I wish there are more places like this everywhere in London. I don't discriminate against places like Nero or Costa especially when you're in parts of the city where there isn't much around - they offer pretty standard, know what to expect coffee. Grind is a real hidden gem amongst the lower richmond st locals as I didn't know about this place until I had a working meeting here with one of my colleagues that live close to this place. The place isn't big but if you want to curl up with your laptop (free wi-fi), there are also power plugs against the walls. The highlight of this place for me was the goats cheese and red onion chutney sandwich. It's so good that I tried to recreate it at home and it is amazing. read more

I have been living in Putney for 2 years and every day i walk pass it to go to work. I have always wanted to stop by to get a coffee but for whatever reason i never had the time, until today...... OMG what a great atmosphere to have a little break, nice coffee, nice service, nice food, nice people, i can now say this is going to be my new little space to go and read with a nice cup of coffee. I am so happy i went there today! I recomend it to everyone if you like coffee but not just that, but the whole experience. Grind you found a new friend today. read more

Putney has a Grind. I'm thinking that it has nothing to do with Shoreditch's Grind, partly because Shoreditch wouldn't be seen dead full of mummies with pushchairs and a myriad of Sebastians. Still... this is Putney's first stab at fancy fucking coffee and ciabatta-based sandwiches. Coffee and sandwiches that takes 5 minutes wait before you can have them. Great tasting but expensive. How do you reconcile paying well over 2 quid for a smallish cup of coffee? Is it because they have a... "La Marzocco Strada MP with 3M Reverse Osmosis Water Filtration" ?? ooooooooOOOO! Or is it the "Anfim Super Caimano Grinder with Digital Timer" Here that gang, a DIGITAL timer! Ever since pointy shoes went out of style, I've had a real tough time getting a decent cup of coffee in London. Grind has come to my rescue. See, I'm a skinny, angular, Dickensian-looking chap, so pointy shoes really work for me. When they were in a few years back, I greedily filled my closet with them. Then when i fancied a coffee, I'd pull on a pair and trot off down to one of the achingly hip establishments you have to visit to get proper coffee in this town. I'd lounge about with all the other pointily-shod customers and staff, and we'd silently congratulate each other on our exquisite footmanship. No drama. But then - what, two years ago? - I walked into my local to find it full of round-toed brogues, Doc Martens and judgement. No more able to carry off round toes than Tom Cruise can carry off flats, I was doomed to wander the streets of London looking for a place that would accept the likes of me. Somewhere that made a competent flat white without being too cool for school. Grind is that place. It's in staid, meat-and-three-veg Putney. It's patronised by yummy mummies and their outsize bugaboos. Some of the staff aren't even antipodean (at least I think they aren't - they don't have neck-tattoos or fixies, which is how I nrmally tell). It is London's first truly uncool decent coffee shop. And that's what's great about it. Not just because it means I can wear my pointy shoes without attracting sneers, but because of what it means: proper coffee is going mainstream. Soon, you'll be able to get it anywhere. Burnt milk, over-extracted espresso and bucket-sized cups will all be bad memories, like Love Thy Neighbour, myspace and Oasis. Also, a flat white is £2 (it's £2.50 in Soho.) Can't argue with that. read more

Disappointing. New name, new menu, new coffee. The change from "Grind" to "Ground" is subtle from the outside but is so clear once you get to ordering and eating. Coffee much more bitter, without previous kiwi style (machiatos more like a latte). The brunch menu is standard London fare: eggs, avocado etc, without the previous signature dishes: pancakes with berries, mascapone and bacon, or the kiwi style bacon and egg pie. The bacon and sausage bap was supposed to come with avovado but it came with hollandaise instead. Wait staff seem confused by new menu, clearly kitchen staff as well. What a shame, there went one of the best coffee places in the South West. read more

