I walked in said hello and was ignored. The staff seem to be not interested in my business. I didn't feel welcome in here I was followed around the store from the time I walked into the store. I looked up to ask which hats were 50% the lady was standing behind me. I asked her about were there any snapback hats, she responded NO very stern and far from welcoming. This is one of many gift shops located on this street. I would not buy items from here right away, if you have time. I would compare what they have and their prices to the other 3 or 4 shops nearby. I stopped here first and after going into another of the shops, I immediately had buyers remorse. They carry a wide range of items including hats, antlers, stuffed animals, seasonings, rocks, tshirts, shit glasses, popcorn, candy, flasks, art, magnets, toys, books, DVDs, and keychains. It is a large shop and is very neat and organized. They tout theirselves on having unique Alaskan made gifts. I know that souvenirs are usually high, but I felt that these were a bit high than at the other stores I went to on the street. The staff there is very friendly courteous and helpful. They are open everyday. If you plan on driving here, there is metered street parking available within a reasonable walking distance and should not be too hard to find. I purchased a few items, some I am glad that I got and others that I wishI would have waited to get. All in all, this is a decent shop to get all your souvenir needs met. It says "unique Alaska gift shop" and that's what intrigued me. Wondering whether all shops would claim that. What they claimed as "unique", which is not quite unique to this store but definitely unique to Alaska are: Russian layered dolls (although arguably you can get it also from many other places near Russia such as Northern China. They got some indigenous people's decoration. Some pretty delicately hand made dolls with local costumes. read more

I've walked by Grizzly's Gifts dozens of times, but I've never gone in. I ain't no tourist! You can't fool me with that enormous plus bear! As far as downtown tchotchke shops go, this is one of the better ones. There's not a lot of "MADE" in Alaska stuff, but there is a lot of Alaska stuff. The prices are decent. They've got a decent selection of quality books, lots of clothing (particularly for kids and babies), and an assortment of random trinkets as well: candy, magnets, stuffed animals, necklaces, etc. If you're a local: come here to buy something for that friend that stubbornly resists visiting. To start off I want to say that the store has a pretty vast selection of merchandise and it's all super reasonable. I was ready to buy several hundreds of dollars worth of items when I asked the worker at the front, an elderly lady if she could open the knife case for me. She disregarded me and eventually probably 6 minutes later came and opened it. She was very short and rude with me and didn't even let me look at the ones I wanted to before she locked it up again. The disrespect she addressed me with is unacceptable and I ended up not buying anything from here. I actually like this tourist shop, but at the same time- in terms of 'Alaskan tourist shops' it falls short. It's a fantastic shop and is very clean and well-organized. There are a lot of sectors in this store and you'll find a true array of items here. With that being said, most of the items are the kinds of things I'd expect to find in a tourist shop in the western United States. I couldn't find anything super 'Alaskan' here. It's more artsy than local, and although that's fine (and I actually really do like their selection), they just aren't very northern. One of the main things that really caught me off guard was the amount of odd lower-48 native items that they had. Most other tourist shops focus on Alaskan native crafts, but this one had items traditional to tribes in the continental US with beaded items and dream catchers. Granted, many Athabascan tribes have adopted dream catchers from lower 48 tribes, but they're not a part of the true historical culture here, so it just seemed a bit odd. I'm not sure if they were just trying to add unique items to their shop, or they were trying to find a unique way to showcase native culture- but it just didn't seem fitting for an Alaskan shop. They have some faux fur items, but like other tourist shops on 4th avenue, the faux fur is extremely overpriced. There are faux fur hats that cost nearly $70! That is pretty ridiculous when you can buy an actual fur hat for about $120. Faux fur is extremely cheap and I wouldn't pay more than $30 for a faux fur hat. It's obvious that tourist shops like this one are gouging naïve customers with those ridiculous prices. Aside from those two complaints, though, this place is actually a lot of fun and very family-friendly. The employees were very kind and did a good job of greeting each person who entered the store. They were happy to help answer any of the customer's questions and were efficient in making sure that a line didn't build at the check-out. They're well-staffed and well-maintained. My favorite part of this tourist shop, and the only real reason I'd recommend it to people, is the stuffed toy selection. No other tourist shop on 4th Avenue has quite the array of toys. If you are traveling with children or want to buy your child a special gift, this shop is the place to do so. Not only does the toy section feature practically any stuffed animal species that you could find in Alaska, they also have a great array of kids clothes as well. This place is fun and great for kids. But I wouldn't go here if I was looking for a true Alaska tourist shop experience. They have a ton of great items and as a local Anchorage-it, I could see myself shopping here. But I wouldn't bring my family here if I wanted to give them a taste of the real Alaska. read more

