is large and there's plenty of room to run in addition to lots of chairs for fur-moms and fur-dads. Bonuses in the large dog area: the fire hydrant in the large dog area by the 2x bone shaped pools can become a fountain, there's a small sand pit, and people have left balls scattered around. In the small dog area: there's a dedicated area of shade and a small obstacle run course. Small dogs were present on both sides and seemed to be enjoying themselves. They also provide poop bags in case you forgot to bring your own. Tips: they sell membership by the calendar year - so you should just buy a pass in November to get your monies worth. Wow! this is a dog park and everything else is nonsense! I wish I had my pups with me here so they could enjoy this amazing facility. I had never been before the storm so I can't compare, but I've been frequenting recently with my friend's dog and my, this park has got it all! Where to start, its super spread and spacious. If you're one of those people who calls a fat rat a dog, then there's a gated section for smaller dogs. I wouldn't bother though, we went when the weather got nice and there must've been 30+ dogs running around, all getting along, from a Great Dane to a French Bulldog... lots of fun to watch. They also have kiddie pools, low water fountains, plenty of chairs for the owners to relax, an agility course so you can train your dog to jump over hoops and really nice hoses (the kind you find at the groomers') If its true that dogs go to heaven, then I'm going to make a bold assumption and say that it was modeled after it. read more

This is hands down the nicest dog park I've ever seen! As another reviewer mentioned, the hours were difficult to pick up a pass, which kind of sucks. I do appreciate the office requiring proof of vaccination when you purchase a pass, this makes me feel a lot more comfortable bringing my dog and makes it totally worth the small annual fee. If anything the park is TOO BIG. I brought a book w/ the intentions of reading while my dog played but I ended up walking around so that I could keep an eye on him and pick up after him. There is a small dog section for smaller breeds and puppies and the big dogs tend to rough house in the middle of the park, allowing plenty of space around the perimeter for less social dogs to do their own thing, or just relax. There are also agility courses, pools and just other really cool stuff if you have an active dog. Also, there is ample parking for guests which is nice. I love this place...More importantly, my three dogs love this place. They enjoy being able to go out, run and sniff among their furry friends. The dogs and people always seem to be in a good mood at City Bark. Must be something about seeing our four-legged buddies having the time of their life... Love that City Bark is an off-leash park for dogs, with double-gated entry. I feel like my dogs are safe when they are at City Bark. Most people are really good about cleaning up after their pets, so it is fairly clean. They have a number of waste disposal and water fountains for both people and dogs. Gorgeous park! My girls love being off leash and making new friends. There is a water area for the dogs to cool off; an agility area; a paved walking track; a large clearing with plenty of tennis balls to fetch; a separate small dog area that is closed off from the main area; hills and even an area to give your babies a bath after a romp in the dirt. This park is fully gated and has a double gate for entrance and exit just in case! Also, you can't beat the price of membership, (you get an electronic key card for access). The price is $35 per calendar year for a family up to 3 dogs. This place gives my babies a place to work off their energy and be more social. I couldn't be happier!!! City Bark is reopening this weekend, after making some repairs and being closed for awhile. You can't get in without a permit, and you have to go pick up your permit during business hours, which is a little inconvenient. But I also appreciate that because I doubt that people who fail to vaccinate their dogs or have them fixed will bother to fill out the application, lie on it, pay the fee, and go pick up a pass. So the process promotes a safe, healthy play area for my spoiled dog. She's the cutest dog ever, of course. There's lots of space to run around, and picnic tables to hang out at to relax in the shade while your dogs play, and an agility course. Absolutely lives up to all the hype! I've been taking my furballs to Cabrini Park in the FQ bc I was too lazy to go through the registration process for City Bark. While Cabrini is a fine place to let the pups burn off some energy, City Bark is leaps and bounds superior. It is spacious and very clean and well maintained. I didn't see a single pile o' poo anywhere! There are so many extra tennis balls all over the place that I don't worry when I forget to bring my own. Lots of water fountains. Love the built in pools for cooling off. Love that there's a space to hose off the dogs before leaving. Basically, it's every pooch's dream park. I especially appreciate their effort to keep the space secure with the keycard entry, security cameras and lots of lighting. Gives me peace of mind as a petite female bringing the dogs on my own the majority of the time. read more

