Greyhound is absolutely beyond awful. I started riding it between NYC and Atlantic City in 1990. It was pretty good then, especially the NY to AC leg. The AC to NY leg was never very reliable. But service decayed materially over time. They were constantly late to the point that it was almost NEVER on time. I mean EVER. In NY, there's a big ticket office, so you used to be able to go in and ask WTF was going on. Sometimes, they actually knew. In recent years, the line seems to have just about collapsed. You can't call any number to find out the status of your grossly delayed bus and there are very few places where there are humans at your departure location. Call the 800 number? Can't (actually won't) help you. Don't know anything. It's as if they think you are stupid. It's pretty obvious that they know where every one of their buses are just due to GPS technology. If a valuable bus went missing I promise you they'd know exactly where to find it. It's also common sense to know with absolute certainty that every depot from which buses are dispatched have telephones and actual "dispatchers". Forget about that track my bus tech they have on their site. it will NEVER help you find out why your bus is late or when it will arrive from the point of origin. EVER. Finding out where a one hour late bus is should not be a problem AT ALL. There should be a way to make an 800 call to someone who could call a depot and speak to a dispatcher. BUT NO..... And let's not forget about the condition of the buses. Seats frequently broken. Buses typically filthy. Drivers commonly angry and harsh. I've come to conclude that Greyhound views their typical passenger as lower class powerless people who can't do anything to harm them. And with all the degraded service - fewer buses scheduled included - they nearly doubled the price!!!!! I've found using the government run NJ Transit buses far more satisfying. They are clean and not broken. The WiFi actually works, unlike GH which is hit or miss - mostly miss. They are mostly on time and get you there more reliably even with a stop or two. if they are late, you can find out why and when to expect arrival. they are cheaper. They have a senior discount. I suspect this is what happens when elected officials who are answerable to the people run the line. Unless aggravation and being treated as a subhuman is your bag, stay the heck away from GH. I give greyhound no stars as I have experienced massive delays on Thursday (In Sept) and Friday (in July) 4:30 PM bus to Atlantic City. In both occasions no one from greyhound let anyone know why bus was delayed or other alternatives that they could take to get to New Jersey, they said nothing at all and left everyone in the dark. Also the next bus leaving at 5:30 PM was also delayed and there was still no Greyhound Rep. explaining the reason for all the delays and if customers for the 4:30 PM bus would be allowed to go before the 5:30 PM customers. Greyhound lacks customer service and they seem to fall back on their policy that no refund can be issued unless the bus is 2 hours or more late. Due to this reason they do not care to explain delays as they will not have to issue a refund if you get on the bus by 6:25 PM. Meanwhile all of the customers become stressed, unconvinced, and are two hours late to where they were supposed to be. If the if the reason for the delay is a changing of shifts or traffic them maybe the best way to resolve this is to no longer have a 4:30 PM but instead a 5:30 PM. Once we found the gate, we had the luxury of asking a bus station employee where, within the bewildering horde of people, could we find the line. "I don't know" he replied with firm certainty and a confidence we all should strive to emulate. When a bus to NYC finally arrived in the crippling heat, it became a complete free-for-all, where the everyday social etiquette rule of "standing in line according to your arrival time" was scrapped for "pushing yourself toward the bus door as quickly as possible to get a good seat." The Amtrak employees were fine with this. The experience was further elevated inside the bus by the quintessential ambience of a Greyhound: sticky floors, broken seats that god-only-knows-when were last vacuumed, two obese women taking up four seats, and that peculiar scent that can only be found on a narrow, poorly ventilated vehicle with 50 people stuffed inside together for hours. I write this review sitting directly next to the bathroom, the only seat available to me, where I am blessed with the smells of gifts that my fellow passengers leave inside the 3x3 container on the other side of the door. The icing on the cake for this consistently depressing chain of events is the feeling of sweat dripping down the back of my neck onto my new shirt, due to the subpar ventilation and air conditioning; and the furnace-like engine that appears to be directly underneath me, providing a steady and intensifying heat to my legs and lower torso. All I can do now is sit back and wait for a passenger to eat rancid fast food or play their favorite YouTube video at the highest decibel their phone will allow. read more