All of the large souvenir stores in downtown Anchorage are fairly similar. They all carry Ulus, stuffed animal huskies and T-Shirts. What sets Grizzly's apart is the friendly service. Early in my trip, I stopped in to squash a penny for my collection. I guy immediately came over and said good morning. I didn't buy anything that day. When I came in the next week he recognized me. He then preceded to help me with Rondy pins. I was looking for one that was no longer available at the Rondy shop at the Mint. Since the stock is so similar in the stores downtown, I recommend stopping at Grizzly's first where the service is better than the competitors. read more

Grizzly's is one of my two favorite stops for Alaska crap in Anchorage. The selection is large, prices are competitive, and staff is helpful. Nice selection and friendly staff. I was committed to buying products made in Alaska, as opposed to junk made elsewhere, so I was excited by the Cooper River Fleece. The prices seemed high, but the product was well made and I purchased a vest ($169) and hat ($48). Even saving on tax and shipping, those are premium prices. I checked the Cooper River Fleece website when I got back to SF. Same vest: $125. Same hat: $32. That is a very high mark up over what the manufacturer is selling them for. I will not shop at this store again and I suggest you check prices before making special purchases. read more

I found a number and reached someone named Gail. After giving her the information regarding the numerous phone conversations and the inability to extract the necessary information . . . she actually walked over to the store from their corporate location to ascertain what was transpiring with my items. She immediately called me back, informed me that the package had yet to be sent. Apologized profusely . . . over and over . . . almost embarrassed about what I was experiencing. So polite and apologetic. Long story short . . . she was happy that I called so that they know what transpired. My package is in route and I have a viable tracking number. Happy I reached out to the corporate office for help. I am changing my review from 1 star to 5 stars because of the immediate positive response from upper level management. Sometimes you need to hear about what is not working from customers to make necessary changes. Lots of choices . . . and seemingly great customer service. We purchased almost $600 of items and was informed (since we were on the first leg of our trip) that Grizzly's would ship to our home for us (for a fee of $43.00). I jumped at the chance since we would be on the road for another 2 weeks. When I inquired as to the timing . . . I was informed the package would be shipped out in the "next few days" . . . which would work perfectly with our schedule. They offered to include in the package items we purchased at Hard Rock Cafe . . .so we included those as well. Arrived home on the 23rd of August. Since we had not received any packages (or notices of same), I called them. I talked with Lauren who informed me that the individual who ships packages was "at lunch" and would be back in an hour. And that person would call me back at that time with information. On the 24th of August, after not receiving a return call as promised, I called again. Talked with someone else (whose name I don't recall). Advised them of the purpose for my call . . . and I was informed that the shipping person was not actually IN yesterday . . . and was not actually IN today . . . but that someone would call me back later in the day. 4 hours later . . . I called again . . . talked with Lauren again . . . and was informed that the shipping person needed to call me back. That never happened. On the 25th of August, I called again . . . spoke with Lauren again . . . who informed me that the shipping is out of her control . . . and that the shipping person would need to call me. To this day . . . they will NOT give me the "shipping person's" name. She promised that she would have someone call me. That never happened. August 26th . . . just called again. Spoke with Lauren who informed me she "thinks" packages went out 2 days ago . . . but isn't certain. I asked to speak to the mysterious "shipping person" to which she replied "that person isn't in today." I then asked if there really WAS a shipping person . . . and she said . . . hey I'm sorry for your trouble . . . I'll give you your shipping money back . . . but you need to talk with them. I informed her that the $43.00 of shipping fee wasn't a fair trade for $700 of merchandise that they were entrusted with. She said that the shipping person would have to call me. To which I replied . . . "sort of like you promised on my previous calls with your establishment"? The call ended with no knowledge of the whereabouts of my paid merchandise, no information with regards to shipping and no name with regards to the "shipping person". This establishment is very nice and accommodating when you are physically in their store spending money . . . but don't trust them once you have left. read more
