This pub is so micro it's hard to spot but it's basically between Bangkok Orchid and Cocka Doodle Moo (two of Hazel Grove's best eateries), opposite Al Fresco.
When we walked in there was a sudden silence and turning of heads sort of like a wild west saloon but it turned out that was because the owner was playing cards so needed to get up to serve us.
She was super friendly, explaining the history of the building as a butcher's (they sell their pork pies here now) and hilariously struggling with a corkscrew (this is very much an alehouse, although they had a lovely fancy gin and 3 red wines on offer). Out of the 5 cask ales on offer (this is basically the only freehouse around), my bf tried a Liverpool Organic ale and Poynton Darkside porter. Check their fb for updates of what's on. Also, it's 10% off for CAMRA members on Monday - Thursday. For us, 2 pints, a g&t and a 175ml red wine came to about £14.
It's very intimate, so don't go here if you don't want others listening to/commenting on your conversation but I am incredibly nosey and interfering anyway so didn't find it a problem. The chairs are a bit hard and upright for my tastes, but there is softer seating along the wall. Softer lighting would improve the general atmosphere, but I like that it's so simple.
Will certainly pop back for a nightcap next time am in Hazel Grove for dinner. read more
