Huge gratitude to my BIL that highly recommended visiting this shop for buying gifts or souvenirs. I'm so glad we made it to downtown Anchorage. Find metered parking nearby and able to park for free beginning at 5 PM. My Tito and I spent a long time in the shop checking quality, stitching, colors, slogans just to ensure our loved ones will be enthusiastic about their gifts. Female employee offered to find and grab a different size for two T-shirt designs at the nearby sister or sibling store. If I felt that the merchandise didn't scream, "Please buy me!" Amazing souvenir shop. Used to shop at Grizzly's Gifts. However, horrible customer service sent us looking elsewhere. Glad we found this shop. They have anything you'll ever need. We especially enjoy their caramel chocolate bars, t-shirts, and funny memorabilia. Prices are also very reasonable. Customer service is also just as amazing. We couldn't find our favorite caramel chocolate bars at their other location. So, we bought our other fav, their chocolate almond bar. We decided to visit their larger store to see if they had the caramel bars. They did!! So, we showed them our receipt and asked if we could exchange the ones we bought for the caramel. Polar Bear Gifts is probably the largest gift store and souvenir shop in Anchorage, Alaska. They say so loudly and proudly. I do admit that they have a lot of stuff that says Alaska on it. Stuff tourists love. Not sure why I checked into this business on yelp. Maybe I was bored and need to file a review here on Yelp after making my purchase. Who knows? Since I was here in Anchorage, Alaska, I figured I would look around the largest gift store in Alaska and buy some souvenirs for the co-workers back home. They were not lying when they said they had the largest assortment of tourist related items. Everything that is related to the state of Alaska to moose, bear, and everything in between - they mostly have it here. They even sell smoked salmon here by the box and it's basically real fish you find in a supermarket that's sealed up for freshness. To y'all who buy smoked salmon here in Alaska, you would want to take it out of your luggage and declare it to TSA, since the smoked salmon contains liquid in the pouch. I got flagged for it and needed extra screening because of it. With that said, Polar Bear Gifts reminds me of a miniature Walmart that sells definitive Alaska trinkets and souvenirs for anyone and everyone who wants a memento for their trip to Alaska. I eventually looked around the store and bought a couple of magnets that have bears on them and a couple of boxes of smoked salmon. The prices here are relatively inexpensive, depending on what you buy and many of the t-shirts sport goofy designs. The overall experience here at the Polar Bear Gift mega souvenir store here in Anchorage Alaska was decidedly good, casual, friendly, and average all at the same time. I must have spent a good hour trying to decide on what to buy and ended up with a few things before heading out for more fun. They accept major credit cards, which is always a good thing for those of us who are here from out of town. I found myself here at this location, but there was another Polar Bear Gifts location nearby. I guess that downtown Anchorage is the hotbed for tourist souvenirs. The store that I have visited is located at 600 W 4th Avenue in the heart of downtown Anchorage. For the most part though, I wasn't sure that there is parking in the downtown area, since I walked it here from my hotel on 13th Avenue. I bet that there is Uber / lyft that operates around here, as well as the local public transportation too. I would say that this is your typical souvenir stores that can mimic Waikiki and Las Vegas. While Anchorage isn't as flashy as other cities, it makes up for it by selling its natural beauty and the fact that they have bears and moose's that wander anywhere they want! The service here was staffed by high school / college kids and it was good. Friendly bunch of people. I asked one of them to see if the canned smoked salmon was allowed through TSA. They claim that they don't really know. I don't blame them though. If nothing else, it is a good place to kill time and look through what people like to buy for Alaskan souvenirs. The store itself seemed like an endless maze of product until you reach the back of the store. The main stuff like magnets and keychains usually are in the front of the store. The t-shirts gravitate towards the back end of the store. They sell inexpensive jewelry too, if I am not mistaken. For my experience here at the Polar Bear Gift mega store in Anchorage AK, I was pleased with my purchase and hope to come again soon. While magnets and keychains are usually my jam, I'll look forward to buying souvenir t-shirts in the near future on another trip to Anchorage, Alaska. While there's not much options to shop for souvenirs in Alaska - in general, you'd figure that the main cities of Anchorage and Fairbanks would have something like Polar Bear Gifts. I'm glad I have found it here versus trying to look for it in Fairbanks too. While it can be tacky, it does have a great assortment of Alaskan souvenirs you can buy for yourself and loved ones back home. I'd recommend coming here on your next trip to Alaska. "FREE ulu with $50 purchase" I'm not sure which one they give you, but it's probably the chinese made one that they sell for 3 bucks. Two words: Tourist trap Polar Bear Gifts is packed full of your standard and Alaska specific souvenirs that you didn't even know that you needed to have them. The amount of did stuff packed in the store is amazing. The shelves are well organized, clean, and packed full.The aisle are a bit tight. If you happen to forget your gloves, hat, or can't seem to handle the Alaska weather, they do offer a selection of winter wear, including jackets. It is important to keep in mind that you are getting what you pay for as the merchandise is cheap, but so is some of the quality. Also, if you spend $60 or more, you get a free ulu, just be sure to place it in your checked luggage when flying out of ANC. read more