City Bark definitely lives up to it's nickname as the country club for dogs! The grounds are kept incredibly clean which is a huge plus. You will need a permit and access key to enter - the permit is $48/year for one dog. The dog park has two entrances, one for small dogs and one for large dogs. We usually start in the small dog area but end up in the large dog area to walk around the paved pathway that loops around the perimeter of the park. Both small and large dog parks have water stations, plenty of waste bags and pools for the pups to cool off. The larger area has a wash station and a newly installed play equipment area. When I heard that this park was being built I was ecstatic. I donated money and was ready to become a member. I didn't register until August of 2010 because I was at another college in another state, so it didn't make sense to get the permit if I was never going to go. When I got there, there were no signs showing where to register. So that was a little annoying - just finding the darn place to get the permit. Finally, as I was filling out the paperwork, the lady helping me told me that it would expire August of 2011. Four months later, in December, I receive an email notifying me that my permit was set to expire. I was very upset. I went on their Facebook Page and wrote that I was misguided into thinking that the permit would last me a whole year. Someone wrote me back, and very rudly told me that I should have known better. Apparently, this person worked for the Park. The manager in charge found out about the rude remark and completely went out of his way to apologize to me. He told me to fill out another application and that he would waive the permit fee because of the employee's rude remark. I just mailed my application, and I'm excited to go again. My dog may not be the most active or social dog, but I feel as a dog owner it's very important to be active with your pet and take them around. It's a great place to have your dogs play and be safe. After all the issues I had with this place, I am pleased at the results, and all to a great manager that went the extra mile to make sure I was satisfied. read more

This dog park is totally awesome! We signed up after a bark bazaar event and my pitbull loves it here. He always runs straight to the dog pools! The park is very well kept. There is always balls available for the dogs to play with. I love the walking trail around the park! We had never taken our dog to a dog park before and I was very hesitant. It is one of the best things about NOLA. We come here a couple times a week. I am so thankful for the washing stations for after our fun filled day! The country club for your spoiled doggie! This is a beautifully maintained park for the most social of dogs, be advised you must be a member with a gate key to get in. I think memberships start around 50 per dog but if you've got some hyperactive animals this would be well worth it. read more

The middle of the park (the pit) can get crowded and stagnant, seems to be where most dog fights happen. I like to keep walking or head to some of the outer areas to avoid trouble. read more

I signed up my dog for City Bark and she loves it. This is the nicest dog park I have ever seen. The ones in Austin are mostly dirt pits with a cracked green plastic chair or two. The first time I went, I was't aware of the registration. Although it takes a little time, it is definitely necessary in this city to keep a pleasant atmosphere. A nominal fee and proof of current vaccinations and spay/neuter is a great way of keeping irresponsible pet owners from ruining the place. I don't think I would ever bathe my dog at the park, but I see that those amenities are often used. The planners of the park did such a great job complete with: Walking path Varied terrain so you can watch you dog from little hills as they run around Agility equipment Great benches and seating (no cracked green plastic chairs) They have a designated small dog area for dogs under 25 lbs. My dog is ~20 but likes to play in the big dog area. I was cracking up reading one of the negative reviews on here from a lady complaining about it ruining her greyhound's experience because smaller dogs are in the big dog park. I have been to many dog parks in my life and seen all different breeds and sized dogs play together and that is the craziest thing I've ever heard... I haven't been at night but the park is open until 9pm and it looks like there are high powered lights to light up the whole park. So far I have only positive things to say about City Bark. I wish the Audubon Institute would build something similar in Audubon Park so we didn't have to go so far. read more