I am not gonna lie trying to get back to New York is usually terrible. I mostly go on holiday weekends to Atlantic City so that makes it even worse, but my advice is play and stay up all night then try to catch a bus back in the morning. The last time I was here was Presidents Day and actually the Monday morning I was looking hard for an available bus back to NY. Early ones like the 6:20 and 8:20 were completely filled up so I walked to bus terminal and manage to get the one at 10:00 am. I have spent weekends at my home in AC since 1990. I've seen a long downward spiral that slammed down with a crescendo in the last couple of years. There was a time when Greyhound was reliable and economical. Of course it was a standard bus experience - nothing luxurious or special. Back in the day, though, the buses were on time for the most part give or take. There was competition, so there was better service all around. Then the day tripper casino business more or less dried up when the racinos started popping up and Philly got heavy into the business too. That's when things started to change for the worse. I spent most of 2020 at home because of the pandemic. On a couple of occasions I rode back and forth and found a severe drop in reliability and customer treatment. No one at any of the casinos where it's most convenient, cleaner and safer to pick up the bus to assist with no show buses. The drivers would normally blame latenesses - which on occasion were severe - on the pandemic. But in 2021, I resumed my commuting and was astonished at how bad things had gotten. The buses were always late. It was a rare exception when they weren't. And here's the kicker. NO ONE could explain why. NO ONE could explain when the bus would arrive. There would be no one at the casino. If you went to the bus terminal, there were people there, but they would say they couldn't find out. If you call Greyhound directly, they'd claim the same thing. Now I'm not a stupid person.... Greyhound has a depot with someone in charge of dispatching buses, someone matching drivers with buses. In this day and age of digital tech, the buses all have GPS trackers. The depot has a phone. The drivers have phones. When a bus is late, especially remarkably late, you'd think that Greyhound would be able to tell you when you ask what the story is. So either of two things are afoot here. 1. Either they don't have a system in place (unlikely) 2. They don't give a damn about passengers. I vote for number 2. Because even if it's numbe, the the reason for not having the system is due to number 2. They've raised prices considerably. They've reduced the frequency. And they are always late without an explanation or an apology. I've concluded that it's most likely that they figure that they are dealing with a class of people who they could crap on, including lots of people who are used to being crapped on. The NJ Transit bus - 319 - is not non-stop. But it's reliable. The people are accountable since they report to elected officials who want to remain so. They even give you a big discount if you are a senior. When you add in the reliability factor, my experience is I get to where I need to on time, something that can rarely if ever be said about the greyhound ride between NYC and AC. only a fool would ride Greyhound. read more

This is CHAOS. This was my first and absolute last time taking the greyhound bus lines. I am currently on a separate bus because our bus NEVER LEFT THE STATION. We arrived at the designated terminal 30 min before our bus was supposed to depart, checked in, waited in line then was told to go to A DIFFERENT BUS STATION. So we went to said station, waited for another hour, it's now 5pm. Our bus was supposed to leave at 4. Our bus never leaves, the cops are called. NO ONE IS INFORMED OR TOLD WHAT IS GOING ON. I booked a trip to Atlantic city and decided to use greyhound as my transportation. I bought my ticket for 1230 departure from port authority. When I arrived to the gate, the lines were extremely long. As 1230 passed , an announcer on the speaker said the next bus was at 130, since the 1230 was initially sold out. No one expressed this to us beforehand, especially because our ticket has a time on it. The way back to New York 3 days later was by far the worst experience I've ever had traveling. We went to the Tropicana because there was a bus leaving at 315. Upon arriving at 230, the lines were already extremely long. The crowd of people were obnoxious, loud, and ignorant. When the bus arrived, everyone from the back of the line ran towards the front. Where was security ? Why didn't the bus driver confront this? Everyone started to argue with each other, as one security guard came. He did absolutely NOTHING to alleviate the problem. One man was arguing with two other men which ended up with one of the guys spitting in the mans face. As 4 more security men came , they ultimately just stared at the problem. The crowd of people that ran to the front were all scrambled on the side of the line. This was a obvious Indicator they had skipped. No one paid attention to that,as well as anything we had to say. We all tried to express the nature of the problem. Nobody wanted to listen, as they just stood on the sidelines watching the arguments flare up. There were 4 elderly woman in front of me that were standing there prior to our arrival. They didn't get on the bus because of all the people that skipped the line. My heart was broken. Greyhound needs to assist priority seating to the elderly, as well as disabilities. These people were here first, and they were overlooked because of the inconsiderate people who wanted to skip the line. What's the point of choosing a time, purchasing a flex fair, if you can't properly get on the bus. Why not use a system where everyone gets a ticket as they arrive to the gate. If there is 55 seats, give out the amount of numbers and if you don't get a ticket you can't board or you shouldn't wait on line. Simple. I truly dislike how greyhound handles these procedures. I didn't get on a bus till 6pm, meanwhile I had to travel to 3 different hotels to finally get a bus with a seat . I barely made it on that bus because they had previously picked up people. Only 25 seats were available and we had JUST made it. The communication with greyhound, its procedures, and the staff at these locations were atrocious. Waiting over half an hour for our scheduled bus at this terminal only to be told that the bus is full from Bally's, which leaves us (with SCHEDULED time) to have to be passed over for till the next bus. We left the terminal to go to Bally's bus terminal and stool on line for an hour