Grind is a small-fronted coffee shop with 2 rooms in the back, including a conservatory, perfect for a sunny brunch when they open the roof! Coffees are good, as expected. Food was delicious, bacon flavourful, scrambled eggs in abundance, avocado was a touch under-ripe in places though and the sourdough wasn't sourdough. Or just a bad version. They also have savoury scones which I was treated to by a kind friend on our way out and this was excellent; tangy goat's cheese and spinach, definitely home-made. Would be lovely warm with a bit of butter! Service is ropey but their coffee, food quality and portion sizes make up for this. Looking forward to trying their lunch menu. read more

Grind Coffee Bar in Putney is the perfect place for a relaxed lunch on a busy day. It is a really nice little place that offers decent coffee and a range of sweet and savoury treats. One of the things I liked most at Grind Coffee Bar were the big windows. This makes this place a very light coffee shop, quite good if you want to read something and enjoy a great coffee. My coffee tasted really good, my savoury scone was delicious and the strawberry and something muffin was one of the best muffins I ever had. Fair enough, it is probably always easy to win me over with strawberries... Altogether, since I moved offices to Putney, I enjoyed my lunch break never more than at Grind Coffee Bar. If you work or live in the area and like a good coffee, Grind Coffee Bar is definitely a place you should check out! read more

Popped in for takeaway coffee's, a 6oz flat white and a cappuccino. Outwardly this place screams good coffee, but I was sorely disappointed. Barista skills in this joint are sadly lacking, milk scalded, what I got was two white coffee's. no creamy slick in top of the flat white and no light creamy fluff on the Capa. The coffees flavour was underwhelming and a tiny bit burnt....once past the scalded milk. I think they need to get the kiwis back, a nation that knows how to make coffee. read more

I almost don't want to review this place, so that no one else finds out about it. But the staff deserve to get rich and famous, so.. Excellent food, friendly and warm service, and the cherry on top - great space, all brick wall and well designed modern extension. A fantastic sunday experience. read more

Discovered this great little place today and I'm a huge fan. Excellent quality coffee and food and this place has an amazing buzz to it - quiet but fairly busy making a great setting for groups and lone coffee lovers alike. I had an amazing burger which came with a tonne of options - sweet potato chips, avocado, bacon, cheese- and the coffee is brilliant too. Best lunch I've experienced so far in the Putney area. read more

Grind used to be a great place to go to get a real coffee made by a barista who knew and cared about what they were doing. Then Grind opened their new cafe at Westfield Stratford City and it went south. Now the majority of the staff are rude, couldn't give a shit about what the customers think or ask for and serve cold coffee and stale food. In the space of a few weeks a cafe that we looked forward to going to every day has become a place to avoid. Pretty bad when regular Grind customers now go to Coffee Nation in the local service station. read more

I must admit to having an absolute aversion to the average High Street coffee shop. They are generally a bland and banal manifestation of corporate America and I ain't just talking about the coffee! Well you can imagine my surprise as I was walking along the Lower Richmond Road in Putney, that well known bastion of good old fashioned middle England when I came across a veritable oasis in the form of Grind. It looks great from the outside and quietly beckons you in. I almost dragged my poor wife off her feet as I clamoured to get through the front door. It didn't disappoint. From the waft of the marvellously unctuous coffee to the row upon row of the delightful little parade of pastries to the understated élan of the decor, everything was a picture of coffee shop heaven. I had two cups of flat white and the blueberry pancakes with bacon. My wife had the eggs Benedict. You can always tell the mark of a good establishment by how they make the classics and eggs bene is certainly that. We didn't talk for at least half an hour as we tucked in to our respective feasts. We normally try a forkful of each other's meals but not this time. When I looked up to enquire how her food was I quickly saw that she was polishing off the last forkful. Pig. I'm sure she sped up just to avoid sharing some of it. I talk in jest off course. Our food was served to us by a very personable young chap who goes by the name of Dan. Nothing was too much trouble for Dan. You'd have thought we were family such was his devotion to our table. My wife thought he was lovely too. Needless to say we left young Dan a hefty tip and will return there again in the not too distant future. What a find. Please go. You won't regret it. read more