This is by far the most 'touristy' tourist shop in Anchorage. It's what you'd expect to find on the beaches of Palm Beach, Florida or Waikiki, Hawaii. This place is full of bargain items like 3 t-shirts for $15. They have heaps of t=shirts, bumper stickers, and fridge magnets. All of their items are cheap, and cheaply-made for that matter. It's the most affordable tourist shop I've ever found in Alaska and if a family was traveling on a budget and wanted to buy their kids some fun stuff while they were here- I'd say this is the place to go. Although this place is great in terms of cheap tourist crap, it's lacking one of the things I love about all other Alaskan tourist shops- it's not very Alaskan. There are no hand-crafted items, local foods, or any local flare at all. There's no rustic décor or unique theme. It's just a stagnant, clean, tourist shop with modern hip-hop music playing on the speakers. The employees wear business-logo t-shirts and it just seems like a casual 'beach' shop that doesn't fit my in-Alaska expectations. Personally, I wouldn't take my family here if they were traveling to Alaska. There's nothing unique about this place and no 'pizzazz' (for a lack of a better word). Granted the shirts say 'Alaska' and the magnets have moose on them, but aside from those little details, there really isn't much Alaskan about this place. Every other tourist shop on 4th Avenue has a theme, or at least strives to carry a neat collection of Alaskan items that aren't so cheap and stereotypical. I would have rated this place a mere 2 stars, but they earned a mediocre three star rating because the employees are very helpful and even amidst their busiest periods of the day they were ready to help any customer who approached them with a smile on their face. Also, the prices are cheap- which is something you don't typically find in Alaska. Everything is very expensive here in the northern most state. We came into the store a couple weeks ago and fell in love with one of their bear carved wood sculptures. We wanted to buy it, but we were afraid we didn't have room for it in our suitcase. I was so disappointed and I kept thinking about that bear. The next week, we called the store asking if they would ship. They said yes; I was so surprised they would ship to us in CA! It was a unique item, and a unique shape. They said they would be happy to ship him. I bought the bear right away and he arrived in less than a week. When we realized our airline would not let us have the souvenir Ulu knife we got from the store we called and asked about shipping it from the store. The man on the phone promised he would ship it for free. We drove all the way back to the store. When we arrived the woman at the register said shipping would not be free and accused us of lying. After we located the man who had promised us free shipping as proof the supervisor still refused to ship the knife for free. He made a show of calling his, "higher ups" who also refused. Holy Alaskan tchotchke wonderland! This is basically a giant souvenir shop with all kinds of things emblazoned with the word "Alaska" on them. This means you can find things with pictures of Alaskan wildlife like moose, caribou, bears, fish, eagles, and Sarah Palin on them. Normally, I'm not a souvenir shopper, but I do like sending postcards to my friends. So I've found that not only are souvenir shops usually the only places that carry a wide selection of postcards, they usually do so the cheapest! As of Feb 2009, I was able to pick up 7 postcards for $1, a pretty good deal! I didn't get any of the following, but they are available: Alaskan Ulu blade, various "poo" products (moose poo or things resembling other animal scat), a pooing bear or moose candy dispenser (push the tail and candy falls out of the thing's rear end), t-shirts/hats/sweatshirts/jackets galore, and a lot more. So if you're into that sort of thing, check out Polar Bear Gifts. They have two locations, but this one is the bigger one, and you can get your picture taken with the giant bear they have out front... evidently the most photographed bear in Alaska! PS - One tiny deal which garners this place an extra star. F.W. Woolworth used to be located in this space. Great souvenir shop for everything you could possibly want from t-shirts, to hoodies, to ulus! I picked up a small ulu for $3.99, a pink raincoat for $20 and a long sleeve t-shirt for $10. I am happy overall with all of my purchases. The long sleeve t-shirt selection was kind of weak and I had to go to 4 stores before finding one in my size! Don't forget that you can't bring any ulu's to the Federal building, so leave them at the counter before you head in there! read more

Very first day in Anchorage, we stroll around the Downtown of Anchorage and it was pretty much dead compare to other downtowns haha. So we just decided to check this place since we've heard that this store is great for souvenirs shopping. This store is huge! And their products are ranging from clothing for all sizes, postcards (7 for $1!!), shot glasses, bags, keychain, toys, you name it. They have everything here!! They even have deals where if you spend certain amount, you can get a discount or even a free gift (ulu). They have funny boxers for men, but I even bought a lot of bear keychain that when you squeeze it, its poop comes out haha.