I am a two (2) yearmember and I love the place... There is something for everyone and all dogs.. There is a small area for the small animals that's larger than most cities entire dog parks.. The Large dog area has a paved trail that circles the park, many drinking stations that serve both humans and dogs.. There is a hilly area for throwing balls, a small bone shaped above ground dog pool where your pet can take a quick dip to cool off and a few out of the way areas like under a big tree or on a small hill that provide you a little seclusion if you want it.. Personally, I recommend sitting on a chair on top of one of the hills and letting your furry friend wonder around and meet new friends... I was driving from Edmonton to meet my boyfriend in New Orleans and because I was with my dog, I try to research ahead of time to find out where he can play in the cities we are visiting. I enrolled him ahead of our departure, getting all the pre qual done. One of the people I dealt with online was Jackie Shreves, who not only answered my questions but asked where I was staying and offered to recommend locations in the city. Although it says you cannot enroll online, I was able to, and Debie Crawford was helpful and kind and took all my information. As soon as I rolled into town I went straight to the park office to pay and collect my electronic pass. Debie was at the front desk, really kind, I felt like I was getting a big hug hello. It was hot and humid the day we went to the park, (about mid April), and I was grateful for the space. My dog was a bit freaked out by the overpowering noise from the nearby overhead freeway. That would be my only concern and why I didn't give it 5 stars. I felt safe knowing the rules which had applied to my dog and all others and it was one of the few dog parks I visited in my cross country trip where I felt safe and that I would not be freaked out by un-neuteured pit bulls and their strutting owners. And yes, I travelled from north to south, east to west across this great country of yours and I can attest that pit bull owners are "of a type" , and the breed may be championed by some but when the owners are as menacing as the dogs look, than look out. That dog is NOT a pussycat and has "kill" in it's DNA. Lots of fountains, an obvious security guard, shade, sun, little hills, toys, it's lovely. And as a cautious rescue dog owner, and a frazzled road tripper who had just driven 2500 miles, I was grateful for the park and for the helpful stewards of the park and their kindness. My advice would be to the Tourist info centres and hotels that profess to be dog friendly is to have a list and a map and directions to the dog park. The state tourist centre I stopped at didn't have a clue what was available for people travelling with pets. Well, I already knew because I did my research ahead of time, but these women were clueless. They'll offer you a free cup of Community coffee but nothing for people travelling with pets. No info on pet friendly accom, restaurants, or dog parks. Crazy considering how many people travel with their pets. I stayed at the Hotel Indigo and put my dog in nearby 'camp' at Camp Bow Wow during my stay, but those are reviews for another day. This is hard. The park itself is beautiful, huge, and has cute doggie pools. It is maintained every Tuesday from early - 1pm so its closed during that time. The park itself was very accommodating to allow us to use this park as visitors and with a puppy who is almost of age (5 1/2 months) when the age requirement is 6 months. She has all her shots and we have been socializing her and taking her to dog parks since she was 4 months old. She basically the most playful, non-aggressive pooch there is. We have had owners tell us that they have never seen their dog play so well with another dog until her and how big of a sweet heart she is. I gave the park two stars because the rules are not enforced. Being puppy owners we are very aware of creating positive socializing experiences for our pooch so she can be a well adjusted adult dog. We have been going to the park for almost 3 weeks now, almost everyday. Yes, the park has many rules, all which make even more sense to me now after our experiences. However, none of these rules seem to be enforced. We have seen the majority of the rules broken on a daily basis. - some owners are on their phones, yapping away paying no attention to their dog, a no no - others are just sitting in the shade while their dog roams 50 yards away, another no no -some can't even see their dog, dogs are supposed to be under supervision the entire time. The main rule and probably one of the most crucial: ***not pulling off dog when dog is engaging in aggressive behavior towards other dogs **** Upon paying for a membership to this park we received a booklet. This booklet had a lot of informative stuff about dog personalities and making sure that the member's dog is appropriate for the park regarding aggressive behavior. It has a lot of stuff about what aggressive behavior looks like and when to separate dogs and stop "play". Things like dogs biting the back of other dogs necks, pinning, barking, showing teeth, not allowing a dog to run. It also states that if your dog engages in these behaviors that the park is not for you. After reading this we started to see that almost half the dogs at this park engage in this behavior with our puppy. The worst part of it is the lackadaisical owners who don't seem to care that their dog is playing uncomfortably rough with our dog. Yes there is a small dog enclosure and a big dog enclosure. Unfortunately we also found aggressive dogs on the small dog side too. :( Our pup thinks she is a big dog and gets a long really well with all dogs but really enjoys playing with large non aggressive dogs. We have had many positive experiences here at this park, but they are slowly being out numbered by the poor ones. Of course there is no such thing as a bad dog, just a bad owner. We have had aggressive dog's owners not say anything after we removed our dog from an aggressive situation by picking her up. The dog then continued to jump and nip at her while she was in my arms. This dog was also jumping on me covering me in dirt (bummer) although I do get dirty their but its mainly from picking up my dog from an aggressive dog. The owner said nothing, didn't even respond when we asked him to get his dog off of me and to stop his dog from nipping and jumping on me and the pooch. He walked slowly over to the situation and would reach for his jumping dog like he was stuck in slow motion, while I'm shouting at his dog "NO!" Half of the aggressive dog owners give you attitude if you mention that their dog is being aggressive or ask them to do something about it. We have heard so many excuses like "thats just how he plays" or "he is normally really nice", we have also heard things like "maybe she should go to the small dog side" which sucks to hear when she was playing fine with other big dogs until YOUR DOG CAME. Some woman the other day said that "oh she is just playing submissive play" while she bites the back of our dogs neck not letting her get up. Our dog is smart and knows to go under tables or chairs or in the doggie pools to get away from these dogs. We have had another experience where a dog jumped in the pool with her and pinned her under water! The owner made a comment, not really showing any concern! Why do we keep going back you ask? Well, the park itself is unbeatable, plus our dog loves it and can't get enough play. Its sad to see us working hard to have a well adjusted dog and have so many shitty owners who can't seem to control their dog or think they even have to. Your dog is teaching ours poor behaviors! Our dog is almost 25 pounds which is the limit for her to be in the small dog enclosure, but we run into biting dogs, excessive humpers another no no. One woman came up to us and asked how old our dog was, being not yet of age and we answered honestly and said that she has been approved. The woman defiantly said approved by who?
