It is located on a slope by the water facing east where you can observe a spectacular sunset over the ocean. The camp sites are not labeled but easy to figure out as the occur among natural flats along the cliffs by the water. There are some sites for camping mobiles and caravans, but most are suitable for tents. You need a pretty descent car to drive all the way in, since it is pretty steep at some parts. The place is run private, so don't expect a lot of attention, but the people there are very nice, friendly and easy to do business with, but busy. It's a bit out in the bush, but they have wifi and that kind of stuff if you really need it. Showers and toilets are a bit few, but not disastrous. Just get up early or wait for a while. Price was also reasonable compared to other local ones, since we asked at each one of them. But in short, to decide between an organized, expensive, loud place full with rude people as compared to maybe a bit more add hock but pristine, scenic, cheap and calm, the choice was easy.

The cruise was very fun and a highlight of our trip. In the beginning, everyone will crowd out on the deck and then the boat will hit high speeds to get to the fjord and many people will go inside. Then they will all come out when you're about to enter the fjord. For a short time, they will let you go outside in the front and that was very cool. There will be yummy cookies at the snack bar and they will sell out. Get one early if you want one. You can also bring your own snacks on board.

The rooms are well-equipped though mine was cramped (depends on the one you get). My room's window looked directly into the office building next door. You won't get much privacy with just the sheer curtains alone. You'll likely need to keep your curtains permanently closed if you like your privacy. Consider that when you choose your room. Others in my group had better views. The bar downstairs is fantastic. The two bartenders on the night I went down were extremely fun to chat with and the cocktails were made to perfection. Cheers!

Them's were the breaks as we were on the express version of the Norway in a Nutshell tour package. Bergen was a charming city and more manageable than Oslo to explore, but because transport through the fjords was time-consuming, Jamie W. and I just had a half-day in Bergen. That wasn't a nutshell experience, it was a nutcracker if you know what I mean. Good thing this hotel was such a visual delight as it was the city's old stock exchange building a couple of centuries back. It was transformed into a neo-Renaissance style with nice contemporary changes. Our Standard Double room was simple and comfortable. The going rate was about $160 per night. More importantly, it was centrally located right across the street from the fish market and down the street from Bryggen. Sadly, because we had an early morning train, we had to miss out on the breakfast buffet as the hotel has a Michelin starred restaurant (Bare). We took the entire west coast of Norway trip over seven days on the Hurtigruten MS Nordlys. It was…read morewonderful. We had booked a small cabin that was just too small for two people to be moving in at the same time. I went to the front desk to ask about an upgrade and that worked. Yes, I had to pay for the upgrade but we ended up opting for a mini-suite. This had a king size bed and a TV that was two scenes, one facing the bed and the other facing the couch. Also a nice bar area, but standard ship sized bathroom. Very comfy and worth the price paid. Meals were centralized, buffet and were excellent as to variety & quality. Our group had arranged for a beverage for each person at every lunch and dinner, so wine, beer or soft drink were included. This is a working ferry that stops many times day and night to take on or drop off pass angers, mail and/or equipment. After the first night, we never heard the docking and departure noises. The coast of Norway is vast with many settlements along it. Some are too small for anything large to dock and others just large enough. The in and out of port work is amazing to watch. Very efficient. The ship has outdoor seating areas and indoor cafes, ice cream shop, bars and gift shops. There is an optional restaurant where you seat in a separate area, order from their menu an are served away from the mass feeding in the main dining room. Crew is exceptionally nice, courteous and accommodating. There was at least one port of call where we could leave the ship for a few hours to see sights and history. We would do it again, maybe traveling from north to south on another Norway trip. Highly recommended.

First of all travel in this part of the world is very expensive and I was hoping for better service. Parts of the crew like the expedition team, and most of the serving staff in the dining room were fantastic. But the reception team and housekeeping were not always pleasant. Heading north the reception team was excellent, but on the way back towards Bergen, not so much. They have an intern Sammy, who yelled at me for a solid five minutes because I was late boarding even after I apologized. I don't like spotlighting people, but I contacted the company with a complaint and so far no response. In the words of a crew member's toast,"Hurigruten is not a cruise, but a connection for the Norwegian people" I must agree. It is better to think of this boat line as a ferry and not so much a cruise expedition. They do not stop at ports for long so another reason why it's more like a ferry because you don't have much time to explore the different stops. Once I almost missed the ferry because it docked 15 minutes late which I didn't factor into the departure. time. Use it to get from point a to point B with a possible one or two night stay in the cabins, or if you want to be thrifty, just sleep in one of the lounges, but you have to expect there might be noise. Also, they need to do a better job cleaning the bathrooms in between trips because there was some mold at the base.

we booked 13 tickets with fjordtours.com - Sognefjord in a Nutshell. that was a mistake. the…read moretrain operator - Vy - had changed trains, thus seat reservations were changed. fjordtours.com never notified us of the change. we put our luggage and sat down on our original reserved seats in car 8. there were other passengers who said they have our seats. it was confusing as we thought our seats were double booked. one passenger told me that Vy had sent her an email notification about the train change and reassigned seats. i sent an email to fjordtours.com, and got a response that our new assigned seats would be in car 2. why couldn't they let us know in advance instead of 30 minutes after our departure, which had created completely unnecessary chaos onboard? i asked fjordtours.com why we weren't notified? their response? "I hope you have found your seats by now. This is an issue caused by the train operators own reservation system, and it is impossible for us to follow up all customers way ahead. The mistake/changes may happen in between when you made the booking, and the day of travel, so informing everyone is both very time demanding and may even be wrong information we give, since we do not know when this mistake occurs. I hope you understand, and despite this enjoy your tour." that response was a cop out. if they cannot keep their customers updated just like the train operator could, then they shouldn't be in the business to begin with. it was challenging for a group of elderly passengers (between 69 and 80 years old to move from car 8 to car 2 with luggage). both train conductors who asked us to move had apologized for the confusion and inconvenience, and both of them said that fjordtours.com was already notified via email about the train change and reassigned seats. and they said that we should be notified as well. the entire confusing and upsetting experience could have been 100% avoided if fjordtours.com made an effort in passing updates/changes from the train operator to the passengers. we sent complaints to fjordtours.com, and they never responded to resolve the negative experience.