for the next available bus. Essentially, this whole thing is first come first served even if you bought a ticket in advance with the time listed. Also, you're left to figure all this out by yourself with no direction or assistance, much less NOTICE of what you can do except wait and hope that the next bus has a seat for you if you wait forever. Once I got to my destination I was no good. I couldn't walk because my legs were crammed up for so long. I had to take my brace off and put my heating pad on. LITERALLY THE WORST. My fiancé and I decided to take a quick weekend trip to Atlantic City from NYC and purchased a round-trip bus tickets on Greyhound. We left Thursday night from Port Authority and got there 20 minutes before bus departure time as the ticket stated to do, just to wait in a dinky line for that entire time. The ride was fine; the driver was aggressive and stopped short a few times but we made it there safely. WiFi was spotty but I expected that once we made it on the bus. (Side note- this was my first Greyhound experience and for some reason I was expecting a high-quality experience I guess due to bogus advertisements.) Here's where it gets really bad- We had 5pm departure tickets back today (Saturday) and got back to the bus terminal at the hotel by 4:30pm where the people working told us that all Greyhound buses back to New York were cancelled due to the pending storms, something was decided yesterday. I immediately accused my fiancé of missing an email, or notification of some kind but actually what he had in his inbox was an email from Greyhound at 11am today telling us to get ready for our trip at 5pm. Haha! Fiancé got on the phone with Greyhound to confirm that there were no buses given the lack of communication. He spoke to three separate people; all were unapologetic and admitted all the buses on the AC to NY route had been cancelled today and tomorrow and they didn't notify their customers. They gave him a hard time about a refund (said to call back in a few days and something about starting a file, Greyhound protocol, etc.) and he eventually got so frustrated he decided to just dispute the charge with his credit card company where customer service is like, valued. Luckily, we got to the AC bus terminal (took a chance thinking some other buses or trains would be running, before getting a rental car) minutes before a NJ Transit bus was leaving for NYC. it mystifies me that in the era of GPS and smart phones, You ask Greyhound personnel where the bus is when it is late and they say they don't know. Is it 1970?? When I lived in Florida the bus would often arrive hours late to my podunk town and the Greyhound staff in the bus depot would have no clue where the bus was, at least here in Atlantic City the deviations from schedule are less extreme and there are numerous buses scheduled to arrive and depart throughout the day and night so if one has a problem there will be a replacement at some point.. the positive is that a lot of the buses have free wi-fi and charging stations at each seat now and that a round trip from Atlantic City to the Times Square area of Manhattan in New York is only $38, much cheaper than driving would cost and much less stressful.. Usually takes a little over 2 hours, depending on traffic in the Lincoln Tunnel. read more

First time traveling on Greyhound, Bought a round trip ticket from NY to Atlantic city and Atlantic city to NY. From NY to Atlantic city no problem, when we tried to come back we waited from 7:30pm to 12am, only 2 buses showed up and they were full. We asked the reason, they said that Ballys casino was the last stop, so almost no buses made it there we many empty seats. So we asked where we could go to take the next bus, they told us Resort casino, when we got there, they told us that there were no more buses to NY until 3:30am. This makes me think that this idiots over sale their bus tickets and dont care about people. There were more than 70 people waiting for the bus, some of them since 5:30pm. I call the number and the representative said there was nothing they can do because it was an "economy" ticket. Having not caught a greyhound bus in nearly 20 years after previous poor experiences my wife booked us on one from Altantic City back to NYC. What an experience. I think the buses haven't been replaced in 30 years. Arm rests broken off, rude driver the worst ride on expressways. The bus felt like it's suspension was completely shot. There were rows of seats that had been pushed together and the driver was unable to or unwilling to return them to their proper positions.so some passengers had barely any leg room. Never ever again. My wife has learnt her lesson too. On this trip to the US we've caught buses up and down the east coast with the Bolt Bus and Megabus companies and the buses were great. This will be my last time to take a greyhound bus. I'm giving 1 star for being on time. Bus itself is dirty and wifi was not working as they advertised. But what made it worst was our big attitude driver, Lisa. Be aware because she treats customer like shit and she is racist. My mom who is Japanese was sitting behind the driver seat and as soon as the driver saw her using cell phone with no sound, she immediately came to tell her to make sure her cell phone is on vibrate. Ok I understand the sound policy that this driver had to tell her in advance. Then the driver came to speak to me that my mom should not talk at all since she is sitting behind her and move to the back if she wants to talk. What kind of policy is that? We weren't even talking. She also made other riders uncomfortable and a Spanish lady sitting next side of me not to use cell phone when I was looking up greyhound website to complain. The bus was on time as scheduled, (I was picked up from the Tropicana) the bus was clean and comfortable, and the bus driver was excellent. We arrived on time in NYC.
