Horrible service! Our heater needed maintenance. Their employee arrived in a large very tall truck. We place large orange cones where we do not want large trucks to drive too close to the house. The employee removed the cones and came within inches of hitting our second story deck.This is the first time any worker removed our safety cones because they were too lazy to walk a few feet and we have hired many during our remodeling. This really is a zero star review. We had a technician come out to replace a part on our furnace. We asked him the price on the part before he replaced it. He went out to his truck and came back in with the box and said the part was $10. It took him one hour to replace the part. He spent another half hour trying to sell us on a heat pump. We received a bill with a total amount of $250 - no break down whatsoever. When we called we learned that we were being charged, 2 hours service time and $58 for the part. We disputed the charges and were told that either we pay the entire bill or we'll be sent to collections. We will be reporting this business to the BBB and will see them in small claims court if they turn us into collections. Use ANY other company - this place is fraudulent! read more

Tim is a wizard. He's made us a couple of pieces for a very custom venting system and took the time to make sure we got the right vents for the job. He even suggested a better, less expensive option which turned out much better than what we originally requested. read more

There are two techs answering the scheduled annual maintenance appointment who arrived on time and prepared for the job - Andrew and David. As a customer what more would you expect than our interests are shared and our heat pump/furnace system is up - running and avoiding the salt air impact [so far] on the outside components. Would NEVER use these guys again. Oh boy, I think there are much better options in Newport than Groth-Gates "GG". When Lou Gates was around, this company was a mainstay of the community years ago, but now, just Lost in Mediocrity at best and -- quality of their employees and professionalism simply gone --- SAD. Up to you but I think it is horrible service and what I see from others, this is the direction they are headed -- from bad to worse! Contacted GG to have them look at my furnace and the exhaust duct, gave me all kinds of info about furnaces and so on, wasn't even what I was asking for -- moving on . They spent two hours looking for the exhaust duct for the furnace vent in the chimney telling me the chimney was blocked therefore they couldn't use the exhaust. I had a more reputable company come out -- they found that the exhaust for the furnace was venting thru the attic. --- I wasn't there, but my tenant was and these two GG employees were putting mirrors down the chimney to see inside. Don't NORMAL people start at the source of a problem? They lost all credibility with me when they didn't even have the professional courtesy or guts to respond to my email request. read more

Will never call them again! Heater quit at 830 on a Thursday night and temperatures were in the 20's called at 730 Friday morning and was told I would be a priority since I had no heat that someone from Lincoln City would be calling me to schedule. I called back at 1130 to find out what the status was since I hadn't heard from anyone, was told "there's 5000 calls ahead of you, we won't be out until next week" so I called a competitor took him about 40 minutes to fix it and he was there at 245. This company was asked to help replace the Re factory panels on our fireplace back in January. You would think that since this is what this company claims to do they would know how to handle it. However it has now been almost 6 months and we still have not been able to find panels that fit. We have custom ordered in panels twice only to find out that the company has not even taken a single measurement to confirm. This has been a very frustrating and long wast of time and I do not recommend hiring this company. read more

This place spent months trying to figure out what was wrong with the heater on our rental. Months. Had to have multiple ppl come and look and we bought at least one replacement part. They finally said that the whole thing needed to be replaced and would cost $4400. Our landlord finally called a different company for comparison. The other guys came over within 3 days and had it fixed in an hour. Clearly these guys had no clue what they were doing. read more

We had Groth-Gates Heating come out to fix our 5 year old furnace. We ended up with 3 service calls and $600 in parts of which only 2 small parts did not work. They charged us for parts that were not broken. I would never use them again nor would I recommend them to anyone. They overcharged for parts and know this because we priced them with another company. read more

Would love to do business locally but I have had a horrible experience with both locations or Groth Gates. The worst customer service in their offices I have ever experienced. In the Lincoln City store I literally could not get waited on. There were 3 employees in the back office that heard me come in and really just ignored me. I finally had to ask for help...the girl in the back said that usually there was someone sitting at the front desk...whatever that means. The Newport store couldn't answer ANY of my questions and gave me an employee's cell number to call. I was hoping to purchase and have a new wood stove installed...maybe they don't want or need that kind of work...if they would have only said that. read more

I bought some parts for a project. The people I dealt with were pleasant and helpful.

Last December we called Groth-Gates to fix our heat pump. They had serviced it the year before and replaced the fan. They kept telling us they were too busy to come out. When they finally agreed to come out we took the day off work and they never showed up. After prodding they finally arrived on a different day, briefly looked it over, and told us nothing was wrong with the heat pump and that was "as good as it was going to run since the business that makes the fan it no longer in business". I froze with my 1 year old for 2 months believing them. We left for a week and came back to a 40 degree house. We're lucky the animals didn't die and the pipes didn't freeze. We huddled in front of the wood stove and called a competitor in Philomath the next day. They were appalled at the shoddy work, found the fan business was still in business, ordered a fan, and fixed the problem in 2 days! This was last winter. Heat pump still going strong. Don't buy local here Lincoln County! read more
