I was just in the midst of changing insurance when I was scheduling my first appointment. They said they wanted to see me at exactly 9 weeks to do important blood work/ check on things. I asked if we could delay by a few days by which time my new insurance would be in place and I wouldn't have to pay out of pocket. They put pressure on me and told me timing was very important so I caved. They're the experts, right? I later got a bill for over $650. What couldn't wait? A standard blood panel and a tox screen. Red flag #1, I just didn't have the bill yet. My very first appointment I saw one of the doctors and then had a one on one with the head nurse. She asked a lot of questions and I was 100% honest with her. Why wouldn't I be? I told her I was on Wellbutrin and she started lecturing and shaming me so intensely I quit cold turkey. She asked about any history of drug use and I was transparent about using marijuana in the past, before my IVF journey. PAY ATTENTION TO WHAT I DIDN'T KNOW: Evidentially any admission of drug use at any time in your life allows them, without informing you or receiving your consent, to continue drug testing you throughout your pregnancy. Just an extra charge, right? All the visits were pleasant with the doctors. I remember my last appointment before my C-section was primarily me finding out what everyone's favorite foods were so I could cater a thank you lunch and everyone wished me well. I gave birth not long after. Less than 24hrs later a nurse at the hospital told me a nurse from Mission OBGYN sent over a tox screen in which I showed positive for drugs and she wasn't sure if I would be allowed to go home with my kids. I had the worst dissociative panic attack of my life. My husband was desperately trying to get in touch with any of the several practitioners. He was told they would call back, then he was told they were all in a meeting. They kept blowing him off. They never took his calls. They never came. They abandoned me. The same doctors that took at least a half a dozen phone calls from me early in my pregnancy when I was getting fevers from my progesterone suppositories and agonizing over taking so much as Tylenol now refused to see me or pick up the phone. What was I positive for? One test about 10 days before giving birth for opioids. This is the first time I was aware they had been drug testing me. I told the truth again: I had not taken any opioids. Social workers and nurses judgmentally insisted there was only one possible explanation but I had not taken any opioids. I was panicked and scared and confused. It took me almost a year later to realize.... poppy seeds. I was obsessed. Poppy seed bagels, lemon poppy seed muffins, everything bagels and everything bread and eating them all by the ton especially toward the end of my pregnancy. I was never contacted again by any of the doctors or staff. In fact, they sent a doctor I never met from another practice to tell me she was taking over my care. That's the short version. I was a good patient. I was honest. When I was in desperate need of support they disappeared. I experienced one of the most beautiful moments of my life and before I could even take it in I thought my children would be taken from me. It's taken me over 5 years to write this because it's all still so raw. I wouldn't wish this experience on anyone. They stole the most precious moments of my life from me and my babies

At my last routine physical, I mentioned to Dr. Kastl that I had been taking 2 pills instead because it wasn't always convenient to cut them, and the difference in dosage was minimal. She agreed and officially changed my prescription to 2 pills. Six months later, when I requested a refill, I was told I had to schedule a medication check before it would be approved. I scheduled and attended the appointment, which lasted about five minutes and involved no meaningful discussion or changes to my treatment. The following week, I received a $150 bill for that brief visit. I contacted Dr. Kastl multiple times to express my concern and pointed out that, based on my understanding of Michigan law and federal guidelines, the medication I take does not require a mandatory six-month follow-up. Rather than acknowledging my concerns or showing any empathy, my messages were dismissed by simply stating "it's our policy". In this situation, patient care took a back seat to billing. After being a loyal patient for years, I was extremely disappointed by how this was handled. I will not be returning to this practice and would encourage others to carefully consider their options when choosing a primary care provider.

They will mislead you on service costing and are not very transparent, you will spend months fighting a bill you shouldnt have gotten. Its shame because the nurses/doctors are quite nice but the poorly handled billing is not worth the hassle.

The assistants are good, but seem to be over worked because they NEVER follow up on anything they discuss with you. You will have to continuously call back to request for follow up on the things you discussed with them. I went in for an insulin pump on my 1st visit and gave up after a year of seeing no progress. I went to my PCP instead and had a pump within a month. You will also have to wait at least 6 months to get an appointment to speak with these "assistants". Here's the straw that finally broke the camel's back for me. I had a heart attack and while in the hospital one of the Doctors from this fraudulent office stopped into my room each day. They looked at my blood pressure and said, "Your blood pressure looks good, I'll stop back later to discuss your diabetes with you." They never stopped back later to discuss my diabetes but came back the very next day with the exact same story..."your blood pressure looks good, I'll stop back later." When I reviewed my hospital billing, those visits where they stopped in to tell me my blood pressure looked good were billed as "Endocrine Specialist Diabetes Counselling". This is obviously insurance fraud and likely the reason you can never see the actual Doctor at your office visits. The Doctors are too busy scanning the patient logs at the hospitals to see who has diabetes so they can make these 5 minute blood pressure comment visits and charge them as diabetes specialist counselling visitations while they have hired assistants acting as Doctors at their office. Don't just walk, but RUN away from this fraud of a Doctor!

All of this is very frustrating as I've already paid a substantial amount of money to this clinic. Patients should be informed of major insurance changes like this well in advance, so they can make financial adjustments. Ideally, insurance shifts should occur at the start of the calendar year and be communicated before open enrollment. This last minute notification was unprofessional, poorly communicated, and horribly timed.

I recently had a surgery that I was terrified about, and she was great! She always asks about my child, who she delivered, by name. Her assistant, Anka, is great as well. The only complaint is that she is so loved that its sometimes hard to get in, and she runs late. But, rest assured, she will take the same time and care with you as she does with others. It makes it worth it. I have never felt rushed. The front desk staff and other medical assistants are great as well.
