Great place to stay overnight, great drinks but quite expensive for spirits. Good offers on food.

    - We found this hotel and event venue while on our way back from Scotland. We decided to stay due…read moreto the indoor pool, spa, and fitness facility. £140 for the night with a family room with each of my 3x boys having their own bed in one room and my spouse and I having a semi private sleeping area in an adjoining area all in the same room. - We were in the 4th level and the building is extremely old; I felt bad as I could hear my children playing when I was down the hall by the lift when they were still in the room. The Bad: - There were spiders everywhere. I killed 2 in our room and there was another staring me down while we sat for breakfast. - The food service was terrible. We ordered room service so the kids could continue to play and enjoy being out of the car and the food was just horrible. The pizza was cold and crust was hard. The children's Mac n Cheese was bland and void of all flavour. The burger had one long piece of bacon but overall wasn't bad. The £5.95 "dirty fries" that comes with bacon, cheese, and burger sauce had about .25 oz of burger sauce and a small sprinkling of cheese. I was in too much shock to take pictures or even think after sitting in the car all day so sadly I don't have proof of the sad state in which we received our food. Oh, there were NO condiments and they forgot the Sticky Toffee Pudding. Which I wish they would have forgotten because microwaved sticky toffee pudding isn't great. - Breakfast was included and was really fast; mainly because it's buffet food that is served to you because of COVID. Our attendants (Lynn specifically I remember) were great and the lone bright spot during breakfast. The eggs were obviously fake liquid "egg" and it had that squishy texture when items sit in a heater. The Good: - It's rare to find places in Europe that accommodate a family of 5. - The building is very historic and interesting. - The pool was open and operating under COVID restrictions with children's hours so the kids could swim immediately following breakfast.

For the overall price we were charged £280 for 2 nights n some room service. Very expensive for…read morewhat it was. The Receptionist needs to go on a training course to understand how to welcome customers. She snapped 'checkin at 3pm' no greeting at all. The room was tired n could do with a refurb..we did ask for a refurb room so I hope that wasn't it. Like sleeping in an older persons living room. Breakfast was buffet style n there wasn't too much choice. Very tired looking bacon, sausages and egg. I read that they use locally sourced produce, which surprised me. Wifi was soooooo slow. When we tried to upgrade to premium we were unable to do it on line, as a voucher code was needed. Called reception twice to get a code but there was no answer. Room service had a wait of 1 and a half hours. Fish n chips and a fish finger sandwich. Both meals were bland n were served with empty condiments. Rang to request replacements. You guessed it, there was no answer. This place seems to only be interested in weddings...no thought given to those staying over. Very disappointing. I won't be returning.

This is a nice * country house hotel originally built a few hundred years ago. There is an annex…read morewith another 15 rooms which has been added about 20-ish years ago. The original rooms can be large with four-posters available, while the annex is more of a standard hotel room. I've found these rooms to have quite short baths so don't expect to stretch out if you're over 5'2" The hotel has free WiFi but other than the main area it is a bit flaky on reception and drops out quite a bit, cellular signals bounce off the stone too but outside it is a reasonable strength, all rooms have free-view. This is a pleasent hotel to stay in but it is the restaurant that makes it worth the drive when i'm working in the area. Hansards has 2 rosettes and has a fixed price 3 course dinner for about £19 with some suppliments for extras. This is well worth the money and I recommend you take the DBB rate when you book your stay, it works out cheaper. There is no pool or gym here but it would seem out of place if there were. I have given * rating as there is nother really outstanding about this hotel but it is well run with pleasent staff and a good restaurant, what more do you need when your working away from home but they do need to get the reliability of the WiFi sorted out. All of my collegues stay here too so that's a fair recomendation. X = You've gotta be kidding me XX = trying but not reaching the standard expected or advertised XXX = achieving the standards expected/advertised however high that might be XXXX = they're doing something special here, above expected standards of service XXXXX = WOW! you gotta go here!
