As I don't have my license or car to drive this very moment, I have used SPARTA pretty frequently…read moreas my secondary source of transportation. Spartanburg is a fairly poor city to begin with, so the transportation system is going to kind of suck (it won't serve areas like Boiling Springs or Cedar Springs, for instance). I'm pretty grateful of not going on buses in larger cities like NYC or in New Jersey, though, as they tend to be dirty, smelly, expensive and trashy. I greatly recommend the day passes. Definitely beneficial for college students or disabled people. A monthly pass will run you $18.75, so it is definitely not the worst bus system in the world. Most of the drivers who run the buses are friendly. Sylvia, who drives Spartanburg Tech, is very friendly and whenever she's late, she always asks passengers what next bus they need to get on. WestGate's bus, however, can be really packed at times, to a point where I can barely find a seat. :P And it runs very late at times... Until I actually have me a car (hopefully within the next two years), I'll be using SPARTA or Dial-a-Ride when everyone else is working.

They have a three story parking deck (free!) and a ground level overflow lot. Both are accessible from South Boulevard. The platform is elevated, so you might want to consider taking the elevator or feel free to climb the stairs if you feel fit. There is a ticket vending machine on the platform, but you may want to use one of the two that are in the garage if there is a line. Not a whole lot of cover on the platform, so if it's wet or windy or cold, I'd suggest waiting in the garage until the train gets ready to leave.

There is plenty of free parking at the station, both in lots and in a garage. It's about a 30 minute ride to uptown. It's way easier and cheaper than trying to drive and park in the city. This is the way to go!

From my initial call to Ms. Ruth, she was professional and answered the phone to schedule the appointment. Although she was in a meeting, Ms Ruth returned my call as promised. I highly recommend this transportation service to anyone looking for an affordable service. They partner with the city for those approved to use the access I-ride program.
