Wonderful selection, helpful staff, and reasonable prices. I get up there several times a year and always come home with 'treasures'.

It's funny that I am writing my first review of this place after having grown up in Lancaster County and never finding this place until 2021! It is one unbelievably awesome resource for quality wood. I went there as recommended by a friend of mine to get some of my own slabs flattened, and it was like walking into a candy store. During the 53 minutes it took to flatten my 12 slabs, which was amazing in and of itself, I walked around the shop and discovered future projects through their extensive array of domestic and exotic wood products. There is so much to choose from and any discerning buyer will be certainly happy with the offerings. Planning to go here at least once a month to get my river tables flattened as well as pick up a new set of materials each time. Great place to get beautify lumber. They have an amazing selection of live edge slabs and many different species of wood. Staff is very helpful and knowledgeable. They have everything you would need for your next project. They will mill your lumber down as well. They have an on-site sander which I believe goes up to 42". Groff's is amazing! They have an excellent selection of rare, exotic, and high quality hardwoods at extremely reasonable prices. They will plane the boards to thickness upon request and free of charge. They have live edge slabs, boards, and more. This place is perfect for furniture makers or anybody seeking hardwood for a project. I just picked up a 42" piece of beautiful mahogany to make a boat rudder and was astounded with the amazing service and astronomical selection! read more

I absolutely LOVE this place. I drive an hour and a half just to pick out a few beautiful pieces of wood for any project I have. They have so many sizes (thickness, shape, etc), and exotic varieties to choose from, I'm like a kid in a candy store. And everyone there is so helpful. They'll plane anything down for you in a hot second so it matches whatever you need. Rip cuts, you got it. This place is a gem. read more

If you need to buy wood, especially for furniture, this place is amazing. Unlike restaurants where I've been to more than one, I've really only been to one lumber yard. But this place is so much more than a lumber yard....yes, there is a giant pile of chopped up wood out front. But upstairs, it's a gallery of beautiful, exotic wood. Crotch walnut (yes, I know what you're thinking), curly cherry, maple burl, spalted maple. There's a big green open field across the street and it's the first time since my dog has been able to run off leash since we've moved to the east coast. Great people here! Morris gave me the "10 cent tour" but it was worth much more than that. read more

As a hobbyist furniture maker in the San Francisco Bay area, I have opted to order hardwoods from Groff and Groff over the last three years. I could not be more pleased with the quality of the rough lumber, especially the figured maple, cherry, and walnut, they have shipped to me. I usually explain, via email, how I plan to use figured or riftsawn boards in my furniture piece and have been called if the Groff & Groff staffer has a question. I ordered enough cherry lumber for a queen sized bed. I was concerned about getting straight, flat lengths for the long sideboards, and so added to the thickness. When the stock arrived, it was so flat and straight, needing very little jointing and planing that I had too thick of material! I was also concerned about ordering lumber by phone, as I live too far away to make the trip to the showroom. The grain was very consistent throughout the order and was easy to match the project. The help over the phone was very knowledgeable. Shipping was very prompt. In fact, the whole order process was so easy and a pleasurable experience. I have been buying my lumber from Groff and Groff for many years, from dimensional lumber to live-edge slabs. I have always been more than pleased with their products and service, especially their customer service. Their stock lumber is first-rate and they have many reasonably priced slabs. I've bought a number of wide, 2" thick walnut slabs from them--check out their website for some of their inventory--as well as ash, maple and cherry. Last year, looking to fill a special request, I relied on Groff and Groff to find me a bookmatch of 8/4 cherry and within a few days they had a gorgeous pair of figured cherry slabs that, honestly, I wish I had kept for myself instead of using them for a sale. This searching for the right wood took the generous efforts of Angela in the office and John in the yard. Angela handled my emails and John took pictures of boards that might work for me. When they found what I needed, as always, they shipped the product the next day. They are that kind of company--always happy to make their customers happy. I ordered 20 bd ft of mixed 4x4 and 8x4 Holly from these folks. I told them, I could live with some knots, cupping and warping, but I wanted "White" holly, not gray streaked or speckled gray. I told them, I could live with some knots, cupping and warping, but I wanted "White" holly, not gray streaked or speckled gray. Well, it arrived and was severly gray streaked and speckled. I thought it might have just been on the surface, so, when I went to use it 3 months later, I discovered it was gray thoughout. In addition, the edges of the boards had approximately 2-3 inches of edge bark (1-5 inches total). I called Groff & Groff and was told, "You had 30 days to return the wood to us. It said so right on the paper.", and they would not do anything now that the time limit had expired. Do yourself a favor and do not purchase from these folks over the phone or via the net. The quality is lousy and it will save you paying shipping costs in two directions read more
