On January 20, 2023, the arbitrator ruled in my favor and issued an award of $36,868.31 against IVN Sound & Communication, LLC after finding that I had been overcharged and that work failed inspection by the City of Philadelphia. Case Number: 01-22-0003-3215 The arbitration findings included: * I paid $68,153.03 * Only $40,148.59 of work was deemed valid * Failed inspections by the City * Overpayment confirmed by the arbitrator The company was ordered to pay within 30 days. Money was exchanged for services and this is a review of my experience with those services. I support FDS Construction as a family owned business. I believe they do good work. I understand the challenges small business owners face with managing projects and we do the best we can. However, as the consumer, when the dust cleared and the work was done, in my opinion, there were gaping holes in quality and service. Unfortunately it felt like the next project took precedence over wrapping up my renovation project. There were unfinished projects that were promised to be rectified, but never were. The worst offense was that a a pre existing gaping space between the basement wall and the great outdoors was not filled in. I ended up going to Ace Hardware to buy foam filler and do it myself. Overall, I was left unsatisfied and really disappointed. The project started out great and lost steam. I thought it was a pretty straightforward basement renovation, so I'm not sure what the issues were. In hindsight, I should've held the final payment until all the "little fixes" were completed. In my industry, it's all in the details, and I expect the same from anyone I work with, especially in the construction. I'm not sure what I could've done differently other than parked myself downstairs all day to keep my eye on the work, which is exactly the opposite what I wanted in hiring a contractor in the first place. In terms of the staff and crew, they were really nice. Timely and super pleasant. Again this is a business and services review, not vengeance or any sort of malice (you know how folks be on Yelp). Constructive but Honest…read more I'm always willing to give a business the benefit of the doubt, but unfortunately, my experience was disappointing. I needed a quote to have my sensor lights repaired or replaced, and Tom came out to provide an estimate. However, he said he had forgotten his ladder and would return later that same day. When I called to confirm the time, I was then told he had also left his tools at someone else's house. He said he would either return around 3 PM or come the following morning. I reached out by phone, text, and even sent a voice note to confirm the morning appointment. I also offered another day when I would be working from home to make scheduling easier. Unfortunately, I never received a response. I ultimately sent a polite message letting him know that, since I had not heard back, I would find someone else to complete the job. I understand that things happen and that schedules can change. My constructive feedback would simply be to communicate with the customer and follow through on the agreed-upon time, even if the appointment needs to be rescheduled. A quick response would have made a big difference and would have been much more professional. I hope this feedback is helpful, because the situation could have easily been handled with better communication.
